I really liked Fitzroy Island itself!! I think I'll just go for a day trip next time. The room was dusty and moldy, and the bed was damp. Unfortunately I couldn't sleep because of the strong damp smell.

This is an apartment-style resort, a suite design with an oversized living room and a full open kitchen where food can be brought in from the city. Each room faces the beach, and you can enjoy sunbathing and snorkeling to see coral at any time, which is very enjoyable. The only thing is that the exhaust air in the bathroom seems to be broken, there is no sound, there is a little air circulation, and there is a little odor in the morning. At the same time, the dishwasher has been posted with a damaged notice, which seems to have been a while. Although it is not used, it is not good to have a broken piece of equipment.

My favorite spot for staycation. Organizing a family trip is not easy but special thanks to Rodney who has been really helpful from reservations up to check in and check out. Yes, he did it all. We were allocated to rooms close to each other which is really handy. The views from Level 2 island suites rooms are just amazing. Pool bar is perfect to relax specially when the sun is out. And yeah we spotted a whale during our stay!! Waking up earky in the morning to see sunrise is such a peaceful view too. Thanks again to all Fitzroy Island Staff for your excellent and friendly service. My family appreciate it very much.

We stayed in the ocean front cabin (however have stayed in resort rooms in the past with the same experience). The rooms are SUPER dated, run down, filthy and just generally a bit gross. The bathrooms are disgusting (rusty/mouldy) – you cannot even see through the glass due to the scum, there is some staining around the toilet. The king bed was made with sheets too small so they did not go all the way to the end of the bed. The curtains are all broken and falling off their runners, tiles are cracked and drummy and just a side note the beds are rock hard (all these issues were also noted in our friends cabin). This was at $450 p/n room with a $250 ferry transfer (which used to be included in the hefty room fee). To be honest I have stayed in WAY nicer hostels. The resort facilities are all very run down and "convenience" store was basically empty but the staff were friendlier than they have been in the past which is a plus. Note: it has been like this for years so I wouldn't expect a change anytime soon. I should say the Island itself is GLORIOUS and we had beautiful time as a family outside of the hotel (who refused to give us beach towels prior to our check in time despite being hotel "guests"). I would recommend a day trip.

Fitzroy island is a beautiful destination a short cruise from Cairns. The resort Is comfortable and clean however it is definitely showing its age across the board. The Welcome bay suite was great with a lovely view through the trees to the beach. We are close enough to the water that you can hear the waves breaking. Lovely. The bed was fine and so was the bathroom. The room has an oven and some cooking supplies and if we ever came again I would do some cooking. The snorkel safari was excellent and worth going to the better locations. The glass bottom boat was great. The beach is lovely and Nudey beach was divine. The pool is nice but cold and the swim up bar closes at 4pm not 5.30pm as signed but all very enjoyable. Before I review the dining please note that whilst food is expensive i totally acknowledge that it is expensive to provide remote location food and services so I understand the price tag. There are LIMITED dining options and whilst Zephyr is nice with a beautiful outlook, the lack of vegetables was frustrating. (Prob ok for one night but multi night stay needs more greens!). Zephyr provides a buffet breakfast which is unfortunately pretty poor with scrambled eggs and poached eggs being cooked at 6,30am and not refreshed! I asked for a boiled egg and this was not possible. 2 hour old scrambled eggs are revolting. The fresh fruit platter was good though and there was an array of pastries. The general store is dreadful and has very few provisions. Foxy bar is a lovely location and the drinks are quite nice. The food is basic and ok. All up we really enjoyed our trip and would recommend as an easy holiday for a family.

I would recommend only traveling to the island for a day trip to avoid interaction with the staff. The island itself is stunning, however, the staff were the worst I’ve ever experienced. We stayed 4 nights and all 4 of those nights the bar closed at 8:30pm or earlier even though we were a group of 10 purchasing regular drinks. On two occasions we watched the bar staff close up to go and drink with the other backpackers. Staff had no manners and seemed unhappy to be there, unfortunately having to interact with them at every meal really put a dampen on our holiday. Would not recommend staying, only visiting.

