AI Summary
The hotel boasts a delicious vegan breakfast, friendly staff, modern Danish furnishings, and stunning fjord views. However, the location in a small village might not suit everyone.

We had a wonderful three nights at this delightful hotel which has possibly the most beautiful setting of anywhere we’ve ever stayed, right on the side of the stunning Fjærland fjord. The staff were all so friendly and helpful, full of tips about things to do locally. Food was excellent, making great use of local ingredients as part of the hotel’s deep commitment to sustainability and the local community. Dinner is a set menu only (delicious!), mainly meat and fish but inventive veggie alternatives provided for my daughter (NB that you do need to let them know in advance). Highly recommended - we really hope to return one day.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2-night stay at the Fjaerland Fjordstove Hotel. Though the room was small (it was like a Tetris game to figure out where to put our luggage!), it had a terrific view of the fjord. We very much enjoyed the pre-dinner talk by Inna (sitting through it the second night, when she told slightly different stories -- thank you!) The dinner was good (though beef two nights in a row was disappointing -- we were hoping for fish at least one of the nights.) Breakfast was wonderful -- especially the chance to make your own Norwegian waffles!

Undoubtedly a charming little hotel, and the staff was lovely. But as someone else said, this is a two star with 4 star prices and attitude. The food was appallingly bad; the tiny tiny salmon starter had clearly been prepared hours before as evidenced by the slight crust that forms on prepared food, for main, overcooked duck in a nuclear coloured, sickly sweet orange sauce accompanied by half a reheated bland baked potato, (it’s really hard to cook a potato badly) all pre prepared with no love, just assembled and reheated. A set menu with no other options; I asked if I might have a salad, the response was akin to what Oliver Twist got when he asked for “more”. The rooms are beyond tiny, with no proper curtains to block out the nighttime light of Scandinavian summers. They give you earplugs because I suppose they know one can hear all the guests in the other rooms. The fjord it sits on is easily the dirtiest I’ve seen through our travels of this spectacular country. They were kind enough to give us a discount on the dreadful meal but we’d rather have had a decent meal and happily paid for it. I think I’ve had better meals on planes😔 (the breakfast was good, I’ll concede). It feels like the hosts think it’s a privilege for guests to stay with them. Newsflash: that’s not how hospitality works. There are plenty of charming hotels throughout the world who actually make an effort for their guests. Here it just feels like they’re milking guests for every penny they can get out of them. If only we’d known. The high ratings on TA in my opinion are utterly misleading. Fortunately we only spent o e night.

A world charm on a beautiful lake setting. Didn't arrive in time for dinner but was able to enjoy a few hours on the indoor porch reading and talking with others. The rooms are very little and sink in room with shower and WC in same space. But location and atmosphere makes for a great night stay in a time gone past. Dock outside for sitting outside weather permitting.

From the moment I arrived I felt the stress beginning to melt away. The unbelievably awe-inspiring nature coupled with the peace and quiet were a balm for the soul. I highly recommend the Fjærland Fjordstove hotel to anyone who loves relaxing on a veranda amid the majesty of the fjords.

Location stunning and rich history of the area provided at hotel, which I loved!. While I recognize that this is a historic home, there are simple upgrades that should be done for basic comfort of guests. The room we stayed in had stained beds (base of fabric bed) and pulls/tears on "mattress" (mattress topper by US standards) which was by far the most uncomfortable one we slept on in our 16 day trip through Norway, walls paper thin literally heard the man in the next room snoring all night and people throughout the hotel walking about, lastly the bathroom sink was actually in the shower...odd and awkward to shower in. We stayed in two other historic properties on our trip and none of these challenges were present. For the high price of this hotel, some further considerations should be made.

Actually this is a 2 Star hotel with 4 Star prices. The photos on the web site are deceptive. You won't get the food shown in the photos in the restaurant. They must have been taken somewhere else. For the menu, 820 Krone, per person, was very expensive for dinner. For my starter I got 1 & half Scallop. Someone else must have got the other half. The dessert was a few strawberries and creme. Our second night we went to the Thon Partner Hotel Jolster 25 min drive and had dinner for 490 Krone per person. It was a buffet and surprising good. Our room, 3150 Krone, was smaller then my laundry room at home. My wife had to climb over me to get out of bed. The exterior of the hotel is a little run down. It needs some repair and paint. Two nights was enough. If you want a hotel on the Fjord, a short distance away we found hotel Skjolden. The rooms, at 2500 Krone, were very nice and modern. The restaurant was "excellent" with a different menu every night for 920 Krone per person. Great bread at dinner. The best dinners we had in Norway. This was our second trip to Norway in three years.

This little hotel is in one of the most beautiful places we visited in Norway: a small, "sleepy' village (that is famed for all the books they have in various stores).... in the middle of a very amazing fjord.... really nice 'farm to table' food... great for biking and hiking... We stayed on one of the 'basement rooms' that was great and less than great in the following ways: It is right on the water and one looks out to an amazingly beautiful fjord. These 'basement' rooms are very small and basic... Bigger rooms are 'above'...
