We booked the hotel as an extra through TUI, as we wanted an airport hotel as well as parking. When we arrived, we were very impressed with the way the hotel looked, and were very excited to be staying somewhere other than Premier Inn before our early morning flight. The gentleman that checked us in was very eccentric; he mentioned we were taking the car to the airport in the morning. We told him this was wrong and we were planning on leaving the car, he looked back at his computer and rectified his colleagues mistake immediately and explained how the parking worked. He also saw we had two huge suitcases and changed our room to one on the ground floor. We stayed in Room 61, which was across the road from reception in a separate building. The room was small, but had a slight walkway which meant we could put our suitcases there while we relaxed for the evening. The bed was comfortable, and there was a small desk in the corner with a hospitality tray. The bathroom was spacious, though my husband and I did have difficulty using the shower, and actually both were taken aback by scolding hot water with no idea how to cool it down! I found the room very cold, however, the radiator in the room when turned on quickly warmed up the room. The hotel is located basically at the end of the runway of Stansted, which is obvious if you look at a map, so of course there is noise from the planes taking off, though I personally loved this and annoyed my husband all night looking up where the planes were going to. Though I believe through the night there was significantly less noise from planes. Also the hotel website clearly states that there is currently no food and beverage due to the refurbishment, though I believe I did see a small few bits for sale behind reception if you needed anything. We checked out at around 4am to get our early flight, there was no one there to hand our keys to, only a hastily written note that the receptionist/porter was on a walk around, which perhaps could have been a printed sign to look more professional? But this is just personal opinion from being in the industry. I was dreading staying at the hotel after looking at the reviews. However, there was very little to fault with the hotel. If people just did a bit of research before booking and managed their expectations, I’m sure there would be fewer complaints.
