Nice hotel, rooms immaculately clean, warm and cosy. Friendly staff, amazing breakfast selection, porridge oats, cereal, fresh fruit salad, yoghurt, open buffet full cooked breakfast available.. Wonderful hotel, highly recommended

We had booked this hotel based on reviews & have since came to the conclusion that these must have been submitted by friends & family. The hotel is run down, shabby, smelly & in dire need of either renovation or closed down. We knew this was a 3 star but this has got to be the worst 3 star we have experienced & believe me, we have stayed in many hotels in the UK. The paint on the bedroom door was so badly marked. The room was smelly, not stale, just smelly. The bedding was clean, the mattress was not! The walls must have dump or something behind it judging by the wallpaper seams. The view was of a wall! The bathroom was a dirty shower, very noisy toilet (we hadn’t even touched it let alone flush it) the toilet roll was sat on top of a very dirty & rusty radiator. When I went back into the bedroom I saw something on the floor which I killed with my shoe then we left as there was no way we were staying! My husband returned the keys to the hotel next door & explained our unhappiness to be met with ‘it is a 3 star’ Please avoid at all costs!

I have paid twice as much for hotels that are half as good. This place is an absolute gem. The room is clean, comfortable and stocked with all the amenities I could have wanted including biscuits and bottled water. The staff are friendly and helpful and the breakfast is fabulous This was booked as a cheap last minute idea to break up travelling but will definitely come back for a longer stay in the future.

The family at AtlasAdventured recommends staying here! We stayed here as a family of 3 during a short trip to Dumfries. The rooms are small, but there were two beds so it was big enough to sleep us all. Bathrooms and carpet were a little dingy, but I wouldn’t call them dirty. Just well worn. There is an armoire for storage and a kettle with tea and coffee. When checking in and out you have to go to the hotel next door to pick up/drop off your key. Complimentary breakfast buffet is also served next door. The breakfast was the highlight of our stay! Everything was hot and fresh with plenty of options. It was basically a diy full Irish Breakfast! Yogurt, granola, cereal, and toast with jam are also available, coffee, tea, and juice as well. There is parking in front of the hotel, but if there are no spaces available, you are allowed to park next door. Communication with management was good, quick responses and friendly. There are a few restaurants within walking distance, which I would highly recommend calling and making a reservation for beforehand. There are also a few take away places within walking distance, and close to the city center. We would stay here again next time we’re in Dumfries!

You have to book in at the hotel next door and get instructions on how the get your key, no staff in guest house. The room was clean but bed uncomfortable and shower was not very good, staff in hotel not friendly and the breakfast food and hot drinks were cold

I have absolutely no idea how on earth this B&B has 4.5 stars out of 5 - I’m sorry but it’s barely a 2 for me and my party. It’s very shabby and the cleanliness needs addressing - we were met with a clump of hair on the bathroom floor along with muddy marks around the doorway - mouldy shower, holes in walls, pelmets barely fixed to the walls and the list goes on. Carpet in the bedroom needs a thorough cleaning and to be honest the whole place needs some serious TLC. To add insult to injury they don’t offer breakfast before 8am on a weekend with no alternative offered so by the time we purchased breakfast that 3star B&B with 5star reviews would have been better value for money and by all accounts a lot more comfortable. Unfortunately as we were in Dumfries for work purposes we were not in a position to leave but rest assured if this booking had of been by choice we wouldn’t have stayed. We didn’t have a shower, no breakfast, and left very dissatisfied- do yourself a favour book the 5star review B&B - we most certainly won’t be returning.

I arrived tonight (01/07/2023) with my 9 year old daughter after attending a festival in the town. We had to check out, our room wasn’t fit for purpose! Tiles hanging off the wall in the bathroom, others completely off, curtain hanging off the rail, and didn’t actually fit the window, water running down the walls within the room, very strong smell of damp and generally very dirty. I phoned the owner who was less than helpful to say the least, told me the room wasn’t like that before we arrived so basically insinuating myself or my daughter had caused the damage to the room, which is absolutely ludicrous. I asked for my money back and wasn’t told that I would be refunded. If I don’t get my money back I will be contacting trading standards and health and safety. Also the front door to the building doesn’t get locked and room doors are only secured with a chubb lock, it didn’t feel safe at all. We have had to leave and drive 60 miles home, late in the evening due to arriving and being unable to stay due to the horrendous conditions of the room.

Very comfortable. Accommodation was seperate from the hotel next door where breakfast was served. Breakfast was very good. Pretty central and a short walking distance to the town centre (10 minute walk). Bar seemed to shut early 9pm or so but was not such a big issue for us but maybe for others. Again that was in the hotel next door.

Ten years ago, we stayed at the Glenlossie and it was one of the best B&Bs we've ever experienced in Scotland. I gave it top marks on Trip Advisor and that's a rarity! The owners were friendly, the breakfast was superb and the place had a professional and business-like air about it. So, thinking we'd head to D&G for a few days recently we thought to book again. In the interim the place has been taken over by the larger Caledonian Hotel next door and is now effectively an annexe. It goes without saying that the former ambience of the establishment is dead and gone. There was litter in the car park and old chairs and junk in the passage outside our ground floor bedroom window which we couldn't open for long because of the cigarette smoke emanating from who knows who although the constant coughing through the thin wall would suggest our neighbour was the culprit. The bathroom ceiling was peeling, probably due to the lack of an extractor and the sink lacked a plug. We bought one in a shop. To be fair, the room was attended to every day and coffee/tea/soap etc replenished (not the plug). You get the feeling no one is around to "manage" the place. The front door is always on the snib. Mail lay about the porch uncollected. Breakfasts are now served at the big house and that's it. The buffet is average and the porridge wouldn't win an Oscar nomination any longer. It's a shame as the young East European lassies in charge are doing their best. I know covid has hit the hotel trade hard. Staff shortages are a common feature now and it's a wonder that places like this can stay open at all. in the Caledonian's case the funeral trade keeps them going, I gather. Good luck to them. But I think the use of the name Glenlossie for the ghostly building next door is a bit of a nonsense and quite sad in the circumstances.
