Our top hotel picks are based on price, location, and guest reviews to help you find the best stay.
"I had three bookings since I wasn’t sure about my length of stay. Hotel was unable to clean my room or even provide clean towels and empty the trash. They cited a cleaning every 5/7(?) days and a cleaning fee of GBP25/35(?) should I wish for a cleaning. This was despite checking in/ out three times during my four night stay. No bath wash and shampoo when I checked in and staff said they had inventory issues as an explanation. Hotel manager was able to help for one cleaning. But otherwise service was abysmal. Otherwise hotel is newly renovated, but the service was a real letdown."
"The room had comfortable beds and was quite spacious. The air conditioning worked well, and thoughtful touches like earplugs and eye masks were provided. Its location couldn't be better: right in the heart of the Old Town's Royal Mile, immediately beside St Giles' Cathedral and the statue of Adam Smith. The ground floor houses a bar, which is very handy for a quick beer or whiskey. You also check in here. Upon arrival, you're given a 5-digit access code (mine was 78275) that opens all doors. Each bunk bed has a corresponding numbered locker (they're quite spacious), which you secure by entering a 4-digit PIN twice."
"The room was on the smaller side, but the facilities and service were excellent. The staff were very accommodating and offered free luggage storage. The front desk staff were particularly warm and welcoming, making us feel very comfortable. The room itself was clean. However, given the hotel's age, some facilities were noticeably dated."
"The hotel is located in an excellent location where you can reach the scenery points by walking or riding the city light tram. The city light tram will wake you up early in 6am that you have not to set an alarm clock. It is good for people not bringing alarm clock with them.
The room is clean and tidy approximately in 13 square meters. Nothing is provided in the room even a bottle pf water is absent. I tried to ask the receiption for a bottle of water and they told me to drink tap water.
Also the facilities of the hotel is good for people who wants to keep fit as there is always a single lift working. Tens of guests are queuing in the lobby when a coach bring tourists to check in. I always walk stairs for keep fit in this hotel.
The workers in this hotel are very hard working. They will knock your door at 7-8am for cleaning. Thanks to managements who will gather at the corridor coordinating workers to work before people check in at 1500 hrs. The fire alarm is also hard working and sensitive. The fire alarm knows to teach people the dangerous of fire. I had been living 4 nights in this hotel with 3 nights alerted by this fire alarm. Firemen are called by this fire alarm to the hotel for demostration.
Thank you very much."
"We had a wonderful 3-night stay at Courtyard by Marriott Edinburgh! The location is ideal, within walking distance to key attractions like Calton Hill, Princes Street, and the Royal Mile, yet tucked away just enough to offer a quiet, restful atmosphere.
The room was clean, modern, and well-equipped for a comfortable stay. We especially appreciated the comfortable bed and spacious layout, which made it easy to relax after a day of exploring the city.
The staff were friendly, professional, and always ready to assist, from smooth check-in to helpful recommendations on places to visit and eat. The overall service was consistent and welcoming throughout our stay."
"Very friendly staff. Location is pretty central and near to main attractions and food places. Facilities are new and clean. Good spread of breakfast buffet. Very comfortable stay."
"The location is superb, almost within walking distance of Edinburgh's attractions.
The rooms were very clean, with excellent, distinctly British decor.
The old-fashioned windows offered stunning street views.
Check-in and check-out were self-service. There's a quiet lounge in the lobby, discreetly located, where you can enjoy complimentary snacks.
Security deserves high praise: the main door has a keypad, and you need a card to enter the floors and rooms!
⚠️The only drawback is the poor soundproofing! It was especially noisy on our first night, around midnight, with a group of drunk men shouting and making a racket, disrupting our sleep!"
"I stayed at A&O Edinburgh Hostel during my trip to Edinburgh and had a solid experience overall. The location is excellent — right in the city center, within walking distance of the Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle, and plenty of pubs and restaurants.
The hostel itself is clean, and relaxing after a day of exploring. The staff were helpful and friendly, but it took a while to check-in.
Rooms were basic but comfortable, especially considering the affordable price. Bathrooms were shared but well-maintained.
If you’re a budget traveler looking for a central, convenient place to stay in Edinburgh without fuss, A&O is a good choice. Just be prepared for the usual hostel vibe—shared spaces and some noise.
Would definitely consider staying here again!"
"The hotel boasts an excellent location, right on Victoria Street, making it incredibly convenient to visit The Elephant House and shop for Harry Potter merchandise. We also enjoyed what we believe were the best fried noodles in Edinburgh at Mussel, the seafood restaurant located directly opposite. The room itself was larger than anticipated, and I particularly appreciated the bathroom having a bathtub – perfect for a relaxing soak after a long day of city walking!"

