On a day when the stair-rod rain and chilling mist penetrated even the hardiest souls, we needed comfort and inspiration to make a success of our Valentine’s Day lunch. Fortunately we were headed to Michael Caines’ Lympstone Manor. Our reward was another outstanding meal, perhaps our most enjoyable yet, at this gem of a venue perched above the Exe valley in the rolling Devon countryside. Four immaculate courses, the highlight being an outrageously succulent Beef Wellington with an immaculate supporting cast of a much needed warming curried carrot soup, a beetroot gravalax melange, and a choice of eye-candy finales, one of which, my chocolate and orange mousse, redefined dessert indulgence. Should anyone reading this remain oblivious to the joy that awaits at Lympstone I can only suggest you rectify this omission asap. Well done, once more, and congrats to Michael and the team.
