Forio d'Ischia
This hotel is all about the view. Perched atop a cliff with a good clear view of the Med whilst sat on the terrace and the best bit is due to location (yes a little out of the way, 25-30 euro's in a taxi from Forio or St Angelo, verbal prices quoted and paid as meter price one day was 42 euros) the peace and quiet is amazing. There are other properties up on the next hill and occasional dogs barking, but most of the time it's very quiet. Walking to this property from Panza bus stop is not what we tried (the road is twisty and at times no more than a track but very hilly) especially in the current temperatures. Vito or Johnny are more than willing to drop you off to Panza, Poseidon or the main bus stop at various times throughout the day and also collect from there up to a certain time, very helpful and very very appreciated. The staff are very helpful and I can't give them enough credit for all they do to help you enjoy the stay. The hotel is starting to appear dated in some areas but nothing we found affected our stay. I found the bed a little firm, however all hotels seem to have differing ideas on what type of mattress used so no biggy there. There was no fridge in our room which was missed and I would hope they install them as an upgrade especially with the heat they seem to be getting more regularly, really missed being able to have a cold refreshing drink in the middle of the night. The breakfasts are a simple affair and I enjoyed the pastries and coffee. At the moment the greenery has grown to block the view from the breakfast area, which is a shame as it is a good selling point when eating breakfast to look out to a lovely blue sea. The pool although not very large is certainly adequate to cool off in should you have a lazy day at the hotel. However, having done this for two days we realised that it can be a very long day if you have not already stocked up with some food or drink to keep you going throughout the day. This hotel at time of our stay only did breakfasts and a paid aperitif around 18:30hrs if you asked on the terrace. We had a few of those and they were very well priced (beer, prosecco, crisps, dough twists olives and cut meats and cheese). Vito conjured up a bottle of wine, beers or prosecco whenever asked, much appreciated on a hot day. The hotel can arrange deliveries of meals from takeaway places to. We had a pizza delivery one night and it was very good. I was jealous of the wifes fritatina (apologies if spelt wrong), looked very good and must have tasted good as she didn't share. Big question is did it live up to expectations? I would have to say yes it did. Vito, Johnny and the rest of the staff are very customer friendly and have a lot of island knowledge to help you decide where to go or where to eat. We had some cracking meals based on their recommendations and the Portebello in Ischia Porto is also owned by the hotel owner and gives a good discount, helped by serving very nice food with a good marina view. Forio d'Ischia
Have just returned from a wonderful stay at this lovely hotel. Simply furnished and spotlessly clean, the rooms have everything you need including a little fridge and a hairdryer. The family who run it are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is good with real espresso coffee and delicious pastries. There is a supermarket and several first class restaurants nearby and the gorgeous San Francesco beach is just a few steps away. Thank you Giancarlo, Giacomo and the rest of the family team for making our stay so memorable.

I write this review on behalf of a large group of sports who stayed at this hotel in the occasion of the judo Memorial dedicated to Adriana Serpico. All the staff are very gentle and 100% dedicated to satisfying the needs of the clients, clean rooms (including bed and bathroom), toiletries with shower box, fridge and climate in the room. Breakfast from hours 8.00 to 10.00 consists of cornets, cakes made at home, yoghurt, marmelade, afflicted, fruit juices and coffee maker served at the moment...all of good quality. The hotel has a large and well-kept pool with beds and paraplus available to guests. The hotel has a gasket with tables in the outer space. The market is provided with all presents in front of the hotel is stopped bus at 50 mt. All three stars deserve... Thanks special to Mrs. Rosa who welcomed us, making us feel like at home, making us available all the comforts of the hotel to make our kids well.

We have just stayed here for 3 nights as a relaxing pit stop while travelling around the Amalfi coast and couldn’t recommend it more for that. The staff are truly brilliant, I unfortunately can’t remember her name but there was one younger lady with long dark hair who was incredibly helpful. The pool is fed by thermal spring, which makes it very warm! There is chilled music by the pool- the perfect place to relax. The hotel had clearly been newly renovated and decor felt fresh. Breakfast was wonderful, lots of variety constantly being topped up by very attentive staff. A quiet town with great restaurants is in easy walking distance & there is a bus stop outside to travel to other areas of the island. The hotel also offer a shuttle service to the beach which is again, fantastic!! Beds very very comfortable, aircon powerful, rooms immaculate and patio area a lovely place to relax. We couldn’t fault this hotel!

