Rainbow Sky Cottage Ella

Such a beautiful view! I would kill for that view from terrace 😅 But the real significance of this place is the family that rents out these houses. Very kind and friendly people. Helped us to carry my mother when she broke her leg. Thank U so much! ☺️ Also I wanna say that the beds are comfortable. Everything is clean. The ventilators work well. Hope to come back soon 🤞

We had a very relaxing 2 nights with Chandu, his mother and sister, surrounded by mother's vegetables - her first year growing yellow tomatoes. She is a very sweet humble lady and so is the whole family, makes you feel very cared for and welcome. Breakfast was huge and delicious, and it was all so affordable. The rooms have the most incredible view of the valley below, the train line, the vegetable gardens and you can walk directly down to the train track and walk just 20 mins either to Ella, or to the waterfall and on to Ella Rock. Clean and comfortable mattress, tea facilities provided and plenty of water available. There is a great restaurant Bees Honey restaurant just below the guest house which is very popular and great fresh food. Honestly we lucked out finding this place and I'd go again. Thanks to you all! Magical location high in the hills with stunning views. And the family were wonderful, perfect hosts The view is outstanding! And the family were lovely, they could not do enough for you. They helped us with the luggage and with advice about the area. And we were able to use the kitchen to make tea/coffee to enjoy on the terrace. The breakfast was a feast, amazing. We loved staying at this place and we really missed it when we left. It was a magical spot :)

Beautiful little gem tucked away on the side of a mountain. Also, just steps away from the train tracks. Chandu and family, who run the hotel, are so sweet and attentive.

I loved the hospitality. The owner/staff were extremely friendly and catered to all our needs as we had 2 kids along. The stay offers a super beautiful view of the valley and also can see the train go by. Our kid had a bad tummy. One of the owners did not hesitate even one bit and took us to a doctor that was 7kms away at 11pm. It was a cold night and she also arranged for a Tuk Tuk to get there and stayed with us until we were back. She also spoke to the doctor on our behalf and was extremely helpful Words cannot describe how good our stay was. If we happen to go to Ella agaain, we will stay here only.

This simple guest house has a stunning view of the valley, not far above the train tracks, with full-on views of Ella Rock and the sunrise, if you can get up early for it. The views and the sounds of the birds and frogs were a highlight of my time in Sri Lanka, but the guesthouse itself was not. My room was rather dank and dark, and the inside of drawers and under the bed were not cleaned thoroughly. The overhead light in the bathroom didn’t work because of the rain that would pour in, and the shower was not warm. In addition, Rainbow Sky is located very far from the center of (10 min tuktuk ride) and down a very steep driveway. It was a bit isolating. The woman who prepared breakfast and coordinated checkin and checkout didn’t speak great English but she found a way to communicate, and made excellent Sri Lankan breakfasts. There were negative and positives staying here; I just don’t know if the positives warrant staying so far out of the center of town, unless you are going for something super chill. If you are, they also make delicious and ample rice and curry for dinner if you decide to stay in.

I went off the review that was made in January 2022, and I am glad that did. Like the previous reviewer the area is a little bit daunting but I found that it was only so because we arrived when it was dark outside. When it was day time or early evening, it was fine, and if you arrive in a big van like we did, you can contact the hotel and they can help with your arrival! About the hotel experience itself. It was probably one of my most meaningful hotel experiences ever(!) and its because of the family who runs it. The absolute kindest people you will ever meet, we met a lady, a man, and their son and daughter and each one of them just radiated kindness and care for their guests. We arrived late, and quickly discussed if dinner would be possible- they made it happen and it was a huge dinner at such a low price! We were a big group and took up several rooms, every room was super clean, and had very comfortable beds. The next morning we woke up to the most beautiful view, it was beyond stunning - I suggest that if you stay here to try and be on the balcony/patio at sunset or sunrise, because it is truly spectacular. We had the most wonderful breakfast with the view (her hoppers/appams were delicious!) Not only was the hotel clean and comfortable, it had a million dollar view and such a beautiful family hosting- I will definitely return!

We arrived at night, and on first impressions, honestly it didn't look good. We were taken down a dark steep hill, into an area where it felt like we were about to be robbed. But then around the corner our driver introduced his lovely, smiling mum, and they showed us a lovely room with two beds, and asked if we wanted a tea - to which we said yes, and asked also for food. The mother smiled agreement, the son suggested a really cheap price, and they told us food would be served in an hour. The room was basic, but clean, and nice colourful touches had been added. I was worried to see that there was no AC, only a standing fan, but it turned out that we really didn't need it as it gets cold in the evening. One of the daughters knocked on our door in around 20mins and we were taken round to a little outside seating area which was attached to our room. She'd set up a lovely tea set. As we had our tea, we saw people scurrying past with bits and pieces for our dinner and they all smiled and welcomed us. When dinner was ready we were taken to the main eating area, where the most lovely, generous spread of local food was provided. We met other members of the family, and we chatted with other guests. Our night was perfectly lovely - water pressure was a bit low, but no other complaints. In the morning, the place was entirely different - we were on the edge of a mountain! The view was incredible! Breakfast was another generous spread. I highly recommend this genuine place.
