Three of us today along with pooch Bella - for lunch. We sat in the bar/lounge and were made extremely welcome - even without a prior reservation. Anya was our waitress - what service, warmth and understanding she had for all four of us! Thank you Anya! We had two courses each and coffees to finish off with - chicken balmoral x 2 and the pork. Lovely warm plates, all freshly made and delicious veg done to a treat! Couldn’t fault it in any way. Bella was served up with a freshly cooked sausage and a side of fresh water - both very much appreciated and no sausage was left on the plate! For desserts we had 1 x mixed ice cream and 2 x raspberry crème brûlée served with home made shortbread. DE - LIC-IOUS!!! Coffees (lattes) were just perfect. So. From a 90, 70 and 60 year old clients today - we gave you a 10 out of 10. We will be back and Bella says can you have another sausage ready for her please! Thank you Garvock House Hotel. Dorothy

We attended a family funeral which had the reception at Garvock House; living 3.5 hrs drive away we decided to stay 2 nights at the hotel.
A lovely old ‘Manor House’ type of property, independently owned and run, it may seem a little old fashioned to some but we prefer that to many modern, soulless hotels. Our room (number 10) was spacious and well appointed - large wardrobe, lots of drawers (unusual in more modern hotels), a small table and armchairs, decent lighting, sufficient USB ports, an electric fan, a radiator we could control, a well stocked tea tray, and bathrobes. The room had been updated with gorgeous modern wallpaper on one wall, and soft furnishings to tone with it. The curtains in particular were heavy, quality tweed fabric with blackout/thermal lining. (Bit strange to have a mismatched dressing table chair and that both flower prints on the wall were exactly the same, but these were minor points). The bed was extremely comfortable, there was no extraneous noise from inside or outside the hotel so quiet nights sleep, the shower room well stocked with towels and quality toiletries, and lots of hot water whenever required.
From arrival to departure the staff, without exception, were courteous, helpful, attentive, smiling and friendly, and willing to help us with information on the area. Particularly in the room set aside for the reception after the funeral, the staff were quietly efficient and courteous at all times and we all felt unhurried and relaxed to be able to remember our departed family member together. The decor throughout maintained a more traditional-looking theme, the bar area had a slightly more modern look but in sympathy with the original features.
The dinners we had on both nights were well cooked and tasty - no mean feat from the kitchen when there were also business groups and a wedding on to accommodate as well. The breakfast was wonderful - spoilt for choice with a lovely array of buffet items with choices for every taste, waiting service at our table for cooked items with many options, and the tables set out beautifully with proper cutlery/china etc.
We enjoyed our stay at this hotel; initially the pricing of the room (£300 for 1 room/2 persons for 2 nights bed and breakfast in February, extra cost for dinner/drinks) was at the higher end of what we often pay to stay in a hotel, but considering the personal service and offerings and the higher expenditure all businesses have had to endure lately, we felt treating ourselves with a stay here was worth it. It was a shame the lovely reception rooms didn’t have one as a sitting room / lounge for guests to relax on soft sofas, but it seems all available spaces were utilised for larger groups dining/business meetings etc as in other 4/5 star hotels we have stayed in - understandable that this brings in more income, and the bedrooms were well appointed.
If you prefer highly modernised, sleek hotels then this one probably

Sad to say that standards have sadly dropped. Probably due to Brexit. Staff not as polished and professional. Good days are gone

Just back after a two night stay for a wedding. The service, staff and food are excellent, they are clearly well trained and standards are high. We were blessed with fab weather and having drinks on the lawn was fab. Hard to fault in any way, we will be back.
