We had called into this village on the way to the lakes during the summer and had seen literature saying about a Christmas break We booked later on in the summer to spend our first Christmas away from family The staff at the Assheton were superb and we could not fault them Nothing was to much trouble Lovely food and service Pleasant room Pub bar a little small and missing some comfy seating but plenty of dining areas Not sure if it has disabled parking area

A lovely country pub, with lovely rooms. We had booked in for DBB, which allocates £20 per head towards the evening meal. Upon checkout, we thought the bill was very high so we asked them to check that the dinner allocation had been taken off, it hadn't. As it was a special occasion, a friend had rang to pay towards our bill. The money was taken, but we weren't told, and it wasn't taken off our bill! She queried it with the pub, as we hadn't mentioned it, or thanked her for her gift. She is now being refunded, not a good experience.

No complaints, a clean, nicely furnished room (modern designer style) in the traditional old post office building in this lovely village with good freshly cooked food in the pub, we would definitely stay again. Young lady behind the bar could have been a tad more welcoming but she’d clearly had enough of southern tourists this week. Sarah, on the other hand (waiting tables at breakfast) couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful - charming, friendly and cheerful, efficient and responsive - even under pressure - that girl deserves a raise.

Had an amazing afternoon at the Assherton . Lovely views and lovely staff. Our server kaylee was kind and helpful when we had questions about the menu . Food was just what we needed , complements to the chef . A lovely lady Sarah was kind enough to talk to us about the rooms that they offer as well as her recommendations on what rooms would be best for our family. Overall it was a lovely find and we will happily be returning.

Such a beautiful pub, and food great, it’s just the service which lets it down. We stayed for the night and can say the pub is beautiful; exactly what we look for when staying for a short break in the UK. The place is peaceful and set in such a beautiful, picturesque area with views of Pendle Hill. Our room was cosy and lovely - only issue was mould around the bath. This definitely needs to be addressed, however the rest was spotless. Our only issue was the service - Dinner was fabulous but we were kept waiting for so long between courses, it took a while to order drinks after being brought the menus, then for food, then to be cleared away etc. It felt like we just kept being forgotten about. The person serving the area looked like they could only do one thing at a time like take a menu to another table, then walk with their head down and not acknowledge the table next to them who needed to order. Thankfully for the food was lovely but please sort out the slow service. It’s an excellent pub and shouldn’t be let down on this.

We stayed here for a few days while visiting the area. We had a nicely furnished room in a separate building next to the pub. We had a good-sized bedroom with two armchairs and a wardrobe, but there were no drawers. I know this is the modern fashion but it is irritating if you staying for more than one night because it limits you on how to store your clothes. We had a big bathroom which was very nicely decorated. However, the plug in the bath did not close properly and so we were unable to use the bath. However, when we brought this to the attention of the staff they moved us into the room next door, which was a slightly better room. The breakfast was okay. There were some cooked options and a small buffet. I thought the Bacon Buty was a bit disappointing as the slices of bread were quite big and thick and rather dwarfed the rashers of bacon. The lunch menu is good and there is a good bar serving well-kept beer. There is some outside seating and it is pleasant sitting there with a drink looking out at the countryside. We ate there one night and we had a good dinner of nicely prepared dishes. There is a good selection of wines by glass. All aspects of the service throughout our stay were friendly and efficient.

Fantastic accommodation well worth an overnight stay or longer as the surrounding countryside is spectacular. Clitheroe town has a good selection of independent shops and a good open market. Food really good at the Assheton Arms I picked from a menu that had loads of tempting choice

Loved this pub. Had an overnight stay, it’s in a lovely old village opposite the church and adjacent a very pretty row of cottages. We were lucky with the weather and enjoyed afternoon drinks outside. Our room was in an adjacent building, well furnished, clean and comfy. We ate in the restaurant, good menu, food lovely, as was the breakfast in the morning.
