As I get older, long freeway trips with a handicapped spouse often means ”stopping somewhere along the way”. Our itinerary put us in the Yakima/Ellensburg WA area for a stopover. So, I booked a 1-night stop at the TownePlace Suites in Ellensburg based on other TripAdvisor recommendations. The hotel is quite new, and very stylish. It is easy to reach from the freeway and has many features that I really enjoyed. When you walk in, you are greeted immediately by a friendly desk clerk who makes you feel personal and welcome. They are set up for travelers and know how tired you are when you arrive. After check-in we immediately decompressed in the hotel's bar with a couple of drinks and some excellent pub food. We did not have to leave the hotel to find a place to eat. The service was excellent. It was fast, friendly, and helpful. There are seating areas outside around a firepit and large gas BBQs that can be used by guests. Afterwards, we went up to the room, and although it was in the noisiest location of any hotel (immediately across from the elevators and ice machine), inside the room it was VERY quiet. Our room (#215) was spacious, clean, and well laid out. It had a full kitchenette for longer stays. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was big enough to hold many people. My only complaint with the bathroom was that there were no grab-bars at the toilet making it difficult for handicapped people to use it safely. When I noted this at the desk during checkout, they said they DO have ADA accessible rooms at the hotel, and the next time you book to request one. Don't expect a view from your room. There isn't anything great to see in either direction except for a glorious sunrise/sunset. Expect comfort and quiet instead. The hotel had a European boutique vibe that made it so refreshing from any of the standard room-and-pool hotels you find. Everyone wanted to help you and did everything they could to accommodate. Breakfast in the lobby was excellent and filling with a variety of quality options. I really liked this small and scrappy hotel. I recommend it to overnight travelers and those who need to stay in Ellensburg for several days, and I will use it again when I take on another Washington State road trip.
