The hotel boasts a delicious vegan breakfast, friendly staff, modern Danish furnishings, and stunning fjord views. However, the location in a small village might not suit everyone.

From the moment I arrived I felt the stress beginning to melt away. The unbelievably awe-inspiring nature coupled with the peace and quiet were a balm for the soul. I highly recommend the Fjærland Fjordstove hotel to anyone who loves relaxing on a veranda amid the majesty of the fjords.

Location stunning and rich history of the area provided at hotel, which I loved!. While I recognize that this is a historic home, there are simple upgrades that should be done for basic comfort of guests. The room we stayed in had stained beds (base of fabric bed) and pulls/tears on "mattress" (mattress topper by US standards) which was by far the most uncomfortable one we slept on in our 16 day trip through Norway, walls paper thin literally heard the man in the next room snoring all night and people throughout the hotel walking about, lastly the bathroom sink was actually in the shower...odd and awkward to shower in. We stayed in two other historic properties on our trip and none of these challenges were present. For the high price of this hotel, some further considerations should be made.

Actually this is a 2 Star hotel with 4 Star prices. The photos on the web site are deceptive. You won't get the food shown in the photos in the restaurant. They must have been taken somewhere else. For the menu, 820 Krone, per person, was very expensive for dinner. For my starter I got 1 & half Scallop. Someone else must have got the other half. The dessert was a few strawberries and creme. Our second night we went to the Thon Partner Hotel Jolster 25 min drive and had dinner for 490 Krone per person. It was a buffet and surprising good. Our room, 3150 Krone, was smaller then my laundry room at home. My wife had to climb over me to get out of bed. The exterior of the hotel is a little run down. It needs some repair and paint. Two nights was enough. If you want a hotel on the Fjord, a short distance away we found hotel Skjolden. The rooms, at 2500 Krone, were very nice and modern. The restaurant was "excellent" with a different menu every night for 920 Krone per person. Great bread at dinner. The best dinners we had in Norway. This was our second trip to Norway in three years.

This little hotel is in one of the most beautiful places we visited in Norway: a small, "sleepy' village (that is famed for all the books they have in various stores).... in the middle of a very amazing fjord.... really nice 'farm to table' food... great for biking and hiking... We stayed on one of the 'basement rooms' that was great and less than great in the following ways: It is right on the water and one looks out to an amazingly beautiful fjord. These 'basement' rooms are very small and basic... Bigger rooms are 'above'...

The location is amazing. The lounge areas are wonderful. The room was not well appointed. Small is fine though awkward layout. Too many accent pillows and chairs for such a small space. Nowhere to place toiletries or other personal items making it uncomfortable.

Fjærland Fjordstove Hotel is a small (only 14 rooms) and charming hotel directly on the fjord in breath-taking surroundings! Our room (family room no 230) was decent sized and with beautiful fjord view (see my attached photos). At the end of the day, the lounge is a lovely relaxing area - outdoors or indoors. The terrace is beautiful and a great place to relax with a glass of wine... I really fell in love with it. The ambience of the “restaurant” is really nice. I thought the dinner was adequate but expensive and not as amazing as other guests have indicated. But the breakfast was very good. The staff is engaging and very helpful. The best part of our stay was the view from the rooms and from the hotel lounge. It is hard to describe the breath-taking surroundings that lies in front of you! Regards Svein-Magne Tunli from Bergen, Norway.

A very beautiful, old authentic Norwegian hotel in an idyllic place. A very special gem, perfect for wild swimming. The setting is stunning, right on the fjord surrounded by mountains, quiet, peaceful and restful. The staff were wonderful- friendly helpful and chatty. Food was fantastic, a set menu which was superb, and served a beautiful dining room looking over the Fjord. The sitting areas were really comfortable and cosy, with books, games, throws on the sofas and leather chairs with panoramic views of the Fjord and mountains. Local wine, beer and cider is served in the lovely sitting room over looking the water, or you can sit outside on the deck. Our bedroom was very cosy, we had two greats night sleep, and we loved that there were no TVs in the room or downstairs. The floating sauna was an amazing experience, as was dipping in and out of the icy fjord from the sauna deck. The manager Inna let us check out late so that we could enjoy a final morning at the sauna without rushing, and have a final chilly swim, which was most appreciated! We had a wonderful stay, feel re-charged and lucky to have found such a unique hotel.

We truly enjoyed our stay at the hotel, which is delightfully old and creaky, with much atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff, and a beautiful location right on the fjord. Our room was a bit of a surprise -- we reserved "one small room double mountain view, twin beds" -- it was indeed tiny! We couldn't sit up in bed without bumping our heads in the sloped ceiling. The "mountain view" was a tiny window in an alcove, and the bathroom was a combined shower/toilet area. I'm not complaining; we did want the least expensive room and I think we got it! The other rooms have different "personalities" and look funky and comfortable (which ours was) -- and larger. Buffet breakfast each morning in the airy dining room was excellent, as was the set course, expensive dinner we had one night. We had beers on the deck overlooking the fjord each night, which was great. The hotel is at the end of the very sweet town -- not much there but books, and the view and hiking options, which is why we stayed there. Would definitely recommend staying there! Be advised that the interior steps are narrow and steep, and the town closes down at the end of tourist season, so finding food outside of the hotel is a bit of a challenge.
