The room was lovely but the breakfast could have been better and there was no hot water when I took a shower around 11AM…..could’ve been that everyone else already used the hot water?

What an absolute Gem of a B&B! Tim the owner gave us our key. The building is an old Georgian style one with lovely original windows. The home is full of beautiful antiques & Irish old items. The bedroom is nicely decorated & well spaced with a nice walk in shower bathroom. It was absolutely spotless. Smart tv on the wall with WiFi so bring your own firestick if you like Internet channels. Tim brought me to the location I needed to visit in his own car (maximum respect Tim thank you)! Bed was very comfortable 👌 breakfast was a full irish served from 0730hrs onwards. Absolutely beautiful yumyums! I'd urge anyone visiting Dundalk to stay here. Tim's Daughter Helena was a great help too at breakfast & checking out time. Thank you. We will be back 5*+ !!

We were met at check in by a friendly lady who we took to be the owners daughter. Our room was 23 at very top of the house. On first appearance it seemed ok if a little basic. We then realised that the radiator’s which we assumed came on automatically later, didn’t actually come on at all. They were at the high setting and should have been hot. We found blankets in the wardrobe luckily. Two of the lightbulbs and also the bathroom extractor fan didn’t work. One of the bed coverings had a large hole through it. The inside of the bedroom door had thick layers of dust and obviously hadn’t been wiped. Our Irish breakfast was included and we looked forward to it. However we were disappointed. Tea was brought out warm at best, the sausages were tepid and extremely small. We stay in b&b’s regularly and always leave an honest, normally 5 star, review. We are not fussy people, we just expected warmth and cleanliness. A worrying issue is that the fire exit on the ground floor, at the bottom of the stairs, is blocked with large items making any escape difficult.

Glen Gat - Family B&B. It's been the business of Tim and Catherine for 32 years. Now daughter Helena joined it. Their B&B is a restored Victorian house. Each room has a unique design, and the common hall and dining room can be visited as a museum of Irish life. But what attracts and gives uniqueness is the owner of the establishment - Tim, who is known by everyone in Dundalk. He will personally make you breakfast, and chat with you on any topic and joke. If you have any problem, you can easily contact the hosts. From recommendations on where to buy swimming trunks or to repair a laptop to advice on which doctor to consult or which school to send a child to. They will not just give advice, but will also call and arrange a meeting by themselves. Or even take you with them there. If you're lucky enough to visit Glen Gat during the holidays, you can be sure that you'll be celebrating as if at home. On Easter, you will search for chocolate eggs around the hotel and receive a delicious Easter dinner. On Halloween, you will play various games: freeze dance, piñata and others. You will prepare goodies yourself and hit pinatas, and the number of sweets will exceed all your expectations. If you're lucky enough to visit Glen Gat in the summer for the Tain March Festival, Helen and Tim will take you to a fancy dress event in the centre of Dundalk. You will not just be a spectator, you will be dressed in a Viking costume, Viking symbols will be painted on your face, and you will become a participant in the event and even a bit of an actor. It is simply difficult to imagine an even greater uniqueness of hospitality.

The bed was so comfortable and the pillows, we had wonderful breakfast everyday. The staff were so helpful and friendly nothing was to much trouble for them. It’s a perfect place to stay if you are going to spend time in Dundalk or visit family. Thank you all for a very comfortable stay.

A lovely family run business, well more like staying in a family home really. I’d had a recent hospital stay nearby and was feeling the affects but I was welcomed in and looked after for a few nights. All the staff are friendly and lovely, Helena took plenty of time out of her busy schedule to have a good chat and was understanding about a problem I had (nothing to do with the accommodation). I will stay here again given the friendliness, location, warmth and breakfast. Thanks. Kieron

When we arrived our hostess showed us the dinning area said our room was upstairs. (Only interaction in 5 days!!) No sharing of info or events about town. Nothing. The carpet in our room was very dirty. Our en suite bathroom was very clean. The breakfasts were not very hot when they arrived. Tasteless watery eggs. The breakfast lady was very pleasant. The host did bring a fan and sheet when we requested it. Otherwise we were invisible to the host and hostess. Although we stayed 5 nights we did not feel welcome. In fact we felt as if we were an inconvenience.
