This is our halfway stop when traveling to the east, and a 9 hr. day. We are Marriott members since 2008 and stay exclusively at Marriott brands unless none are available. The Fairfield brand is a good level within the Marriott portfolio with a level of comfort we have come to expect and see it to be consistent. The property in Effingham did not maintained that standard. It is an older property but is well maintained and kept clean to very high standards. I could find no discrepancies, I mean I was in the Marines so if I wanted to find something I'm sure I could but I'm not having heart surgery at a Fairfield. We staying for the first time in a whirlpool tub room. I felt this might help at the end of a 9 hr. drive and I was spot on. The room photos were true to form from the real thing. Details....The water pressure to fill the tub was very high had to be 80 PSI so the tub would fill fast and it did. It also was as hot has you could take it and I would caution you on that. It is true what they say with hot tubs and temperature, 115 if more than enough. Room was spacious, also worth mentioning these are on the first floor likely due to the volume of water in the tub and not wanting 400 gal of water 5 stories up. Also, because of that they double downed and setup the room up as and ADA which was fine. Bed was as expected comfortable, it's one of the reasons you stay at a Marriott. The hotel had a pool and hot tub but we did not use those. Also a fitness are with the standard equipment. Breakfast, well that is a plus. Now it's not JW Marriott but still it is a nice plus to be able to grab a quick bite and get on the road. Often travelers just trash the breakfast area as they are moving fast and maybe a bit weary. But this area was impeccable and all the food items were kept fully stocked. This caught my attention so I start to watch why this was. Well should I say a couple of more mature staff members had charge of this area, Loretta and Annetta just crushed it. Tables all wiped down, coffee all full, no spills anywhere....I think they felt this was there eat in kitchen at home, could not say enough that is hard work. ( I hope Marriott recognizes them). This location may seem odd initially and sits adjacent to a neighborhood but it really is safe and no problem. Still very close to dinner options and fast to get on the interstate. We are scheduled to stop here again on our way back in a few weeks.
