Each of The Witchery’s 9 suites is different, but walk-in dressing rooms, love seats and tapestries set the tone. Some rooms overlook Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, looking down towards Princes Street, or across to the old town.
An indulgent breakfast hamper will be served in the room each morning or guests can choose to have a cooked breakfast served in the restaurant at no extra cost.

We are just back from stay at The Witchery, we stayed in the Turret Suite, we only stayed one night and sure made the best of every minute, the suite itself takes you back in History I genuinely felt like a princess. We arrived 2 hours early and luckily the suite was ready, and we got to check in early. The two ladies at the front desk were lovely, wishing me a happy 50th birthday this was the reason we booked. Our cases were taken the room while they checked everything was ok. The 46 spiralling steps up to the turret suite just added to this magical experience. We were shown around the suite and then left to get used to our surroundings and take it all in. It was jaw dropping. We are just a normal couple who have never ever spent anywhere near what we did for a night away but it was a special occasion and a bucket list tick ✅ we never felt out our comfort zone or looked down on the staff were amazing. My first stop was to get in that amazing bath! Yes there is plenty room for 2. We only nipped out once and while we were out the turndown service had restocked and turned down our bed and set the mood for nighttime. We actually ordered in a pizza from pizza express later on at night when we both feeling slightly peckish. The whole stay was out of this world. It’s only fair that I add things that was less than perfect but I’ve not taken down my rating because for us it was a truly unforgettable stay. So the toilet I felt just looked out of place just a box standard toilet with black seat than I felt didn’t fit in with any of the decor, even a nicer toilet seat would change that. The double shower if your using the two then the water pressure is basically a drip and the Side Jets were useless they were less than a drip, and if you turned it to jets only the right side one just went thru the hole in the glass door and soaked the floor, but again it hasn’t made me take the ratings down because of the whole experience. We didn’t hear much noise from outside and it was quite busy with it being Easter weekend. We could hear the bagpipes if we left the shower door open which was lovely if it’s not your thing just keep the door closed. We were warm the whole time, you can control the heating in the rooms which is a nice touch. Two smart tvs and an Alexa which had lovely music playing when we arrived and then I changed to the brigerton soundtrack and I truly felt I was in that time! We chose to have our breakfast in the dining room, which was first class, the man (sorry I didn’t get your name) was lovely and nothing was a bother, we didn’t ask for anything extra but I overheard others and he was very attentive. One tip do not book thru a third party, I believe if you book direct you get champagne in the room, which we didn’t get despite paying just under £1000 for the room, hubby had panicked after book it or else I would love to go back maybe for my 60th and if we don’t get back then I have this wonderful memory that will last forever!

Went here for dinner. Very cool atmosphere, dimly lit. We started with drinks - my husband had the Rob Roy and I had the Royal G and T. Both were very good. I started with the bisque and my husband had the mushroom haggis. Both excellent. Here is where things became annoying. There was a huge wait time between the appetizer and main course. I’m talking like 40 minutes. This was beginning to cause me some anxiety - not because I had a hard time waiting - but because the reservation confirmation made it quite clear what time we would be expected to vacate our table. We expressed our concern and some behind the scenes discussions apparently took place whereby we were eventually told we could stay through dessert. Anyway, it took the J out of the Joy. Not sure I would return.

This place is incredible. The decor, theme, and overall presentation is the most unique I have seen at a hotel. We stayed 5 nights in the Library Suite and were very pleased with our experience. Room: the Library Suite was very comfortable and the decor really played into the ‘hidden library’ theme. All of the doors are false bookshelves and the room is decorated with books and documents throughout. The bed is a queen and very comfortable. The bathroom is split between two rooms: one has the toilet and a sink and the other has a very nice bathtub with a shower and another sink. The bathtub was great for relaxing after some long days of climbing the hills of Edinburgh. The room also has a dining area with a very nice table where we had breakfast delivered every morning. Location: If you’re in Edinburgh to see and do things on the Royal Mile; it would be hard to find a better location than The Witchery. It is located literally at the foot of Edinburgh Castle which makes getting to the castle and other nearby landmarks a very easy/short walk. The only downside to the location is that since it’s right at the foot of the castle; it’s nearly at the top of the steep hill that is the Royal Mile. Getting to tours and attractions is easy since is a quick downhill walk to most things. But the walk back up the hill at the end of the day can be a little challenging. Restaurant: We had dinner one night at the on-site restaurant and it was incredible. The dining area is small and very intimate with a low ceiling and lots of candlelight. The drinks were excellent, I would highly recommend the Blood and Sand. The food was likewise exceptional, making our dinner there the best we had during our week in Edinburgh. Be aware that there is somewhat of a dress code, but I was allowed in wearing khakis and a polo shirt. Service: the staff at The Witchery are simply outstanding. Anything we needed they accomplished quickly. This ranged from getting our bags in and out of the room (up and down a small spiral staircase) to arranging transportation to the airport at the end of our stay. Whatever you need, the staff are ready and able to help. Overall, I cannot recommend this place enough. If you’re going to in Edinburgh for a couple days, do yourself a favor and spend a couple nights at the Witchery.

This is just the most exciting hotel - fun, historic, decadent luxury. Each of their rooms make you feel like the star of the greatest costume drama. But be warned- it does involve winding turret staircases, 4 poster beds that need the steps to climb in and deep slipper baths…..and you’ll need deep pockets. The memories will last a lifetime

I was so excited to take my partner here as I had been here before and had an amazing dinner. This time, however we were a wee bit disappointed. I had made these reservations months ago and was quite bothered by the fact that we were in a smaller room rather than the gorgeous larger room below. While the service was good, the food was really disappointing. His halibut was overcooked and my duck was somewhat chewy. Just sad that it wasn’t as good as I remembered it.

I still can taste the phenomenal beef dish I had and remember the great ambiance and servers. I loved this restaurant as part of my trip to Scotland. It is a class act.
