Great hotel and perfect location if you want to climb Skiddaw. The staff were excellent and very friendly. They went beyond their responsibilities to make my stay even better than it already was. Can’t thank them enough. Thank you all for great weekend stay.

When we booked it wasn't noted that the hotel was being refurbished so it was a surprise and disappointment to find no dining or breakfast facilities. The rest of the hotel also looked very bare and soulless and the only welcoming feature was the receptionist, she was great and gets 10 stars. For a hotel that's main feature is airport parking the car park is in complete darkness which in a country setting makes it very very dark and we struggled to see where we were walking. Sadly these major issues focus your attention to everything and so you really notice all the other little faults like no plug in the sink. The place should be closed during refurbishment and opened with full facilities.

Didn't even stay! You will get a far better price to stay at this hotel if you book via an on line travel agent, customer service from surya hotels is shocking! Information given via on line chat completely incorrect too. Avoid booking here, very disappointing not

Needing an overnight stay in a hotel close to Stansted Airport I found this hotel online and booked the hotel Great Hallingbury Manor, Bishop Stortford that is very close to the airport. I booked online with Surya Hotels the owners as the rate was more favourable than the booking with comparison sites but no cancellation or refund was allowed. After booking and paying for it I visited the review sites (I know this is not the right way round or the wisest way to read the reviews first!)  I then read all the negative and bad reviews so after reading these I became very concerned about what staying there was going to be like, but I can only speak as I find and  I can our one night stay was very pleasant indeed. The hotel setting was a country park type with a lake. There is indeed close flying aircraft noise as the hotel is on the incoming flight path but in all honesty, what do you expect at a major airport hotel and the flights do stop at about 1 am. The room was well-insulated and double-glazed. We had a superior room in one of the wings and our room was very spacious and clean with a very comfortable bed and the usual hotel room facilities kettle with tea and coffee was provided. There was a good size TV on the wall two relaxing chairs and a table. The on-suite bathroom was large and very well designed and I would say recently refitted with a great walk-in shower. There were good quality clean towels and soap and shampoo provided. Overall nothing one could complain about. The room was offered at a fair price in comparison with other branded hotels in the area. It is true to say there is a large investment by the owners is currently underway in refurbishing and upgrading the hotel communal areas like the restaurant and bar so you need to be prepared to eat out and there is no breakfast service at present but they told us that at booking. Why so many people have written so many bad reviews I don’t understand as our experience was totally different and very acceptable. There is just one issue you need to take care of and that is the on-site parking as it is included as part of the booking but it is managed and monitored by an outside parking control company as they also offer airport parking packages. So the car park is policed and inspected by the management company but when you check in reception will register your car with the company (make sure they do) and they also gave us an identifiable ticket to display inside the vehicle to be visible at all time you are parked on site. The big question with any hotel review is would you stay there again? And the answer is YES we would.

I had a lodge room, one of the newer rooms I was told and it did feel very new and was modern, tasteful and spacious. However considering how new it was there was absolutely no soundproofing from the planes constantly taking off and landing through the night. I only managed to sleep because I fortunately took my AirPods, thank goodness!

Would not recommend to anyone! Don't be fooled by the beautiful surroundings and marketing images. I could not sleep at all due to being placed in room 31 at the very far end of the hotel with road traffic noise, single glazed windows, a TV from the 90s that kept crashing and the room was absolutely boiling. We couldnt open the windows as the handle fell off as soon as we touched it! The plane noise we expected, but it got louder as the evening went on, this combined with the road traffic noise, the banging of doors from other guests ect I had no sleep for my flight the next morning. This hotel could be beautiful if they employed a decent cleaner. There were splatters of god knows what all up the dated curtains. The floors were dusty and there was mould in the bathroom. The tea and coffee station was lacking with only 2 teabags offered and 2 coffee sachets. So much potential for this hotel, but they really need to invest in a decent cleaner and better windows. The guy on reception was helpful in booking a taxi

We booked the hotel as an extra through TUI, as we wanted an airport hotel as well as parking. When we arrived, we were very impressed with the way the hotel looked, and were very excited to be staying somewhere other than Premier Inn before our early morning flight. The gentleman that checked us in was very eccentric; he mentioned we were taking the car to the airport in the morning. We told him this was wrong and we were planning on leaving the car, he looked back at his computer and rectified his colleagues mistake immediately and explained how the parking worked. He also saw we had two huge suitcases and changed our room to one on the ground floor. We stayed in Room 61, which was across the road from reception in a separate building. The room was small, but had a slight walkway which meant we could put our suitcases there while we relaxed for the evening. The bed was comfortable, and there was a small desk in the corner with a hospitality tray. The bathroom was spacious, though my husband and I did have difficulty using the shower, and actually both were taken aback by scolding hot water with no idea how to cool it down! I found the room very cold, however, the radiator in the room when turned on quickly warmed up the room. The hotel is located basically at the end of the runway of Stansted, which is obvious if you look at a map, so of course there is noise from the planes taking off, though I personally loved this and annoyed my husband all night looking up where the planes were going to. Though I believe through the night there was significantly less noise from planes. Also the hotel website clearly states that there is currently no food and beverage due to the refurbishment, though I believe I did see a small few bits for sale behind reception if you needed anything. We checked out at around 4am to get our early flight, there was no one there to hand our keys to, only a hastily written note that the receptionist/porter was on a walk around, which perhaps could have been a printed sign to look more professional? But this is just personal opinion from being in the industry. I was dreading staying at the hotel after looking at the reviews. However, there was very little to fault with the hotel. If people just did a bit of research before booking and managed their expectations, I’m sure there would be fewer complaints.

This place is the worst hotel in the world , where do I start , booked in and stupidly I didn’t see it’s under construction as I booked through booking . Com , it’s an utter skip rat pss hole , no bar , no wifi no restaurant, place feels like it’s falling apart , I sadly booked 2 nights and stayed 10 minutes , asked for a glass for the room for water , they said no sorry nothing , no wifi , room was disgusting, blood on the floor in bathroom , bed was one of the 70s spring loaded beds nothing separating me and iron coils , couldn’t get a refund as they have a policy regardless of how. Bad it is , avoid this place it’s totally unfit for guests , also no double glazing and it’s literally at the end of stansted run way so the place noise gives you tooth ache , the worst hotel literally in the world
