Rock Lake Resort

I live in Wisconsin and during the coldest month of January, I wanted a quiet “get-away” vacation in the sunshine with affordable rates. Searching online I discovered the Rock Lake Resort in Ft. Meyers, FL. They had small, private cabins to rent surrounding a spring-fed pond with palm trees, near the center of Ft. Meyers city center. Beaches, restaurants and entertainments were all close by. The cabins had a private patio over-looking the pond, small kitchenette and wooded walk trails along a stream in back. It turned out to be one of my best, relaxing vacations traveling solo.

Each building is a room with a balcony view right on the water. It is "oooh, to die for beautiful". Once there, I didn't want to leave, not even to go into town. And I certainly didn't want to go home --- ever.

Was going to drive to south Florida to visit my elderly mother but we caught Covid. VERY rude staff, refused to cancel a reservation I made even though I called to make them aware 2 days before the actual reservation, they also rudely told me I will not be receiving a refund. The customer service here is atrocious and I would not recommend this place to ANYONE! UPDATE: I received a return call from the manager, and her attitude was absolutely disgusting. She was rude, pretentious, and downright unbearable. Hopefully the owner's take note of this!

A sudden emergency demanded that I seek out accommodations at the last minute, on a Saturday, during the busy season. With most typical options for lodging of this nature being either fully occupied or priced outside of a reasonable range, I stumbled upon the Rock Lake Resort, used my credit card of choice to hold my third-party reservation, and then (as I had done many times in the past) left the card with an individual who may have needed it in my absence, relying on the Capital One app functionality of showing the credit card number in full, as well as the card's integration with my Apple Pay, as tantamount to physical possession of the card. The Front Desk staff disagreed, and when I demonstrated the Capital One app, the woman scoffed/laughed, as though I had developed the program myself in order to execute this massive ruse. In any case, I acquiesced to their demands that I use a different card (compliance which resulted in a new avenue of nonsensical questioning, "did you just pay it?" -- as though crcard balance is the only factor at play). Overwhelmingly pleased with herself -- a new demand was created on the spot, seeing as how I am a local resident (this was the reasoning that she came up with after several minutes of referring to the circumstance as "our situation"), I was required to place a $200 security deposit, seeing as how I am likely to 'trash the room'. Amazing how quickly I shifted from having developed the Capital One smartphone application to being an unpredictable vagrant. At this point, amazed by the unwavering confidence with which incorrect assumptions were being made, I agreed to providing this deposit -- which was then immediately decided to be required in cash. I have some degree of familiarity with multiple facets of hospitality, and I cannot think of a single circumstance where a property would prefer a limited cash deposit as opposed to placing an authorizstion on a credit card (subject to increase). It seems that the intent of the staff was to prevent me from staying there -- which would have been much simpler expressed as a single statement refusing service, rather than an absurd bit of sadistic theater. I have to appreciate them for this, however, as I was able to find an alternate accomodation at the Tween Waters Resort, which accepted my form of payment (taking only $25 in incidentals), made no strange accusations, and provided a much better selection of amenities (kayaks, bicycles). Stay away.

I booked a King gate den view with Heather but when I arrived I got a queen cement view. I was told “someone changed my room”, but you really only deal with Heather so I’m guessing she changed it or that was what I had all along. She made me feel like I was getting a deal because now the rooms were much higher. It’s in a shady part of town and pictures are VERY deceiving. Avoid at all cost.

Rock Lake Resort WILL charge your credit card for MORE than you have agreed and approved. NO amenities, including hot water and towels. The room was dirty with leftover trash and laundry from the previous customers. The a/c unit is extremely loud and the shower made an awful noise as long as the water was running. I regret finishing my stary at Rock Lake.

Rock Lake Resort is the quaintest and coziest place I've been to in Fort Myers! The front desk staff and housekeeping staff were always so helpful and nice. Rose went above and beyond to make our family's trip amazing. Also, Vanessa, Araceli, Maryory and Ivan, the housekeeping and maintenance were the best Ive ever seen! My son loved them! I would recommend Rock Lake to anyone who wants a nice little woodsy escape right near the city!

The room was very clean but small and somewhat noisy from the nearby road. There seem to be lovely cabins and places for walks. it's close to town where there are many fine restaurants. You can easily walk to town or take the free trolley.

Put down a $500+ deposit. Cancelled almost immediately as I found something else. Deposit was never credited back to credit card - even though reservation was made in October for a February stay!!!! Will NEVER book here again!
