Englehart Motel

Absoutley the worst experience I've ever had at a hotel/motel. If you are thinking of coming here or a railfan coming for the ONR stay somewhere else. I originally called and asked if they had any rooms available, got the room details and price from the owner and found everything online to be cheaper than what she said, so I went ahead and booked through a 3rd party. After driving 8+ hours and arriving at 930pm I just wanted somewhere to crash. I was told my friend and I had to wait approx 5 min while "they switched the TV's around" so I had a working TV. After 15 minutes I walked in and said I was ready to just go to bed, they insisted to get me a working TV, switching me from 2 different rooms than the one they had originally booked me into. It was now getting past 10 and they kept insisting that the previous people messed with the TV, even though this was 3 different rooms. They told me they couldn't get the TV repair man in lately so they decided to wait till their only customer showed up. While that was happening a smoke detector with a low battery kept going off outside of my room, I mentioned them fixing it and was told not to worry because it was in the hall not in my room, that got fixed only after them making a fuss about it and me threatening to take care of it myself. They only give you 1 towel each for a room with 2 people. When I asked for 2 extra towels I was told "I could get them tomorrow after I used the ones I had". Sorry I'm not wiping my upstairs with the same towel I wiped off my downstairs. I literally had to tell them they had a camera facing my room and could watch me sneak all my friends in. The door has no peep hole and is also only a digital deadbolt, meaning your card can get you in, you can "lock" the door but they still have a master card which can get in locked rooms. There is no physical deadbolt. Towels, TV and smoke detector were all fixed only after arguing, the owners giving me pure attitude and being extremely rude. I'd be heading down the road to the Earlton Motel if I had another choice.

There is no continental breakfast but had restaurant attached to hotel. BUT... when i ordered fluffy pancakes like the picture, I recieved 3 small frozen put in the mocrowave pancakes i ordere

It was fine. Not a bad stay on balance. I was worried when we checked in as a hole in the sink had been patched with what looked like industrial tape, our bathroom fan didn't work and it was dark in there with 1 of 2 bulbs functional, and we had no hot water. Or at least we didn't think we had hot water. It turns out you just have to run the tap for 15-20 minutes to get the hot water running. LITERALLY. We also only had 1 towel and no extra toilet paper. It was eco-friendly, but I think it was a budget decision rather than an attempt to make the world more sustainable. That being said, the beds were comfortable, even if the room was a little cold, even with the thermostat cranked. My Dad installed a fake thermostat for me at home as a child so I'm actually used to that touch of home. Anyway, we slept well and although we weren't quiet, the hotel generously left us enjoy our gathering into the early hours of the morning. Breakfast at the restaurant was alright. I didn't read the description of the western omelet, so I had what amounted to scrambled eggs with bits of broccoli in it. No ham. Coffee was $6, and they charged us for an extra $6 coffee when we filled our thermos for softball. That felt a little punitive. The front desk was responsive to requests and we about an hour late checking out, but they kindly let that go for us. Staff were generally helpful but deadpan. Honestly, I'll probably come back. I'm a sucker for a familiar place. Cheers!