Great
YYunduanderizi21A very traditional, elegant, ancient and solemn hotel, the overall feeling is very good!
The location is very convenient. After exiting the Waverley train station, you can reach the hotel in less than 5 minutes on foot. The entrance is very eye-catching. It's just a big uphill walk, and it will be a bit strenuous if you push a large piece of luggage. It only takes 20 minutes to walk from the hotel to the castle.
The hotel lobby is very traditional, and the characteristic bonfire hall seems to have entered Santa Claus's home. The lady at the front desk is very enthusiastic and introduced the various facilities in the room in detail. Because Scotland is still quite cold, I didn't feel it when I turned on the heating in the room to the maximum. In the morning, a traditional English breakfast on the first floor of the hotel is absolutely amazing. There is a western restaurant with candlelight dinner next to the hotel, where you can enjoy a sweet world for two! 😍😍

GGuest UserAmazing staff. Friendly people and always addressed me as sir even though I am really young. That was really professional of them. One of the persons was an elderly man and he addressed me as sir even though I am wayyyy younger than him. That was really nice and humble of him. Truly appreciate it.
Breakfast was amazing. Lots of food choices and tasty food. Location is brilliant. The room I had was overlooking princes street and the view was amazing. The room was also very clean and well maintained.
Perhaps the only thing that can be improved is ventilation in the bathroom as there was no extractor fan (or maybe I didn’t know how to use it xd) the air conditioning too kept turning off after every 45 mins which was slightly annoying but the hotel had provided me with a fan in my room so no major issues anyway.
Overall it was a great experience and would definitely recommend

GGuest UserThe hotel's location near the train station is a huge plus, making transport incredibly convenient. We received attentive service, and the breakfast was quite good. However, Google Maps gave misleading directions, which led me to carry my luggage up five flights of stairs. It turns out there's an elevator, but it's not clearly marked with the hotel's logo, making it challenging for first-time visitors to find.

GGuest UserThe overall performance of the hotel is a bit over the average level. The most satisfactory point of it is the location. It is very convenient for the guests to wander about the old castle area. They can go to the sightseeing attraction and to the tourist information centre easily. There are also different kinds of restaurants. So people have wider choices to choose their meals.

EEsraThe building was good and the view was great; it was the best part of staying this hotel. Unfortunately room service was so bad. We stayed there 4nights; first we thought maybe they just hovered the room because the room wasn’t cleaned. Next day it was same so I told it to reception and then finally next day they cleaned it.. but again it wasn’t a full cleaning (they didn’t hover or clean the dust; just tidy the room and clean bathroom) So I can say room cleaning service is a disaster. But I also want to add reception stuff were helpful and friendly. Last thing hotel needs a quick make up; especially bathrooms are very old.

GGuest UserThe time required to walk from the train station to the hotel is about 20 mins.
There are some stores near the hotel.
There are 2 floors for the hotel. We live in a room on the 1st floor. The size is decent and the equipment is sufficient. However, the window is at the height of a peoples's head. The people outside can easily look into the room and privacy is a issue.
Also, there are some problems in the bathroom. The light in the bathroom is automatic and this is a disadvantage. When I sit on the toilet, the sensor in the bathroom cannot detect my movement and will turn the light off every minute. It will be a lot better if I can switch the lights on manually. Also, the method of changing the temperature of the shower is very unhuman.
Overall, it is a fine aparthotel but there are some problems

GGuest UserThe room was much better than expected, clean and comfortable. Self-service check-in and check-out were quick and convenient. If you don't know how to use it, you can call and ask for patient guidance. If you don't know how to use the access control, you can ask the staff. The location is far from the city center and various attractions, about 30 minutes walk, but you can take the bus.
In summary, it is still a good choice. After all, hotels in Edinburgh are crazy expensive. I will stay in this hotel again.
