We have just had a few days mini moon, gifted to us after our wedding, at The Townhouse. Not knowing what to expect, we ended up having the perfect few days here. Paid parking over the road cost us £31 for 3 days. Pay for the hours between 8&6. We arrived a little earlier than check-in time and got a drink at the bar. The hotel is very impressive to the eye, colourful and cosy. The staff are super friendly. Wendy looked after us for most of the stay, and nothing was too much trouble. We stayed in Eden Lodge. It was small but perfectly done. The bathroom had a gorgeous big deep bath and a very powerful shower. The bed is extremely comfortable. There are plenty of pillows. Mini fridge stocked with pay as u go drinks and free bottled waters. A coffee machine. There was also a hairdryer, robes, and slippers provided, although the robes only fit up to about a size 16 comfortably, so it was not ideal if you're a bigger person but plenty of towels. Then, outside, you have a small secluded garden area surrounded by greenery and a very nice hottub for two. Considering how close to the town centre it is and the road out the front of the hotel there was no noise at all apart from birds in the trees. Very nice. We were warned the chef had gone sick, so it was a continental breakfast only, but as we didn't know what we were in for anyway, it didn't bother us, and there was still plenty of choice. Pastrys, meats. Cheese, cereal, fresh juices and fruit, toast and tea/coffee. We had some extras in the room arranged for us as newleyweds, and it was done out lovely with balloons, banners, and an ice bucket filled with cava and peroni Everything you could need was within a 15-minute stroll. We only really left the room to eat and had some lovely meals about 5 minutes walk away. Turkish meze and grill was our fave. Overall, it was an ideal mini moon. Shout out to housekeeping too because not only was she lovely, but the room was spotless. She even managed to pop in and work around all our balloons and cards, which we had on every surface in the room and we asked her if she made the bed not to make it military style and she left it just as we asked. Thank you for a lovely stay. Maria & Reanne.

Tried here for the 1st time for Sunday lunch and it was fabulous. We are creatures of habit and tend to go to the same place for Sunday lunch. So pleased we went out of our comfort zone and found The Townhouse in Durham. On arrival we were given a complimentary dish of warm pork crackling. The food was outstanding and so well cooked and presented. I had the vegetable soup to start with the tastiest homemade croutons I've ever tasted. I then had the regular beef which was so plentiful and tasty. The beef melted in the mouth and love the fact it came with cauliflower cheese at no extra cost. The vegetables and yorkshire pudding were cooked to perfection. The hubby had the large beef which was extra helpings of all of the aforementioned tasty offerings. And not forgetting the super friendly, attentive waitress who made us so welcome. I deliberately left my sunglasses on the table when I left so I can come back again next week. Highly recommend.

Very impressed by the front of house staff who were extremely friendly and welcoming. The hotel looked as though it was once very elegant and worthy of 5 stars but now needs some TLC as it is looking a little tired and in need of some of the expected finishing touches - for example fluffy towels and a selection of teas and coffee. A hairdryer in the room would have also been appreciated. It will be nice to see the renovations that the new owners has planned and we would return if these are completed to bring the hotel up to a good standard.

My room had a leak, but I was very understanding about it, despite the dehumidifier running. However, things took a turn for the worse. The receptionist was nice, but it turns out she forgot to give me details of how to enter the building after I went out to get dinner in town. When I arrived back at 10.55pm, nobody answered the out-of-hours number posted on the front door. I rang it for half an hour! I was locked out overnight, my belongings were in there and I was prevented from accessing them and sleeping there, which is not what I needed after a 6-hour journey and another the following day. I had to look elsewhere for accommodation. However, the nearest was fully booked, but I struck lucky with The City Arms at 11.40pm who were very sympathetic. An apology and a refund were offered by the receptionist in the morning with the assurance that the owner, Aristos Aristodemou, would be in touch within a few hours. He never contacted me. I rang repeatedly, and when I finally got hold of him, he refused to refund me, making a distressing situation even worse! Disgraceful treatment and dire customer service. OYO has been useless too. I will be taking this further.

I arrived to welcoming, super friendly receptionist and was instantly made to feel at home! Luckily, there were also able to offer me an upgrade on the day to the penthouse (which I would highly recommend booking - its fabulous!). After a 5 hour journey from London, the freestanding bath and delicious hot cooked breakfast in the morning were a great! Thanks to the brilliant chef, June and her lovely colleague Alex. You made this stay very special, relaxing and memorable. I felt fully recharged and rested! This boutique has a really homely feel to it and I would definitely stay again.
