1. Check-in/Check-out: 5/5 Straightforward and friendly. 2. Rooms (cleanliness, amenities) 5/5 Spotless. Comfy. Nice. 3. On-premise restaurants: 5/5 Breakfast was plentiful and tasty. 4. Pool area: n/a 5. Service: 5/5 Notes: A few interesting observations for the property. There were…no fridge no phone and no safe in the room. Deliberate choice by the hotel, when asked about it. It is located right in the middle of a UNESCO site. The coal mine was right there and now you can explore the site and a museum. Hotel’s decoration shows that as well. The interior design is very cool and modern. From the color choices to lighting to furniture, it is a very cozy property throughout. The highlight of our trip, however, was to see the dancer of the TS, apparently they were staying here as well, at least half of them. My kiddo was star struck. Overall weighted score: 5.0 out of 5.0 Would we come back? Yes and Yes, especially if you are going to Gelsenkirchen arena.

This has to be one of the coolest hotels I've ever been in. First, the location. The hotel is actually IN the famous Zollverein historic coal and coke complex. So just check in, park your car in their dedicated lot and then just wander. It takes hours and hours to make a proper visit to the Zollverein. Secondly, because the owners (a private party who owns just two other hotels in Germany) has gone of his or her way to carry through on the theme of the colliery. There are all kinds of interesting pictures and artifacts that go back to the days when the complex was operating. Third, the staff. Talk about a friendly bunch! The two ladies on the front desk are especially accommodating and both speak excellent English. They exemplify the name of the hotel where they work. Terrific. The rooms are also full of character, and again, follow through on a theme. So, to sum up, if you don't absolutely have to be in a hotel in Essen City Center, the Hotel Friends would be a wonderful choice.

Dit hotel boekten we omdat het dicht bij de mijnsite Zollverein ligt. De stad Essen ligt vlakbij en er is de mogelijkheid om met de tram te reizen. Het hotel bood prima prijs-kwaliteit (buiten het seizoen). Keurige en nette kamer, lekker ontbijt, 's avond een drankje aan de bar voor matige prijzen.

· Es ist ein außergewöhnliches Hotel. Sehr dunkel fast schwarz gehalten, ganz im Still einer Zeche. Die Zimmer sind minimalistisch aber qualitativ sehr gut ausgestattet. Ein toller Eingangsbereich mit sehr nettem Empfang, eine sehr schöne Bar mit tollem Personal. Überall gibt es gemütliche Sitzmöglichkeiten die Bar ist 24/7 geöffnet der Chef war immer anwesend und sehr nett. Das Frühstück war überragend. Sehr gute Brötchen eine große Kaffeeauswahl, schöne Sitzplätze, wirklich alles da was man braucht. Wenn Essen dann Friends Zeche Zollverein.

Sehr guter Standort wenn man die Zeche Zollverein erkunden will. Mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln muß man über die Zeche laufen- tagsüber spannend, nachts sehr gruselig. Der Empfang war total nett, warmherzig und „typisch Ruhrpott“, die Lobby absolut schick. Das Zimmer war aber eher enttäuschend, auch schick, aber sehr karg. Tolle Rituals-Produkte im Bad. Das Frühstück war reichhaltig und mit frischen Produkten. Leider war der Negroni an der schicken und wirklich gemütlichen Bar untrinkbar. Ebenfalls ein wenig ärgerlich: der Parkplatz ist kostenpflichtig, das war so nicht kommuniziert. Insgesamt eher hohes Preisniveau.

es ist eine Unverschämtheit. wir sind ein Unternehmen in Spanien und wir haben vor Montaten eine Reserve per Telefon gemacht da man uns gesagt hat, dass eine schriftliche Resersve nicht notwendig wäre. Als dort 3 lPersonen aus unserem Unternehmen gestern Nacht dort ankommen sagt man Ihnen, dass es keine freien Zimmer und keine Reserve für Sie geben würde. Da es um einen Messebesuch in Düsseldorf geht, sind in allen Hotels die Zimmer ausgebucht. ich nehme an, dass das Hotel in letzter Stunde einfach freie Zimmer brauchte und unsere Reservierung, die telefonisch erfolgte einfach vergeben hat. so etwas ist einfach unglaublich. ich hoffe, dass so etwas nie wieder passiert. deswegen schreibe ich auch was uns in diesem Hotel passiert ist, damit es nie wieder vorkommt.

Dit fantastische hotel staat midden in het Zollverein, en biedt een pracht uitgangspunt om dit terrein, steenkoolmijn en hoogovens, te bezoeken. De receptie is zeer vriendelijk en erg klant gericht. De kamer is prachtig met allerlei posters van evenementen op de muur. De bedden zijn heerlijk even als het sanitair. 's avonds in et hotel buiten gegeten. Heerlijk bieren en wijnen een een voortreffelijk buffet. Kortom voor een ieder die het Zollverein wil bezoeken, bijvoorbeeld zoals wij tijdens onze fietstocht langs de Ruhr, is dit een ideaal hotel.
