So disappointed. Had high expectations: after looking at the website I was expecting all that was promised. On walking to reception I noticed a lot of maintenance work that needed to be done. On entering our room, the beds looked like someone had just got off them. The room was dirty, blood on mirror, dust on side lamp, mugs didn’t match, I could go on. Were taken to a different room. Still substandard, and to be honest at this point all hopes has been shattered. Waited 5 days for a reply from management. Still awaiting my promised refund under my consumer rights as this stay was not fit for purpose, it was sold incorrectly. I really hope management read these comments and action all the necessary work that needs to bring this ‘world class’ establishment back to standards.

Beautiful Manor House with stunning surroundings and traditional, vintage rooms. The Manor House itself and its surroundings definitely didn’t disappoint, it’s a shame that the running of the spa and poor customer service let it down. We paid £570.00 for an overnight stay, plus £200,00 on treatments. We definitely didn’t get the service you would expect for that amount of money. We paid extra for an early arrival, so we spent 2 full days at the spa. There wasn’t any towels, during the while time we was at the spa. Even though, we and plenty of other customers complained about this. We had to use our robes to dry ourselves and were left dripping wet, one of the hot tubs were closed and there was hardly any seating areas around the pools. There are not enough seating areas around the spa areas, they didn’t rotate people in the pool, hot tubs or seating areas. Resulting in a first come served basis, there was never any staff around cleaning the spa area, floors or replacing towels ext. People were going down to the spa at 6am in the morning and leaving towels on the very few seats that were there, meaning you couldn’t relax around the pool. Like we’ve done at all the other spas we’ve visited previously, we had to go back to our rooms in between times spent in the pool. Rather than being able to relax around the pool, which is ridiculous. The lunch buffet was our favourite meal time at Champneys Tring, as it seemed to run the most smoothest and the food was delicious. The breakfast buffet was equally as tasty, the only downfall was that you had to book and they didn’t tell you this upon arrival. Resulting, in you having limited options for times. Rather, than just being able to arrive during set times. Which was a bit frustrating, as we’d of rather been able to lay in and just go for breakfast when we was up and ready. Like we’ve done at previous spas, we had no issue for booking time slots for the other meals. I would suggest the managers have a spa stay at some other spas to see how they run their facilities, to give themselves some well needed tips.

Where do i begin!! One disappointment after another. Upon arrival was pointed in the direction of room (others were shown). Not informed that if robes were not returned to reception we would be charged. Room was basic (did not mention in original complaint as I appreciate the building is dated). Went to use facilities, had to ask other users where to get towels, went to changing room, no towels to be seen, rust on hand driers, bathing suit driers, toilet roll holders, no toilet though (see pictures below). Tissue in the corner of the room (obviously not maintained throughout the day). Went to book treatment, despite being the only ones at spa reception, we were pointed in the direction of touch screen which would explain the treatments, rather than a basic bit of old fashioned customer service. Dinner was good, waiting staff attentive. Woke up in the morning to water dripping through bathroom light (see picture below), reported first thing, was not dealt with when we later checked out. Treatment was excellent, staff in shop (clarins) also excellent. Use of facilities the next day, no power, had to traipse to reception to purchase creams. Again hunt the towels ensued, should not have bothered as power was down so jacuzzi was cold. Gave up and went home. This was Sun 22 to Mon 23 September. I emailed complaint to Zoe (Guest relations manager) she was very apologetic and offered myself and my friend a free night stay. I declined the offer, due to guest only offer of a two night return stay for the price of one, leaving me feeling her offer was flippant and not genuine give the catalogue of disappointment considering this was our first experience. Oh and did I mention (i did to Zoe) this was a treat to celebrate my 50th birthday......anyway, I declined the offer on 26/09 and am now being ignored. Not even an offer to refund my money which is what I originally asked for, so am guessing that my initial thoughts of being fobbed off was bang on the nail. So, Zoe or any other manager reading this, please get in touch as I would still like my money back.

This is my favourite escape. My daughter and I try to come here at least once a year for a bit of r&r and pampering. The staff are friendly and professional. A great selection of treatments available, we try to have something different every time, and they've all been blissfull. The grounds are gorgeous for a relaxing stroll between treatments (bring boots, it can be muddy). Food is fab, healthy, and a wide selection. A special shout out for Louise in the cafe who serves up a great latte & cake, always with a friendly greeting

The male changing rooms opposite the gym need to be shut down for urgent maintenance. There is mold spores growing everywhere which is toxic and detrimental to your health when breathing it in. A health resort should be aware of the dangers of mold. Overall the place is tired and in disrepair (showers not working / tiles in the spa missing / jets not working / lack of towels / stained towels) For the amount Champneys are charging you would expect a higher standard of facilities.

Planned a spa weekend for myself and daughters for a special occasion at Champneys and have left feeling completely underwhelmed and disappointed. Facilities (or lack of) : On arrival given stained and dirty off white robes . Outdoor jacuzzi was cold and dirty. Tiles need re-grouting. Spa pool was lukewarm, overcrowded and noisy. There was puddles of scummy water all around the pool. Hardly any seating to ‘relax’. No clean towels. Overall the facilities were shocking, dirty and dated. Massage: Three of us booked a full body massage and all came out with completely different experiences. For example, one had a head massage, 2 others didn’t. I’ve had a number of massages in the past and this one has been the worst. We were hoping this could have saved the experience but it just added to the disappointment. Rooms: Walls were stained with split coffee. No mattress protectors on the stained mattress. The bathroom suite was also rusty and mouldy. There was a tray of food which had been left out in the corridor for at least 12hrs hours (from what we saw) may have been longer . There is nothing luxury about Champneys apart from the price. PLEASE book somewhere else and save your money!! Champneys HQ - please read the reviews, I wish I had before booking as I am not the only one of your customers who feels let down and ripped off !

Staff very friendly. but the place seriously needs updating Was supposed to be here two nights but got a refund for the second night so stayed one. Food is good and a good selection but that's about it. Staff friendly Steam room not working and this morning there's still dirty glasses around the Jacuzzi area . Can't smell any kind of disinfectant at all. The place is filthy to be honest.

We stayed for two nights in June. Very chilled and relaxing experience. I like the old photos dotted about, that show it as an old school health farm from back in the day. We didn't use any of the chargeable services they have on offer and just lazed by the pool, worked out at the gym, enjoyed the grounds and the restaurant. Thoroughly pleasant time. If you like to eat healthy, get pampered and walk about in a robe then this is for you.

30mins to check in. Tired decor, staff, and rooms. ***** on the floor in the bathroom. Stains on the walls. To top it all off, we had a broken toilet seat as well. We ended up leaving and requesting a full refund. If you're looking for a spa escape, Champneys certainly sounds fancy - and the drive up is v nice - but once you get past the gorgeous exterior, I'm afraid the rest of the experience leaves a lot to be desired. We won't be back.
