Hotel Domizil

Very pleasant two night stay here. The main disadvantage is that the hotel is far from the main train station (we were traveling by mass transit) and since we had not figured out the Tram system yet, we had to lug our suitcases a long way. But once we arrived, we were very happy with the service. Our room was a large studio suite on ground level with a private entrance from the rear car park. It was quiet and spacious. I have read the other customers' comments on the bathrooms. This room had an entirely separate bathroom with a door (shower only, no tub) and was just fine. Small kitchenette. Table, chairs, couch, king bed. I would have stayed for a week! The breakfast is substantial. The little tiered tray they place in front of you has WAY TOO MUCH FOOD! But I sure wish I could have finished it all. It was delicious.

My wife and I were travelling round Germany by train in Jan 2024. When we arrived in Berlin we discovered that the Deutsche Bahn train drivers were going on strike for 6 days. This really scuppered our travel plans as we risked being unable to reach our destinations and/or getting stuck at various places. So we decided to head to Poland instead. I contacted 4 German hotels that we were booked into during those 6 days, explained our predicament, and all kindly agreed to cancel our bookings without charge - EXCEPT this one that refused! They charged over £200 for 2 nights when we could not get to Erfurt! A very poor reflection on the hotel to foreign visitors. Many establishments and companies only show their real attitude to customer service when issues arise. I have no doubt that when things go well this hotel is fine. But if things go wrong you now know what to expect. Hotel Domizil doesn't believe in customer service, only their profits. I would take the safe option: book elsewhere where they know how to treat guests properly. Don't take the risk. AVOID THIS HOTEL.

Stayed here on a recent Europe trip for 3 nights with my son and brother in law. Just a wonderful, charming boutique hotel. Where do I start? Family owned and operated and their attention to every detail shows up throughout the hotel. Jenny and Dominic were so delightful (and very patient with my rusty German!). More details of our stay follow, but suffice it to say we fell in love with them, their hotel and their city and didn't want to leave! Check-in smooth and were shown to our rooms - nice touch. Jenny was very patient with me over the past two years navigating repeated COVID related schedule changes. Rooms were huge, well appointed and extremely comfortable. Interesting set-up with bathrooms not in a separate room but smoke glass partioned from rest of room. Everything in the room sparkled and we enjoyed the extra seating area in our rooms. Very comfortable, large beds. Wifi signal was good throughout the hotel. Dining room is beautiful and large. The breakfast was amazing and of course Jenny and Dominic attended to our every need. Erfurt itself is a gem. The amazing Altstadt is compact and very walkable. Cathedral and domplatz are wonderful. Several other notable churches and attractions. Great restaurant selection also. Erfurt is a bit off the beaten path for US tourists, but it certainly merits a visit if you want an authentic, small German city experience. If you do, I can't recommend the Hotel Domizil highly enough!

This hotel is 100 meters from the Erfurt Christmas Market. The hotel is spotless. The breakfast is amazing. The chef places a wooden stand at your table with about 50 different foods to choose from. The hotel has private parking. The reception staff so accommodating. Bottled water in the room. Slippers in the room. In the hallway there is a fridge with beer & wine. You help yourself & pay at the desk. Just a wonderful place to stay all around!
