We had a great time staying at the Gifford House. It’s located within walking distance from the Royal Mile (you have to walk about a mile, but the bus stop is also right across the street). Just far enough to be quiet at night, but accessible to some of the main attractions. Josh and his brother reached out to us and communicated throughout our stay to make sure we were comfortable. It’s a self check in but the photos and the instructions for accessing the building and the room are spot on. We liked the decor and the cleanliness of our room (room 4). The supplied drinks in the mini fridge are a small thing that make a big difference in impressions of the stay. Hot water and shower flow were great! Rooms were quiet - I never heard any neighbors at all. (Possibly we got lucky with the co-habitants?). I also think the well-padded carpet throughout keeps the sound of footsteps to a minimum. I’m a light sleeper but inhabitant noise was never an issue which I appreciated greatly. Highly recommend making this your home base next time you visit Edinburgh. It’s a beautiful city with friendly, welcoming inhabitants. Gifford House is no exception.

We booked a room for 2 nights in Gifford House. It turned out to be on the top floor. The room was hot, the beds uncomfortable, the bathroom small and the overall vibe very much dated. The price on the other hand was quite steep. We will avoid staying here in future unless there are no other options available.

The hosts, David and Margaret were really lovely. The home is beautiful, clean and conveniently located. Breakfast was really good too. It was a very nice stay, and if we are ever returning to Edinburgh, we will be back.

We had a very pleasant stay at the Gifford House last week. The owners David and Margaret made us feel at home. The B&B has tidy and spacious rooms, excellent full breakfast and is a five minute walk from the city bus stop. The owners went above and beyond by arranging for cabs, allowing us to store our luggage while we took a bus tour of the Highlands and providing us with excellent directions. We would recommend this property for anyone who wants to stay close to Edinburgh, but not in the noisy busy city center. Thanks for a wonderful stay-Mark and Dorothy

Our hosts were very kind and wonderful. They went out of their way to help us get our bag that British Airways had misplaced. They were also very helpful with giving us locations for dinner and directions to the various attractions we visited. The location was very good with a beautiful view of Arthur's Seat from our room. It was a bit of a ways away from the Royal Mile, but we had no problem getting around. It was only a 30 minute walk to the Royal Mile, and there was a very convenient bus system just steps away from the Gifford House. The breakfasts were excellent, made with fresh, local ingredients. o

Such a lovely bed and breakfast with super friendly and kind owners. Breakfast was amazing and the bedroom was spacious and beautiful. We are a family of 4 with kids ages 9 and 14. It is a 30 minute walk to the royal mile, but there are buses that run if you are wanting to get there quicker. Nice quiet street and had a wonderful time!

What a GREAT place, with wonderful hosts. Everything was ideal. The rooms were well appointed, clean, and a good size. The breakfasts were everything we could have asked for. They even went out of their way to accommodate a member of our party with food sensitivities. Margaret and David were beyond fantastic as hosts, and were super helpful throughout our stay. The only real downside to the place was parking, but we managed to overcome that difficulty. In spite of the parking, we would stay there again and again, given the opportunity.

This was a very comfortable room sized well for our needs and it we had a very nice view 3 floors up on the quiet side of the Victorian B&B. The breakfast choices were just fine and I loved the perfectly done multigrain toast. The bed was a king and that was a very pleasant surprise as I wasn't necessarily expecting that and it was very comfortable. The bathroom's shower is a little snug to get in and out of, but otherwise worked well as it is electrically operated in terms of hot and cold water and could be depended upon for a hot shower. The reason this is a 4 instead of a 5 is that logistically, there were probably a flight too many stairs for my personal comfort. I probably should have requested a room on the 2nd floor.
