Loved this hotel. The best all Accor so far in Melbourne. Attentive staff. Very friendly. Nice room. Breakfast is barely like warm. It really was unappealing. No G.F options really. Got G.G toast. It was inedible-. Like stale bread. Would definitely stay here again without the breakfast!!

My place of choice. Stayed here several times and these apartments are fantastic. Friendly welcoming staff, great communication. Great location free tram at the door, waterfront and close to Marvel stadium. Quiet apartments in quirky building mixed with commercial and apartments, room numbering system is great. Secure building with swipe access for entry. The apartments are clean, well appointed, modern, and spacious. Full kitchen and laundry facilities. The staff have thought of everything laundry detergent is provided. Car parking available.
Holiday Inn Express Melbourne Little Collins, an IHG Hotel

Would I recommend Holiday Inn little Collins...yes I would...but there were a few negatives to our stay Location is excellent close to Sth Cross Station and the free tram network. Breakfast included is a bonus and the selection was great. Hot sausage, hash browns, scrambled eggs, toast, cereals, pastries and mini muffins as well as the milk, orange juice, tea and coffee (with barista made at a cost by the reception/bar located in the same area. Staff were welcoming, helpful and pleasant. On the negative side I must add that during our 4 night stay housekeeping came the first morning. After that nothing so our wet towels sat waiting for collection. When calling for clean towels I was directed to collect them from reception. The next day we encountered the same issue...after leaving the room most of the day we returned again to find housekeeping hadn't been. This time when I called reception they organized to send a crew up pretty quickly. I expect the main reason behind this was they were fully booked with Manchester united fans in for the weekends game but as a mum the occasional opportunity to actually have someone tidy and replace towels is a novelty that I take full advantage of so was disappointed in this part of our stay. Beds and linen were clean but again housekeeping let us down with the floors...carpet had definitely not been cleaned in a while ...our socks picked up various dark long hair and bark/dirt..gross. One last issue was the invoice received for our stay..all good and as expected however $50.75 more was actually taken out of my visa. Having to make another phone call to have this explained was ridiculous. It's a bond...totally understand and it's refundable after the room is checked BUT why not add a small note to the invoice explaining this and save the guest and your team time explaining the extra charge?? Overall it was a decent stay and I would recommend but the issues above need to be ironed out quickly.

The hotel is conveniently located in the city center. There are two railway stations in the surrounding area. The rooms are also very large. There are kitchenware and tableware in the room for cooking. The only reminder is to bring your own teeth and slippers.
The Ritz-Carlton, Melbourne

After many years of delayed construction we stayed at the Ritz Carlton this past Sunday night. I grabbed a rate of $491 through the Marriott website which is comparable or a bit cheaper than other 5* hotels at the other end of town. The hotel is situated at the western end of the city near the main railway station which isn't the best location in Melb for a luxury hotel. However when pulling into the entrance to have the car valet parked ($75) it's another world. The guys at the entrance were friendly and very helpful. We were escorted to the lifts and whisked up to Level 80 for check in. We were given lots of information about the hotel and facilities and the man checking us in was pleasant and tole us that we were as close to the top on Level 77. The room is spacious with a separate toilet, luggage compartment and big bathroom with bath and a large desk. The views were incredible looking across the city to the east and the bay. Unfortunately our room was a couple of levels above the neighbouring tall building so I could hear the air con all night. As typical of luxury hotels the bed had too soft pillows for my liking and we should've asked for firmer pillows, I don't know why hotels continue to provide such soft pillows. I went to Level 64 for a swim in the shallow pool which was great with incredible views. We met friends and family for drinks in the lounge where the service was prompt and friendly but the drinks are very expensive which is to be expected of a luxury hotel. On the Sunday night near midnight there was a 3.8 richter earthquake in Melbourne but I didn't feel it but my wife said the building moved slightly and I did notice the clock had moved slightly. Breakfast on the long table is fantastic and we thought the breakfast was reasonably priced a la carte only with good selection available. I would stay here again given the right rate but keep in mind the hotel is a tram ride into the shopping and most of the restaurants are up the other end of the city.
Winston Apartments

The location is good, free tram right out front into the City, Woolworths supermarket right across the road, and a few cafes which are open - but only during the week. Weekend is dead at this part of Docklands. The booking, check in and instructions were 10/10 - cannot fault the customer experience. The room was tiny - a tiny apartment but adequate for our needs and the inclusions were good. My gripe and reason for low rating is the bed situation and cleanliness. The ‘king’ bed (two singles pushed together were clearly old and well used. One side had a mattress protector, the other side did not- and the mattress clearly had blood and vomit? Stains on it - visible through the sheet! The pillows did not have pillow protectors and were stained yellow. It was too late at night to rectify so I spent the night on the sofa. Reception were contacted and the bed was remade with a mattress protector - I advised it was unhygienic and needed replacement. They said they would after we check out. I hope they do! In all, some more attention to cleaning wouldn’t go astray! Eg, vacuuming - carpets looked like they had not been vacuumed, the vacuum in the place had no suction. Didn’t know what yo think of the pet protector over the couch - kind of ruined the ‘cute’ decor…. I’d focus more on bed than couch if I was them! Also, on a very windy night the high pitched drag of air/wind noise was very annoying, impeding sleep. A towel at the base of entry door fixed that. Would I stay again…. Because of the mattress - a big no. As for the facilities and location it’s a shame as it’s a good location and staff.
