I must start by saying the staff were polite and professional while being friendly. I have stayed at Lawlors many times as have many of my family over the last 40 years and it is heartbreaking to see the decline in maintenance. The public areas are still very nicely decorated and maintained. The carpark although upgraded since my last stay had a stream of rancid oil crossing the width of the carpark near the walkway to the shopping centre, this stuck to your shoes and smelt horrendous. Luckily you were unable to smell it from the garden. The garden was lovely and a great place to get together for a drink on a warm day. Now for the rooms, I was initially given a dark and dreary room with a carpet that was so dirty I couldn't take my shoes off. It was so small that the bedside tables had to be turned sideways to fit the bed in. The view from the room was of dead birds and stagnant water among a multitude of dirty pipes and tanks. There really is no excuse for this lack of maintenance. I had asked for a room with a bath but there was no bath in the room. I was told the message about the bath had not been put on the ******* booking and there were no rooms with baths available. As the room was so awful I went and sat in the garden for a while when the lovely Ohla came to find me and said they had found a room with a bath. The 2nd room was much better and there were no dead birds outside. It has been a family tradition to stay at Lawlors for decades, sadly this tradition may come to an end if there is not some general maintenance carried out.

If there was one word that could describe the hotel, it would be this: tired. The room we stayed in was ostensibly for a couple, and certainly the bed was large enough, being two twins shoved together. Mattress was lovely, the pillows just great. The bathroom was recently updated and yet there were issues. The longer we were there (and we were there for 3 days), the more we started to notice. Let's start with the first impression of the room: Entered the room and noticed a spotlight dangling from the ceiling and to the immediate left, an electrical point that had been covered in masking tape. The floor was heavily scratched, and the decor was definitely firmly in the 90s, with the predominant theme being heavy browns and beige. We asked for the light fitting to be attended to, as frankly, that was not something that we felt comfortable with, and to the credit of the front desk, they immediately offered another room. Having just unloaded everything, we demurred and just asked for it to be fixed, which it was. Maybe we should have sought another room, but the view of the harbour (via Supervalue) was pretty nice. But that turns me to the next issue: the window. Whoever had fitted the window didn't exactly do the best job, and it was clear that the framing was starting to pull away from the mounting. Give it another year and that will become a genuine danger. Talking of dangerous, the two latches that secured the window were mismatched, with the top and bottom latches having been replaced at different times, both were loose and the clip that is supposed to prevent people from throwing the window open too far didn't engage. Didn't bother me, but my wife was genuinely too unnerved to go near the window as she didn't feel safe as soon as it came to opening and closing the window to let fresh air into the room. Moving round the room, we found ourselves entranced by the electrical offerings in the room. There was a curious mix of an attempt to update (a pamphlet with a QR code for the website), stay vaguely relevant (a 20" digital TV that was connected via UHF cable) and just giving up (the hairdryers). The latter was particularly amusing, as they had a dryer wired into the wall, which sounded akin to the mufflers on the boy racers that infested the main roads of Dungarvan at night. Obviously they had picked up on this, as they had a replacement in the drawer of the vanity unit that worked. Why they hadn't just removed the defective dryer shall remain a mystery for the management to attend to. Quick note to the management: please check the power points in the room, the one by the left hand nightstand is quite loose and will at some point come away from the wall fitting. The whole room was slightly off. There was no need to have a second mirror right by the kettle, whose sole purpose appeared to have been to accumulate steam from said kettle. There was a single chair in the room for what should have been a couple's room (or at least a twin set up), meanin

We had a lovely night here on Sat Sep 13th. Our room was on the 3rd floor with a nice view of the Quays. The room was clean and spacious. Our bathroom was modern with lovely plush towels. Breakfast was lovely and there was plenty of everything. Staff were attentive we would stay here again. Great location.

2 words .. Fawlty towers!! Rooms smell and were unclean Dust and even cobwebs adorn the front potplants on windows Queued for 15 mins to get into breakfast room at 9.40am - no cutlery, no hot food left in banbaree units - no orange juice- no glasses even if there was orange juice I had to eat my cereal with a coffee spoon - poor young staff were running around trying to be as helpful as they could and all I could hear was the word ‘sorry’ (not their fault) No management present, no due care or consideration for guests- giving this hotel a 1 star is actually generous!! 150€ per night single is a travesty! I actually cannot believe there are still hotels left like this in Ireland! I stay in hotels all over Ireland 40/50 nights per year - this is I’m sorry to say the worst experience I’ve ever had! Management needs to take a long look at their business and what they are offering! I will not be back, that’s for sure

Well, it is a nice place, no doubts. But for that price, there could be a little more. Free water in the room or a special offer if you eat in the restaurant, something like that. Small fridge would have been nice, too. So in total, the room could need a little bit of modernisation, but again a nice place and a very tasty breakfast

The hotel was so central and everywhere was walking distance. The staff very very friendly and so accommodating so us. It was a really nice and friendly atmosphere to the place. We asked bar/restaurant to recommend some bars for us to go to and happily helped us. I will definitely be coming back to Dungarvan and staying in this hotel again!

Three of us spent 2 nights there recently. I will begin with the positives; the service was friendly enough. Our room was comfortable, if outdated. However, the positives were far outweighed by the negatives. The hotel is dirty - there is no other honest way to describe it, and I have photographs to prove it. We could not sit in the foyer as all the couches and armchairs were dirty, so much so that the arms were shiny with dirt. The carpets throughout were stained; badly stained in many places. Doors and walls were marked and needed cleaning. There were smells throughout that weren't fresh. The area downstairs at the toilets was particularly offensive. We did not eat a morsel in the hotel or drink a drop. We couldn't given the state of the place. The first thing that greets you when you arrive at the front door is a sign that says you have to phone the night porter if you back to the hotel at 11pm. 11pm in a town centre hotel! I have never seen it before and doesn't auger well for the rest of your visit. Avoid this hotel. It is a pity as it could be very nice and the location is ideal.
