This is our third time of seeing the New Year in at Tarr Farm Inn and we can't think of anywhere we would rather be. A delicious 5 course meal including canapés, lobster risotto, scallop. For my main I had the Sea Bass which was cooked to perfection whilst my wife enjoyed the Beef Bourguignon. Choice of desserts was a little limited this year so we both opted for the cheese board to finish. as this was huge we ended up taking some home. This was a two night stay and on the second night I had the venison whilst my wife had the Loin of Lamb with mini shepherds pie (which was so good we ended up going back again for a second helping on the third evening before driving home). The inn is in a beautiful location with walks from the door. The weather wasn't great on New Years day but it was nice just to relax in the parlour with a slow pint listening to the buzz of conversation from the bar. We also enjoyed the cream tea (again the scones are huge so you may need to share!). Thanks to Hilary and the team for another relaxing stay. Look forward to seeing you again soon

We have just returned from celebrating my husband’s 80th birthday at Tarr Farm Inn. We went for dinner & an over night stay & we’re delighted with the experience. The staff were lovely, the meal was excellent & the accommodation ideal. We particularly loved the view, the king sized bed, the plentiful hot water and the complimentary gin & tonic. We came home feeling like we had had a week long holiday. We will certainly be returning.

Gorgeous location but the room was tired and dated. Bathroom smelt awful. Terribly thin walls, we could hear every snore from the committed snorer next door. Very limited choice for non meat eaters Staff seem friendly but very busy. Would not say it was worth the money.

We stopped for a bite to eat after a walk at tarr steps- we decided on the scones with cream and jam- delicious warm fluffy scones! Staff member was attentive and really lovely, took the time to chat with my nephew asking questions and even telling a joke about “what’s the fastest cake? Our dogs were wet and soggy and they had towels and didn’t even bat an eyelid about the dogs being wet! Would definitely go back, for a lunch next time :) thank you.

Have visited Tarr Farm on many occasions, great location on the River Barie & Tarr Steps. Ideal for dogs! Lovely views & garden to enjoy a couple of beers or more. Parking is tight unless you are lucky otherwise it’s quite a walk from the top car park on the lane.

Go . Stay . Eat . Its is really really good. It's a lovely place in a beautiful situation. Fabulous walking from the front door. There are loads of good walks (proper boots recommended) . Well worth planning your routes carefully its very hilly country. The wooded valleys are like old England must have been. The staff are universally lovely . Helpful human and efficient. The food was a revalation. It aint cheap (where is these days) but you do feel at that quality of cooking you do not feel short changed. My lamb for example came pink - and there was a lot of it - and it was so tender as to barely need a knife- and normally I prefer more well done- but not here . Here the splendid chef delivers it both pink and tender. And my smoked haddock and poached eggs for breakfast was most welcome. The wine list has some very good stuff much of it reasonably priced- the very good bar does a good Tarr Farm Bitter -lovely. And free nuts if you ask. The rooms are very well equipped and showers and bathrooms are good. One annoyance is the exit signs gently glowing over the bedroom door - "elf and safety jobsworths requirements " no doubt. Internet works but is patchy in outlying rooms . And phone signal - forget it unless you are on top of one of the hills. But they do provide normal working phones in the room so communication is possible. Highly recommended.

Had mentally given this review 5* before the food even arrived! The staff went the extra mile to connect and look after us and were also very friendly towards the children. The ambience indoors was very soothing- nice decor, layout, music. The dinner was served promptly, hot, and delicious, with well-sized portions. The Ferrero rocher ice cream was every bit as good as it sounds! Moving onto the sunny terrace for a coffee was the cherry on the cake. Thank you for making this such a lovely experience. Would definitely return if in the area again.