This was my third stay on Fitzroy Island because it is a beautiful spot, with wonderful snorkelling and swimming just off the beach and a 'resort feel' at a moderate price. First, the good stuff. We stay in the apartments - which have a stunning view over the water, to the west, from the bedroom and balcony, and are clean and spacious. All staff were friendly and helpful. Sadly, this time, our apartment (and the resort generally) was quite rundown and in need of some TLC: broken and wobbly floor tiles, flickering light inside the entrance foyer, one of the bedside lamps was missing (criminal for people who like to read at night!), and, as usual, very few cooking utensils (including no bowl for a salad) in the kitchen. We had a lovely dining experience at the Zephyr Restaurant but Foxy's Bar (the only other alternative for eating) was looking decidedly shabby, with a shortage of tables at times and a bit grotty at others. I’m no longer comfortable to recommend Fitzroy Island to friends. Despite communicating these views privately with the hosts, and requesting an acknowledgment (to be assured they had received it) I have had no response. Hence this (reluctant) review.

Fitzroy Island is beautiful, our second visit. The resort however leaves a lot to be desired. I rate it as a 3 star resort at 5 star prices. After waiting for 45 minutes to get into our penthouse apartment to staff reluctance in handing over enough coffee pods for our group of 8. At $1,700 per night we expected better attention to detail. The meal at the restaurant was nice, the meals at the bistro are basic & expensive.

Wow- the island is amazing and the resort is beautiful. The staff are fun and interested in the guests. The rooms are clean and anything extra we needed was quickly supplied. For basic cleanliness and management of an island resort we were not encouraged to keep food in our rooms. We brought breakfast basics which were easy to store. The restaurant looks great and the bar food is generous.

I really wanted to love our time at the Fitzroy Island Resort, but it didn't quite meet our expectations. We visited with two adults and a 3 year old, and made the mistake of booking a studio room. It was on the ground floor, and so dark, dinghy and quite cramped - especially unfortunate when it rained. At some point between booking and arriving the on site restaurant - Zephyr's - had shifted from an a la carte breakfast menu to a buffet menu. $35 per adult and $25 for a child made for a very expensive experience (especially when your 3 year old only chooses to eat a croissant). We had thankfully packed some Weetabix and camping bowls in our suitcase. It's good to have Foxy's as a slightly cheaper option for dining but the food was 'fast' and extremely salty. The 3 course menu at Zephyr's was OK, but not worth the amount) I was glad to get off the island and eat a vegetable. The experience would have been greatly improved by offering an upgrade when the menu changed or equipping the studio with some kitchen equipment. The range of activities on offer were good, and we enjoyed snorkeling, the turtle sanctuary, glass bottom boat and the hikes. Staff were super kind and friendly.

The positive reviews on here may need salt added. I’ll quote a local here ‘nice island but the resort is tired and run by backpackers’. Nothing against backpackers, generally we love them, but more than a few looked frazzled and under supported . Had the unfortunate opportunity to deal with their customer service. Terrible!

I went on a day trip organised by them. There is no food on the whole island until 11:30am (I arrived at 9). Not even orange juice. Their guests are having breakfast in front of the arriving passengers but no food is available for purchase unless you are staying overnight. staff is very rude and insensitive about it. Telling you if you’re hungry you should just book a room. I wish there was a way to rate their tour because they do not deserve 5 stars. Tour companies should warn their customers that there is no food available from 8 until 11:30. This way they can purchase food before they get on the boat and not starve all morning! This was an outrageous experience. Every single staff member on the island was unfriendly. Maybe they were hungry too.

I don’t normally write reviews but feel compelled to write as we very nearly cancelled our stay as a result of all the negative reviews on here. We stayed for 5 nights in a beach bungalow with 2 teenagers. The snorkelling and views are amazing. We saw whales, reef shark, turtles and a ray. The accommodation was fantastic and cleaned each day. The resort is mainly run by back-backers but they are all delightful. Nothing is too much trouble. The bar serves bar food, as expected. But the restaurant has fantastic food. A very special shout out to Saoirse Mulligan; nothing is too much trouble! Thank you for a fantastic stay!

We (couple and teen) have just returned from a week on Fitzroy Island and just had to write a review to level out all the negativity. Yes, it is not a 5-star resort but it is a great relaxed, and stunningly beautiful place. We had a second-floor room and it was not "run down" as many people have stated. It was a little outdated but the cleaning staff were fabulous and nothing was ever a problem. Dinner at Zephyr's was delicious and the breakfasts were well stocked with a great selection. We saw whales on 2 different occasions and got to see one of the turtles released from the rehab centre both were magical experiences. Lastly, we were impressed with how friendly the staff was (a lot were very new). Special shout out to Saoirse (I think was her name) who went above and beyond. Don't let all the bad reviews put you off. Fitzroy Island is magic
