Villa Belvedere

Florence Historic Center Florence|1.92km from Castello di Marignolle
We had an excellent stay at the Villa Belvedere. The staff were friendly, welcoming and very helpful. I would particularly like to thank Babu Singh who seemed to be there at all times. Always smiling, always helpful and extremely polite. All the staff were excellent. The room was spacious with an outstanding view over the terrace, the pool and Florence in the distance. We could even see the dome of the Duomo. Everywhere was very clean and the room was serviced well every day. On small piece of advice rather than criticism is dining. The hotel breakfast is excellent although no English style breakfast is available you can have bacon and eggs. The selection of a more continental style breakfast is excellent. The hotel staff are most apologetic and insist that they do not run a restaurant but provide snacks. The menu however is comparable with many restaurants and the food excellent. It is sufficient for a light evening meal, is inexpensive and with a good selection of starters, mains and deserts available plus of course some excellent wines. We didn't take advantage of the snacks on offer during the day so I cannot comment. There is always a however....There are a few good restaurants within a mile. The 'Trattoria da Ruggero' is excellent. I would recommend booking through the hotel reception. It is also the nearest. The walk back from all of them except 'In Fabbrica' is up a very steep hill. We didn't go to the Fabbrica as it is not open every day so best check. There is a slight shortcut down some steep, awkward and unlit steps with no handrail. We climbed it several time except when it was very wet. A taxi back costs over 10 Euro. So unless you have a car or find walking difficult it could be expensive. It is also advisable to book as the restaurants get full seemingly every day. The Pizzeria Antica Porta near the roundabout at the bottom of the hill will do their utmost to fit you in, is very friendly, good value and the food is excellent. The bar is small but stocks pretty much any drink you are likely to want and is available most of the day. I would definitely stay there again but with prior knowledge of the dining limitations would plan the day differently. We ate a larger meal at lunchtime and in the hotel restaurant in the evening. Except one day when I think the chef was unexpectedly off. I didn't check with reception as instructed and was disappointed. Not the fault of the hotel staff.

Fattoria Il Milione Agriturismo

Gavinana - Galluzzo Florence|1.98km from Castello di Marignolle
My daughter, son-in-law, and I were traveling from Switzerland to Italy via the train system. We had 2 rooms reserved for Monday and Tuesday and were then moving on to Rome. My daughter picked this hotel because we had been staying in the city and we were looking for something a little different. We missed our connection in Milan, due to mechanical problems on our initial train. Once we arrived in Florence, we waited over 1/2 hour for a taxi, at the train station, for our roughly 20 minute ride out of the city and to the hotel. Taxi dropped us off at the reception area, which was dark, and ended up having to call to have someone check us in. The man who came was very nice and helpful and felt bad that we hadn't eaten and that the on-site restaurant was closed on Monday. Also, the pool we were really looking forward to, closed at dark. He drove us to our rooms, which would have been 1/2 mile walk, and ordered pizza's for us. We did not get the rooms we had booked, and instead were each ”upgraded to a villa”. There was plenty of room, that's for sure! They were very gothic and quit creepy in the dark. My room key was a skelton key that had to be played with to work and the lighting inside and out was very poor. I found my mattress to be quite hard and uncomforable. I'll admit the villa was better in the daylight. The man that was at the reception house in the morning was abrupt and not terribly friendly, but did obtain a taxi for our trip back into Florence. On the plus side, the view from our villa was fantastic. I got up early to catch the sun rising over Florence. For someone looking for housing with lots of room, character and relaxation, this is your place. Best suited from someone who wants to prepare their own meals and has transportation, as it's a long dangerous (winding road) walk into town for anything you need, or an expensive taxi ride to and from.

Consigliato. Ci ritorneremo. Un grazie alla signora Shaila.

Very distinctive, you can appreciate the authentic Tuscan countryside. And it is very famous in the local area, and taxi drivers know it. It is a pleasant and rustic country manor. The room is large and comfortable. The bed is large. It is to take a taxi to the city, but the taxi is not difficult to fight.

We stayed at Bellosguardo for the three nights leading up to our wedding, and it was a refreshing change after being in the heart of the city. This property is stunning, with an incredible pool that even offers poolside service. While it is rustic and lacks high-end amenities, we were aware of this beforehand and it didn’t bother us at all. We booked a total of five rooms here for our family, and I visited each one—they were all exceptional. We stayed in Room 11, which was my favorite. It had a walk-in shower, gorgeous views, and was beautifully decorated. The hotel staff were incredibly accommodating, especially on our wedding day when our photographers and hair and makeup team arrived. They provided us with everything we needed and were so kind and helpful throughout our stay. Though it’s a bit of a walk to get into town (15-20 minutes), we discovered a lovely walking trail that dropped us off near the Boboli Gardens. We do recommend taking a taxi back after dark, as the trail is quite steep. Overall, this property is amazing and holds a special place in our hearts, especially since we did our first look here before the wedding. We highly recommend Bellosguardo for its gorgeous views and as a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. We will be back!

I booked a single room. It was larger than expected and I was very satisfied. The staff are very warm and friendly and happy to help you solve your problems. The location is a bit remote, and you basically need to take a car to get out. It takes about 25 minutes to reach the central square.
