As my mother in law turned 75, we planned a celebration with our closest family. I was in dialogue with the hotel several times prior to the booking. Little did we know that the hotel was all ready practically fully booked by a very lage group of guests ... I assume we got one of the last rooms available. The weekend was a constant reminder of being "the other ones" - those no one really had time for. My mother in law had been looking forward to have tea and dinner in the old classic 1930s restaurant Neptun. In stead we were shuffled into a small and very unattractive adjacent room for both tea and dinner. When complaining, rude staff told us off. Completely unacceptable. The tea itself was a disappointment, both regards the quality of food (scones very dry and open faced sandwiches instead of the traditional ones) and not worth the money. Also, we did not get to select the tea, so a fruit based tha that no noe really liked very much was served. Quality and personal touch is very important for a small hotel like this ... I feel they did not deliver on any of this parameters. When booked by a large group, it would be advisable to close the hotel for other guests to avoid unhappy customers - like me.

Comfortable rooms with splendid views of the sea. The Strand hotel in Fevik is about 40 minutes from the nearest airport at Kristiansand. This hotel was known as a ‘bathing hotel’ and one can imagine families coming just for the proximity to the beach and calm seawater. The hotel has gardens that lead to a sandy beach and the sea. In August, the water was warm enough for swimming, but the hotel also has a jacuzzi for when it’s colder. There is a generous spread at the breakfast buffet with plenty of smoked salmon and prawn spread, and the famous caramelised Norwegian brown cheese. Staff were friendly and accommodating, helping us carry our luggage to the second floor. One drawback is that there is no elevator, which may be difficult for those with mobility issues. For those wanting to travel to the nearby seaside towns of Arundel or Kristiansan, the hotel will organise a taxi. Be sure to ask for a room with views of the sea, or better still, one with a balcony overlooking the sea.

A last minute change of travel plans led us to this picturesque beach hotel. Situated right at a small sandy beach, this came as a lovely surprise as we got a beach view room with a big private balcony. The staff is welcoming and we felt comfortable. A breakfast buffet with almost anything you’d desire to get the day started

I was at the restaurant with my family. Whereas some found the food to be good, those of us who ordered Cesar Salad were disappointed. The lettuce was soggy, the qrutons were old and hard, and the chicken looked like and tasted like leftover dry chicken. The service was also poor. They had forgotten our reservation and the service was slow. A restaurant with these prices should do better. The main quality of this restaurant is the location.

After firet being a bit disappointed by the room, which didn't have any view, no air condition and a mediocre bathroom, we continued to be pleasently surprised by the hotel the rest of the time. Hotel staff was very polite and proper, the outdoor areas were beautiful. The beach was a nice sandy beach, with fine sand 50 meters into the ocean, a popular spot for visiitors from outside the hotel as well. In the outdoor sitting area, resereved for hotel guests only, we had an excellent view of the beach, sea and scenery, with both morning and evening sun. Table cleaning in the outdoor areas was somewhat slow, but when we ordered something, they made sure to clean the table of leftover dishes. Since the outdoor table didn't have table numbers, we ordered it for table 0, and never had an issue with delivery (as someone else here complained about). The restaurant was very good. Good selection for breakfast, and the somewhat expensive dinner was high quality with excellent wine pairings. A very nice area for biking as well, bus right outside the hotel, with destinations for Grimstad, Kristiansand and Arendal. Parking included in the stay, 10 minute drive to Grimstad, 15 minutes to Arendal, and 35 to Kristiansand, makes this a very good spot to stay when visiting the surrounding cities
