This is such a relaxing place that we could have stayed at least a month! The staff were all lovely - we dealt the most with Etni at the reception, Alfredo and all the wait staff were friendly and helpful. Even the gardener pointed out a lone howler monkey who was trying to find his family! The only suggestion I would have would be to post the dinner menu in the morning. We arrived at noon and decided to have lunch there and ordered chicken. Then for dinner it chicken stuffed with broccoli which was delicious. The following night it was chicken *****s with vegetables. So all in all that was a lot of chicken over just 2 days! I loved the riz au lait for breakfast as a starter - how original!

Their description that this hotel is a little bit of paradise is true, we had such a lovely relaxing time. Tikal is close by, the lake water is warm ( but not too warm), the food is good, the staff friendly and helpful. The room ( we chose one of the air-conditioned rooms as we were worried about the heat) was large and very comfortable. We will definitely come back again

Overall there is good value for money, however, there were a few unpleasant inconveniences. First was that our room supposedly had a private dock but people kept passing by and even staying in our area so it didn't feel too private, even once when coming out of the shower I found people in front of the door to the dock, even with the drapes closed it felt very invasive. The other one was that there was no hot water at the shower and they said they would send someone from the staff to fix it but no one showed up. The third one was that on one breakfast we had a hair in our food, so they replaced the whole plate and then after asking for a coffee they served it on a mug that didn't look clean. Besides from that the experience was good, the staff was mostly friendly, the food was tasty, the ambiance was relaxing and joyful, and the facilities are great.

A small piece of paradise, out of this world. The view on the lake is so peaceful, the staff is kind and competent, the rooms are clean and comfy (albeit a bit small), and the food is great. I wish I could spend more time there. Don’t hesitate, this is a great place to stay.

Gringo Perdido is like one of those great Adirondack lodges built by the Rockefellers and Whitney’s in the late 19th/early 20th century. Only transported from the mountains of New York State to a Guatemalan lakeshore. Impressive communal structures, gorgeous views, great swimming, outstanding food and service. There is even a small library! And Lola the dog is the hostess with the mostest!

Absolutely fantastic! From beautiful setting to the friendly helpful staff to the incredible and generous food. This was the highlight of our trip to Central America. The rooms are clean and comfortable and there is filtered water provided for you as well as help yourself tea and coffee all day. Two course breakfast every morning, three course dinner every night all of which were delicious. We also had lunch a couple of times and the nachos were my children’s favourite thing they ate the whole trip. The team also arranged a sunrise tour of Tikal for us including a great guide and transport for £140 equivalent…for five of us!! We felt this was very reasonable. The lady who handles all the reservations was also super helpful with our transfers back and forth to the Belize border and couldn’t do enough. I would highly recommend this hotel, it was a slice of paradise!!

Beautiful setting on Lake Peten Itza. Excellent service. Breakfast is eggs to order, and dinner included is a fixed plate. Swimming and paddle boarding available. Close to the water. It is not far from Tikal and other archeological sites.

I hesitate to say too many nice things about this place....because i don't want it to become too busy!!! Gringo Perdido is one of my favorite place in the world. The village of El Remate, only a few kilometres from Gringo, is a welcoming and peaceful place, far removed from the hustle and bustle of other 'tourist' town destinations in Guatemala. If you've been here, you know the names..so i won't bother to mention them. If you are looking for crowds, vendors, pick pockets and pollution, go somewhere else in Guatemala. Looking for surreal and endless peace, unexplainable energy, refreshing swimming, comfortable rooms, exceptional cuisine, and incredibly welcoming and warm hosts - head to Gringo. All of the locals who work here, the managing team and especially, I mean REALLY especially the ownership family... they have owned and operated Gringo Perdido for almost 50 years... and have an immaculate record of conservation, sustainability, community support... they have done so much for this village in way of support health, employment and education. Why not stay somewhere where you know the proceeds are invested back into the community? Where the family helps build medical and dental care centers, student scholarships, vocational training, culture preservation in many ways...land and historical site preservation. A massive storm took out a portion of the lobby area, and they not only rebuilt it more magnificent and beautiful than ever, but they re-invested in numerous upgrades to the rooms, lounge area, kitchen and recreational areas. however...after travelling and staying here for over 20 years, i was amazed and extremely pleased to see the charm and enjoyment of the property was only exacerbated. Comfort, safety, peace and joy. I have been here by myself, with my family, and with a group of 40+ people... every experience is different, and all are incredibly memorable. less than 3 hours from Rio Dulce, 20 minutes to Tikal, and within 30 minutes of other Mayan ruin parks, lake activities, animal rescue parks, Flores, zip-lines.... lots of good old fun to be had. or hang out in a hammock all day (I highly recommend it) and pour through a book and a few fresh fantastic cocktails at their full service (yet quaint and comfortable) bar. I love this place. I LOVE this place. 'Nuff said.
