The Fort Hotel

We stayed for two nights as a wee getaway for the annual Eid festival. Never having booked before, we were pleasantly surprised by our experiences - the staff were incredibly polite and co-operative, the food served in-house was fantastic (and classically Scottish!) and the rooms could easily put international chains to shame. This place is where I had the absolute privilege to experience some of the best en-suite showering facilities in the world, the rooms were spacious and there was an undeniable feeling of calm and luxury. The hotel also has quieter accommodation for the bookish traveller as the town can get quite lively at night. We are grateful to the staff and owners for their services during our trip and will be heading back in the future for more.

We stopped in for a lovely meal this week and we’re so glad we had found this place due to recommendations from others. The meal was delicious and the staff were so friendly and attentive. The portions were generous and accommodated all of our group. Definitely book in advance as it’s a popular spot. Will definitely return if we are in the area.

Convenient location, friendly and welcoming staff, good sized room and a great bar. Only downside was the double bed was a bit small, otherwise excellent.

I'd advise bookin. Visited the restaurant twice because we really liked it the first time. I had the Mongolian beef, it was delicious, better than my own! My daughter had the lasagne which she thoroughly enjoyed. My husband had the scampi, also delicious. Only point I'd like to make about our meals the first night, and it's not a negative point, goodness are they large portions! Well worth the money but be prepared for LARGE portions. We turned up the next evening, again with no reservation, and were initially seated in the beer garden. It was a pleasant evening so we didn't mind. Blankets are available for hire. The menu for the beer garden is smaller than the main restaurant but still varied. We had learned from the previous evening and ordered smaller portions where applicable. My Caledonia burger was cooked perfectly, everyone else's meals were equally as good. We were asked if we wanted to move inside when a table became available, we did, and the staff were great at moving our drinks and food quickly. We will definitely be back the next time we're in the area.

Great place to stay Room was lovely and the bathroom was big. Food in restaurant very good as was the service. Staff behind bar very efficient and friendly a great team! Only downside would be could be a bit noisy at night with the music from the bar if you had a room at the front of the hotel but all in all we had a great stay would definitely book again
