We only stayed one night as we transited through Edinburgh on the way to London . We normally like more room than a hotel offers so look for suites or apartments. I searched the internet and the Edinburgh City Suites seemed to meet our needs, however the reality was quite different. In communicating with the property group I was left to feel it was all about their rules and I as a paying guest was considered secondary. I was informed the apparently mandatory deposit of £100 for damages or breakages was paramount to completing the booking, we were travelling on a cruise and were informed by email that our payment hadn’t gone through 14 days before checking in, though the payment for the actual room night had been taken , but as we had not paid an additional fee of the £100 we would not be given the access codes to enter the suite. I was left with the feeling it was all about the money and not the experience of the paying guest but without the guest in a customer service industry you have no business. We have been asked for a deposit on occasions at some properties upon check in, NOT 14 days prior when the room night had been taken, I understand their business model is not to have a reception at the property but this then becomes a concern to the customer. They appear to take NO risk and put this entirely on the paying guest. I continued to communicate with the office staff and there appeared to me to be no leeway to our situation, being we were travelling on a ship and had sporadic internet access and were very suspicious of links to make payment. I actually explained to the office staff of my concern and all they could do was respond that the link was legitimate and unless we paid we would not be able to gain access to the property even though we had already paid for the one nights accommodation. I am extremely disappointed in their attitude and as a very experienced traveller I have, until this situation, never encountered such a negative experience. Therefore I cannot recommend this property or company being Corstorphine Hotels and Apartments and would never consider dealing with them again. The suite was in need of a refurbishment and clearly not designed to consider all demographics. The paint work was in desperate need of maintenance and some of the skirting boards were coming away from the wall. We are experienced travellers in our early 60s and everything in this particular property required low level access and was very compact with no apparent design to ergonomics. The quality of the available snack/refreshments were in our experience inferior as they were only sachets of Nescafé and pods of UHT milk, no coffee machine or complimentary bottle of wine. The amount charged for the night’s accommodation was not inconsiderable and access to the suite was not available until 3pm although this was made clear to us, however we had many experiences with other properties where we were fortunate enough to be able to access the suite before that

Please don’t waste your money staying here. We arrived a bit early so were told to come back at check in time, fair enough. No where to store luggage.. had to leave it pretty much in the doorway (unsecured) while we went for a wander. The one member of staff was nice enough but the check in process is very long, looks like it’s all done through WhatsApp on a mobile phone. We stayed in one of the rooms in the basement which you have to walk down very slippery/unsafe steps outside to get to. The rooms are far too close together, you can hear everything coming from the room across from you. The shower drain was blocked so you couldn’t shower for too long or the bathroom would have flooded. There was stains on the only tea towel provided, looked like curry. The bed was the most uncomfortable thing I have ever lay down on - it was like lying on a slab of concrete. No other staff was present for our whole stay. You need about 3 different codes just to get into your room which is a farce. Stains on the walls, dated bed sheets, pillows were flat and looked liked they’d been there for the last 40 years. There was a small tv which kept buffering. The temperature in the room was too hot for us but there is a huge sign saying not to adjust the heating on the boiler or charges will apply. Location isn’t even that great. Definitely will not be back and would highly suggest you find somewhere else to stay if visiting Edinburgh.

Great location. Studio apartment was clean and tidy with everything we needed, plus lovely and warm with the heating on intermittently day and night. Ignore the bad reviews, this is perfect for a few nights stay in the city. No its not luxurious but would stay here again.

We were unable to access the building as we did not have code for the key pads. Eventually got in by another couple who were emailed the codes before their visit. Nobody in reception and nobody answering the phone number. Another 3 couples arrived with the same problem, all, like us, having booked through ***********. Eventually one of the couples got an answer to his phone call where he was given the code to his room. He kindly offered the rest of us his phone to get our codes. We got ours and went in to find the room already occupied! So we had the code for another’s room! Eventually got it sorted and got into the right room. Never again. Talk about stress!!

Good location. If you dont mind hair, fat, fluff, or mouldy bed sheets and yellowy quilts and pillows, this could be a nice suite to stay. We were absolutely disgusted and booked another hotel last minute. I have contacted the customer service who did not even apologise but blamed us we did not give them the chance to sort the issues. Bear in mind they sent their reply only the next day.

Not great tbh....with just an interior door between 'suites' I could hear every word, just thankful it was only loud talking and laughter till the small hours......could have been a lot worse. Bed linen was well past it's best which felt unwashed. I wouldn't be staying here again.

Not a bad spot, easily accessible from haymaket and a very clean building (smelt of bleach a little). The rooms were quite big but being an old converted house you heard doors slamming shut all night and the bed was really not comfortable and too small for two people averaging 6ft tall. Not bad, wouldn’t stay more than a couple of nights.

Where to start.. Although the apartments are in an ideal location for a weekend trip to Edinburgh, they were awful and not worth the money. If only we had booked the Premiere inn next door! We had the 2 bedroom apartment in the basement and the supposed ‘superior’ suite upstairs. The basement aprt wasn’t horrible but also not great. It was some what clean overall but alot of the cutlery was marked and the cutlery drawer was full of dirt and crumbs. Also, the stairs down to it are dangerous as they’re really slippery when wet. Our main issue was the upstairs aprt which was not superior in any sense! Nothing felt clean like you would expect. The bathroom was TINY! With no towel rail even though a sign on the wall asks you to hang clean towels! The water in the shower didn’t drain to the point where you had to turn the shower off half way through to let it drain otherwise it would spill over the edge. The pillows on the bed were disgusting!!! They were flat and had clearly been used for years. There were spare pillows in the wardrobe but these were just as bad and because they didn’t have a case on them you could see just how disgusting they were by the discoloured marks on them. In the aprt we had an adjoining door within the bedroom and it’s safe to say this door clearly led either straight into the bathroom in the next door aprt or just outside of it as when our delightful neighbours came home screaming and shouting at 3:30am we could hear them using the toilet very clearly, as if they were in the same room as us. There is absolutely no soundproofing and we had the worst nights sleep! There’s a note about noise levels during 10pm-7am but this is clearly not adhered to or managed in any way. To summarise, this was a horrible place to stay and I would not recommend to anyone! Going by the responses from management to other reviews I’m sure this will make no difference to them but hopefully it’ll make others think twice before booking!

This is dreadful accommodation, when we entered at 16:00 there was no heating or hot water on a freezing February day. It took until 23:30 to resolve and fix the the issue, and even after that the shower and radiators never got above lukewarm. When my wife rang the manager to complain he was arrogant, rude, ****** and dismissive, and would not accept any responsibility or liability. We later in the week found a large gap at the bottom of one of the windows, through which a cold draft was flowing. We again complained and the maintenance person merely stuffed it with a towel (it was that big) as it couldn't be fixed immediately. My wife suffered a severe cold and our grandson was unwell, it cost a fortune in OTC medication to treat and it spoilt our half term break to Edinburgh. In addition the floor is covered in linoleum and I suspect that this hides a lot of issues as it sagged alarmingly in places. The cleanliness was also not great.
