You sleep in a romantic castle hotel - outside with a moat, drawbridge and outbuildings, inside with stately fireplaces and old oil paintings. The rooms are also thankfully not modernist, but in a mild Laura Ashley style that fits well with the old walls. Although we had the cheapest room category, we were accommodated on the first floor of the main building, where we got a really large room equipped with every luxury. According to the plan, there are even larger rooms. The bathroom was modern with a shower, bathtub, double washbasin and separate toilet. The room furnishings are classic luxury: plenty of toiletries in small bottles from L'Occitane, bathrobes, slippers, free water, chocolates, etc. A bit like in the old days, when the savings commissioners didn't rule in 5-star hotels. The downside: the room doors are poorly insulated, so you can hear banging from the corridors in the morning. The aircraft noise is also quite loud. What is absolutely not acceptable, and certainly not in a luxury hotel: Check-out is at 11:00. We were allowed to stay a little longer on request, but that was an exception. Because of the early check-out time and the background noise, I have to deduct one star overall. The bar has a nice ambience, especially if you can still get a seat in front of the fireplace. On the other hand, the bar menu is pretty boring and the bar staff are quickly overwhelmed. The restaurant offers solid quality, but it is not exciting. The dessert stood out positively. The castle grounds are very pretty, especially when the weather is nice, and the restaurant rooms are spectacular. You can also sit nicely in the bar or lobby. We were not able to try the breakfast because it is only available until 10:30 on Sundays and you have to be there by 10:00 at the latest because of the à la carte order. CONCLUSION: The ambience is wonderfully romantic and the rooms still offer classic luxury. However, for a nice weekend, there is no pool and the breakfast and check-out times are too restrictive. Added to that is the noise from airplanes. I have the impression that the hotel is mainly used for larger events that require a stately setting.
