Property Description
The Witchery by the Castle offers a range of opulent suites in Edinburgh, each one unique with its own special features.
Lavishly furnished suites display gothic touches, with large oak beds and 4-posters, velvet-lined walls and flamboyant red and gold décor indicative of the style. There are separate seating areas and large bathrooms with free-standing silver baths.
Each of The Witchery’s 9 suites is different, but walk-in dressing rooms, love seats and tapestries set the tone. Some rooms overlook Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, looking down towards Princes Street, or across to the old town.
An indulgent breakfast hamper will be served in the room each morning or guests can choose to have a cooked breakfast served in the restaurant at no extra cost.
The Witchery’s seductive glamor has caught the attention of The Times, The Telegraph and Condé Nast Traveler, and many celebrity fans have enjoyed its suites. The impressive restaurant also showcases fine Scottish dishes in similarly decadent surroundings.

The Witchery has been on my bucket list for a long time. Imagine my delight when my husband booked it to celebrate my milestone birthday. We stayed in The Old Rectory and oh my, it exceeded all expectations ( and I had a lot). The decor, ambience, comfort, luxury, extra touches, staff, food , chaiffeur - everything was amazing. I have absolutely no suggestions for improvement, and cant wait to return to try another room. 100% recommend to all lovers of magical and romantic one of a kind experiences.

My wife and I stayed at The Witchery in the Turret suite for our wedding weekend and the hospitality and warmth offered could not have have been more perfect. The food was delicious and the staff were so kind to make sure we had everything we needed. It should also go without saying that the setting was beautiful and decorated to perfection. We will definitely be coming back again!

From the moment we stepped through the gothic doors of The Witchery, it felt like entering another world. We stayed in the Inner Sanctum, and words can hardly do it justice. The room was even more breathtaking in person than the photos could ever suggest. Every corner glowed with candlelight and character, creating an atmosphere that was both luxurious and intimate. The service was flawless, with staff who struck the perfect balance between professional and warm. Dinner in the dining room was a highlight of our trip, with each dish beautifully crafted and every sip of wine perfectly paired. It was so exceptional that we lingered long after dessert just to soak in the ambiance. If you’re looking for a truly unforgettable stay in Edinburgh, a place that feels part fairytale and part secret hideaway, The Witchery delivers. It’s more than a hotel—it’s an experience.

I stayed five nights in the Sempill Suite, and it felt like living in a gothic fairytale. Velvet, candlelight, gold, and history wrapped around us like a dream. Every room feels like a secret, every corner curated with intention and romance. The staff were warm and intuitive. Breakfast felt like a private ritual, and dinner was unforgettable. By the end, the room felt like its own character in our magical trip. I already miss it.

We are just back from stay at The Witchery, we stayed in the Turret Suite, we only stayed one night and sure made the best of every minute, the suite itself takes you back in History I genuinely felt like a princess. We arrived 2 hours early and luckily the suite was ready, and we got to check in early. The two ladies at the front desk were lovely, wishing me a happy 50th birthday this was the reason we booked. Our cases were taken the room while they checked everything was ok. The 46 spiralling steps up to the turret suite just added to this magical experience. We were shown around the suite and then left to get used to our surroundings and take it all in. It was jaw dropping. We are just a normal couple who have never ever spent anywhere near what we did for a night away but it was a special occasion and a bucket list tick ✅ we never felt out our comfort zone or looked down on the staff were amazing. My first stop was to get in that amazing bath! Yes there is plenty room for 2. We only nipped out once and while we were out the turndown service had restocked and turned down our bed and set the mood for nighttime. We actually ordered in a pizza from pizza express later on at night when we both feeling slightly peckish. The whole stay was out of this world. It’s only fair that I add things that was less than perfect but I’ve not taken down my rating because for us it was a truly unforgettable stay. So the toilet I felt just looked out of place just a box standard toilet with black seat than I felt didn’t fit in with any of the decor, even a nicer toilet seat would change that. The double shower if your using the two then the water pressure is basically a drip and the Side Jets were useless they were less than a drip, and if you turned it to jets only the right side one just went thru the hole in the glass door and soaked the floor, but again it hasn’t made me take the ratings down because of the whole experience. We didn’t hear much noise from outside and it was quite busy with it being Easter weekend. We could hear the bagpipes if we left the shower door open which was lovely if it’s not your thing just keep the door closed. We were warm the whole time, you can control the heating in the rooms which is a nice touch. Two smart tvs and an Alexa which had lovely music playing when we arrived and then I changed to the brigerton soundtrack and I truly felt I was in that time! We chose to have our breakfast in the dining room, which was first class, the man (sorry I didn’t get your name) was lovely and nothing was a bother, we didn’t ask for anything extra but I overheard others and he was very attentive. One tip do not book thru a third party, I believe if you book direct you get champagne in the room, which we didn’t get despite paying just under £1000 for the room, hubby had panicked after book it or else I would love to go back maybe for my 60th and if we don’t get back then I have this wonderful memory that will last forever!

Went here for dinner. Very cool atmosphere, dimly lit. We started with drinks - my husband had the Rob Roy and I had the Royal G and T. Both were very good. I started with the bisque and my husband had the mushroom haggis. Both excellent. Here is where things became annoying. There was a huge wait time between the appetizer and main course. I’m talking like 40 minutes. This was beginning to cause me some anxiety - not because I had a hard time waiting - but because the reservation confirmation made it quite clear what time we would be expected to vacate our table. We expressed our concern and some behind the scenes discussions apparently took place whereby we were eventually told we could stay through dessert. Anyway, it took the J out of the Joy. Not sure I would return.