Forio d'Ischia
This is my first time here, my wife's second. She has been trying to get me here for the past two years. This time we came in a group of two couples and stayed in the exquisite Villa Giusy extension, over the hotel. Highly recommended. Il Sorriso is just super-excellent in every category. I am just sorry I didn't come years ago ! We will certainly be back at least a couple of times a year, every year, from now on. Summary; Wonderful location, amazing spa services and highest standards throughout. Amazing and super-close sea views, wonderful friendly staff, very professional but with that special warmth and dignity that comes with being an island people. As an Irishman, I appreciate and recognise these special traits. It is not just Luca and Simeone in the navettes, it is all the wonderful people from dining room to reception to pool staff who go the extra mile to check that all is well with you. We are spolied now and will expect this everywhere we go, but, in vain. There is unfortunately only one Sorriso Thermae Resort & Spa and you have to come to Ischia to find it. We have all the spa services you could want, in addition, we are right beside the justifiably famous Poiseidon Thermal Park and gardens served by the hotel navette service that also takes clients to the Spiaggia di Citara and various touristic destinations, if you really, really need to leave this oasis of comfort, pleasure and, above all, total relax. Bring some books. Your feet with sprout roots and you will develop an intense desire to just stay put and be cosseted in this paradise by these very special people. I admit it, I am still here and I am begining to wonder just how I can avoid going home.......... John

We stayed here as part of a package deal with Voyage Privé so the hotel was allocated by them a few days before our arrival. We received a warm welcome and our cases were carried to our room for us. Reception staff friendly and helpful. Room was an adequate size with large terrace. Bathroom had shower only, with a shower curtain not screen, cheap fittings, thin towels, no robes or slippers like you’d expect in a 4 star (in the UK at least.) Cleaned daily to a good standard. If you struggle with walking then this hotel is probably not for you as there lots of little steps all over the hotel. ( in fact you’d do well to avoid the whole island really) We stayed on a half board basis and had our meals in the Cava restaurant so can’t comment on the other restaurant. Breakfast was typical self-service continental fare but with only 1 coffee machine there was often a long queue. Dinner was self-service appetisers followed by a starter-main-dessert, choice of 3 or 4 dishes for each. Not the greatest food, but it’s mass catering so it would never be a la carte standard. You are allocated a table on your first day and you have to keep to that table for your stay. Want to eat your breakfast at a window table overlooking the sea in the almost empty restaurant? You’ll be moved back to your allocated table by the staff. Waiting staff are not very friendly, although I observed more friendliness to the Italian guests. Bar staff are friendly though. Swimming pools are all very warm. The rule is to wear a swimming cap although I saw lots of people in shower caps, baseball caps etc in the pool so I’m not sure this is enforced. Sunbeds round the pool seemed plentiful. The beach is a 10 minute walk down the hill (15 mins back up though as it’s steep!). The hotel runs a free shuttle bus to and from the beach. On the beach there are private and public areas and it’s a coarse sand beach, nice and clean. To get around the island the no2 bus goes to Ischia port which has the bus station and therefore onward buses to other destinations. You can buy bus tickets at the mini mart by the beach (must pay in cash for bus tickets), the hotel doesn’t sell them. The no 2 terminus is just a little way past the mini mart. If you want to walk into Forio the most pleasant/safest route we found was out of the hotel main entrance, turn right and follow the road. Just after the Albatross hotel turn right onto a narrow tarmacked road and follow this all the way, past the yellow basilica and it eventually drops down into the town where all the shops are. It takes about 30 minutes. Nearest ATMs are in Forio. If you fancy pizza I can recommend Jamm Ja, towards Forio and a little way past the Albatross on the main road, about a 15 min walk.
