I was given an afternoon tea voucher for my birthday so decided to take my Friend. We booked our train tickets and we going to make a day of it. But, with only 18 hours notice they cancelled. The excuse they gave was ridiculous - they decided they were going to start ‘renovations’ to the kitchen the next day (although they could still do breakfasts?) - they must think I am stupid! They wanted me to rebook but refused to refund my out of pocket expenses, so why would I want to waste more money on a different date. The management have refused to discuss the matter with me and ignore my emails. What ever sort of business are they. I certainly won’t ever be going here anytime soon.

Dreadful ! A crime against our heritage! This incredible historic inn built in 1655 was given an horrendous out-of-character makeover back in the 90s and nothing has been done since. The interior is sad and unloved, the furniture is a dreadful mix of scruffy random pieces and weird mirrored tables, all 'adorned' by dusty plastic flower bouquets. Really depressing and tragic. On top of that, our room had a horrible mouldy smell which probably emanated from the bathroom - it was so strong it permeated all our clothes and we had to wash or dry clean them when we got home. I wrote to complain about this but they didn't bother to reply to me. Tells you a lot about their attitude to their clients. Breakfast - the 'buffet' was the saddest display we've seen, two or three mini packets of cereals and a few slices of bread which were literally curling at the edges. No yogurt, no nice fresh fruit, nothing appealing. The cooked breakfast was running with grease. Truly this was a dreadful experience, the second worst hotel we've stayed in in England, and the family which own it should be ashamed of how they are running it. They leave one young lady to manage it all and presumably just sit at home counting the dosh which unsuspecting clients like us provide them with. The friends we were meeting who live locally said 'Oh no!' when we told them where we were staying - tells you all you need to know! Avoid!

I called the hotel on 12-Jul-24, booking the night of 17-Jul-24, requesting a quiet room not facing the main road to minimise noise and maximise sleep. I arrived at the hotel at 7pm on 17-Jul-24 and was directed to the “Victoria Suite” on the first floor. This was not a suite, but a single room which faced the main road, and included an adjoining door leading to the next hotel room. I could hear every word spoken by the room occupants and clearly, they could hear me.. I was not informed of either issue prior to and during my arrival. Returning to the reception desk, I could not directly find the receptionist, who was serving behind the bar. The hotel does not have sufficient staff to operate efficiently. I requested a room as booked from the receptionist, which he could not provide, neither could the manager, the hotel apparently being full. The manager offered me my money back, suggesting that I leave to find another hotel, even though I was a new arrival in the area. He reluctantly agreed to call other local hotels, but they were all full. The manager stated that the hotel was Grade 1 listed, and the structure could not be changed. Adding a soundproofing panel to the adjoining door frame had clearly never been considered. I was forced to stay in a hotel room that was not as booked, under protest. I had to endure noise from my neighbours and broken sleep until I knocked on the adjoining wall and asked for quiet, which worked. Terrestrial TV programs were not available on the TV supplied, with a message on screen stating that the arial was not receiving a signal. TV apps could not be accessed. Background noise of loud music penetrated the room from downstairs (presumably the bar) until past 11.30 pm, which kept me awake. I arrived for breakfast at 8am on 18-Jul-24 and ordered a full English breakfast. I received my breakfast at 8.35am, during which time a couple arrived in the room after me, sat next to me, ordered and received their breakfast, and left just as mine arrived, after having to ask where my breakfast was. I have stated truthfully what happened during my stay and have informed the hotel accordingly, without response.

Looking for a Sunday lunch would have preferred a carvery which was advertised but at 3.30 this had finished understandable. The inn is such a great old house it’s a shame no one was there the staff are very helpful and couldn’t do enough Had we visited at a busy period the warmth and charm of the building would have been better but it’s a bit off the beaten track. Would visit again if around the Diss areas

This place is appalling it’s run by teenagers who don’t care about their guest and in face today after asking to talk to a manger I had two reception staff laugh to me and my husband when I ask for the manager they said there wasn’t one, I ask for the head office number they said they didn’t have it, we paid for breakfast we had 3 rooms and gave up after waiting 30 mins for eggs along with many other guests they came out and we witnessed them putting hot food in the old trays on top of the left over scraps of what was left from before, in risk of food poisoning we didn’t eat breakfast. This place is solely run by young kids who have no customer service skills and no idea on food hygiene and the process of preventing food poisoning.

Cannot fault the this hotel experience, the staff are amazing, they treated us more like family than just guests. The hotel is full of history with modern facilities. The carvery was spot on as was the Breakfast Only wish we could have stayed for longer and I’m sure we will be back for a longer stay in the future. 10/10

Amazing looking building, and very imposing. Booked for a midweek family meal and on arrival was shown to the bar as the restaurant wasn’t open. Quick service for drinks, and then it all went downhill… Food was extremely disappointing and I did complain. I had ordered the chicken supreme which has to be the smallest portion ever and came with no sauce, just a dry piece of chicken. Waitress offered to bring me more sauce, but overall an extremely disappointing experience. We were also charged in full and no offer to reduce the bill was made. Sadly, we felt that our whole experience could have been so much better and we will not be returning or recommending The Scole Inn to our friends and family…

We booked into this hotel at 20.00 on a Wednesday night to find that the restaurant was closed, the receptionist was really nice and she managed to get the chef to make us a ham and cheese toastie, I asked if she could do us 2 toasties as we we very hungry , they were very nice till we found out the price £47.99 for the food a pint of lager and 1/2 coke, I could have had a Indian takeaway delivered for half the price. My room looked very nice but the bed was the worst I have ever slept in, I was in room 14 , the mattress really needs changing, the shower was very good and powerful but foliage growing through the crack in the window frame spoiled the experience. We went for breakfast in the morning to find the kitchen staff were not there so had to wait 1/2 hour till they turned up overall it was not a good experience and I would not stay at this hotel again.

Terrible food. Hair in sandwiches and stale bread. Salad wasn’t fresh either. Strawberries tasted of onions. Sausages overdone. Avoid if you don’t want to gag on the food 🤮 Strange for a lunchtime and was dead - only went because we had a voucher bought for us - but please don’t spend your hard earned cash on this place!
