Was asked to pay in advance for this hotel and told that couldn’t pay on arrival. As based in UK my bank charged a currency conversion fee to send payment in USD. When I arrived they asked for a 5,500 LKR payment (c. $18), which apparently was to cover their currency conversion costs. This meant I paid for their foreign exchange, despite it being them who insisted on advance payment. Forex risk should be a consideration as part of running their commercial enterprise, and not borne by the guest as an extra charge on arrival. Very disappointing. Especially as if I paid on arrival, this could have been avoided completely. Staff were attentive, friendly, and always willing to help. Room was clean and sizeable, and bed was really comfy. Plus great views.
