Misty Hills Ella Resort

Keeping in mind this is a 3 star hotel, the positives are the rooms are big with a balcony looking out at amazing views (ours anyway), and the pool is clean and quite big also with amazing views and a concrete elephant water feature!!! The location of the hotel is pretty good too - far enough from other properties to be quiet but close enough to Ella main drag that you can walk in 10-15 minutes or pay a tuk tuk driver double the rate of Colombo to get to and from. The big negative for us was that despite being told upon checking in that the room would be cleaned every day, it was not. And I was told the reason why was that we didn’t hand in our key for it to be done - which seems bizarre after staying in hotels for decades and not being told to or having to hand in a key in order to get a standard daily room clean. The insinuation that it was our fault for not handing in a key (not that we were told to do so on checking in) was extremely irritating. Food was ok but overpriced so we ate elsewhere (lots of options). There were lots of little things in the rooms that could be easily addressed to make them nicer - definitely not having ripped old bath towels, and removing an empty TV bracket from the wall (like a TV used to be there but not anymore - or was it just our room, who knows). All these little things add up to I really think the room rate is too high - but we are here in the high season so maybe that’s just the going rate.

Hotel situated just off the main road. It was fabulous stay. recently done lot of renovations. comfortable bed. beautiful sun rice in the morning. very good service. very good breakfast. Good looking pool. unfortunately we had no time to dip.

This is our second time after 4 years. completely different hotel. very beautiful swimming pool at the edge. also there is a elevator to avoid steps. very friendly staff. it was a fabulous stay again with beautiful view delicious breakfast and we had a rice and chicken curry for the dinner

One of the best views of ella are from the balcony of 8 rooms in this resort. Big rooms, big balconies and bathrooms. Staying here involves climbing steep stairs as it is located on a hill with a rivulets passing by next to it. Breakfasts are good. Does not have a full fledged restaurant.

Amazing view to wake up to in the morning. Wake up early around 5:30am to see the purple hue of the sky. The hotel is very reasonably priced and is about 5mins outside of Ella via car. It’s very easy to get a tuk-tuk late at night from Ella to the hotel. As the hotel is surrounded by deep vegetation a lot of flies can fly in through doors left open. However the beds are covered with mosquito nets.
