Rob Roy Guest House

My first experience in a bed and breakfast/guest house. Was on a solo trip and found this place same-day just on Google maps so wasn’t sure what to expect but was so lovely and cosy ! Owners cooked a nice classic English breakfast in the morning included in the price and were very accommodating. Highly recommend for a simple but sweet getaway.

We stayed one night in early May. The location is, likely, not the best looking part of town, with very limited choices of good restaurants. (If you have a car, both negatives may not be an issue.) We had a room with two twin beds. The room was small; with the luggage on the floor, it was a bit cramped. The room was clean, with the sink inside, instant coffee and a kettle in the room. The bathroom was also small, with a decent hot shower, though it took a little time to get the hot waster going. The main problem for us is the paper thin walls in the room. There was a guest, staying in an upstairs room, above us, who kept talking/listening to recordings till late at night, past midnight, and you can hear everything. (I can describe with details the project he was working on.) We sent the owner an email to report the issue, but, it was late, around 11:0 pm; in the morning, she said she didn't see the message until the morning. As an aside to this issue: the hotel was almost empty (we saw at least three empty, with the door open, rooms in our floor. I'm still surprised the owner decided to put one guest above the other. Strange, she should know about the thinness of the room walls. Breakfast was OK, with traditional English breakfast, but limited choices of cereals. The owner seemed friendly and willing to accommodate guests . Unfortunately, our overall experience was not good.

Just returned from a 2 night stay with my wife, we had a really warm welcome from Sarah which I think is a lovely touch Sarah and Jim showed us great hospitality and I believe Genuine people, we stayed in room # 1 which was lovely and access to the garden a great touch, the breakfast was of a good quality and our bed was very comfortable we went to say a big thank you to you guys, Cliff and Nicky.

After driving for nearly 20 hours and desperately needing a bed to rest, I rang the doorbell of the hotel. The hostess was very unfriendly and rude, and did not allow me to even enter the hotel. She slammed the door in my face. I was very tired and didn't look good, but I didn't deserve this treatment.

I stay at the Rob Roy regularly for work - such a clean and friendly place that is really close to the Eurotunnel site. Sarah and Jim are very welcoming and will do anything they can to help. EV charging on site is a bonus and good food and a handy Tesco just outside. Thanks again and I look forward to seeing you next time!
