This place deserves to be shut down. Upon arrival .. our feet stuck to the floor it was that sticky. It was a very unwelcoming a**osphere from the first step in the door. Dark and cold.. how after being shown our room which was absolutely filthy we decided we were going to leave and find elsewhere. We said we werent happy with the room and explained it was not clean, we were in no way nasty about it. This resulted in being shouted and sworn at by the owner whilst he waved a pile of cash at us he had pulled from his pocket. He was laughing at the fact he had our money anyway! Disgusting, unprofessional attitude. Joke was on him as we later got our money going through trading standards! Doesn't even deserve 1 rating.

Arriving outside the hotel was scary , as a lone female traveller ( 60+ years) The front facade was a run down mess & there was a handwritten sign on front door asking to call a number to be let in. But once I met the very nice owner and he showed me my clean & tidy room in the labarinyth of corridors all was good. Lovely hot shower, towels, shower gel etc, tea/ coffee all available. I had a good night sleep and have no complaints.

Went with 4 friends, table had menu that was like an Echo show secured to table so one could looked at menu or two at most then swivel it round to other friends so they could look but with 5 of us it would probably take half an hour to decide and order. We asked if there were any paper menus available and told no! We all decided to leave as the place was not very friendly and hardly anyone in there so felt quite bare and uninviting. We all went round the corner to The Granary where we had a lovely meal with a nice and friendly a**osphere and helpful staff. Queensbury 0 Granary 5

I had the displeasure of stopping in this hotel for one night only, booked through the company. Really can’t believe that ********** still list this God damn awful place - room absolutely filthy especially the bath room. Toilet flush not working, shower full of mould (wouldn’t have put a dog in it), tv not working, dodgy lock - you get the drift. £100 a night for this shambles of a place. Should have checked out straightaway but my money was taken in advance. Don’t do it, you’ll definitely regret it. And not even Basil or Manuel in sight! TA you must introduce a big fat zero rating too.

The manager was very accommodating as I had booked the wrong dates. You need to let him know you’ve arrived so you can get the fob to enter. Very helpful. Rooms are spotlessly clean. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room with generous amount of tea, coffee and milk. Great location close to some great restaurants and shops. Seagulls we’re very noisy in the night. Ask for room not on Queen street. No breakfast offered but Bob and Bert’s is just around the corner opening at 8. Lots of stairs so might not be good if limited mobility.

Poor value. Just a room. No staff in the hotel. We where just given a key at a set time and that was it!! Room clean but basic. All needed redecorating, not worth the money at all. No breakfast, just tea and coffee in the room Very poor value undeed

We arrived after a complaining phone call stating the receptionist was waiting to go home! Around 30 minutes later and within our scheduled arrival time we were confronted with what looked like a derelict building. A handwritten note on the door gave a mobile number to call. After a few rings the call was re-directed. The door was opened by a tall thin dark-skinned man.

Shocking place to stay. Nothing like in the photos and the owner was very difficult to deal with. Will not be back. Could be such a nice place if managed well. Great location and the bar staff were great but the owner was so rude. Can’t recommend

This is someone’s experience On Friday, Marc Sieben, Pipe Major with the Castle Pipers from Kreis Heinsberg in Germany arrived in Dumfries to support Dumfries Pipe Band ahead of the 90th Anniversary of Guid Nychburris. Instead of receiving a warm, Doonhammer welcome when he arrived in Dumfries, Marc instead found himself literally on the street, courtesy of the Manager/ owner of the Queensberry Hotel in the town. Owing to a delay in arriving in Dumfries (caused by delays in Calais), Marc was shocked to discover that owner, Daniel Berhane had cancelled Marc’s prepaid booking for four nights and refused to allow Marc into the hotel for the remainder of his booking, telling Marc that if he wanted to stay in the hotel, he would have to re- book and pay AGAIN, with no prospect of any refund. Mark found the outside of the hotel in poor condition and the place was locked up and appeared to be closed for business. Marc contacted a band member who managed to speak to the owner on the phone, to explain the reason from Marc’s late arrival, however, instead of honouring the booking, the owner confirmed that he did not need to and that he was within his rights to keep Marc’s money and cancel the booking. Berharne was urged to reconsider, however, instead repeated that he didn’t need to do anything and invited Marc to rebook and pay for the room again, urging Marc to check his terms and conditions before hanging up. Marc, along with other band members from Germany, also booked into the hotel later in the day, were in Dumfries to help the Town celebrate the weekend. After ringing around several local guest houses and self-catering accommodations, members of the group managed to get into another hotel and Marc was invited to stay at a house in Georgetown for the weekend. Marc and other members of the group have raised a dispute with *********** complaining about the behaviour of Berharne and also the description and photos of the hotel, which appear to depict a working bar. Members of Dumfries Pipe Band thought it was right to share Marc's experience with our followers and fellow Doonhammers.
