Downton Lodge Country B&B

We”ve visited many B&B”s over the years and this is one of the best we”ve ever been to . Without wishing to repeat what all the other travellers have said about this place, everything stated in the AI summary says it all . We stayed for 3 nights in March and were fortunate to enjoy unseasonally good weather . The views from our room towards Dartmouth are stunning and the room itself is of a very high standard . Every detail has been carefully considered and it”s obvious a huge amount of planning has been done to enhance the customer experience . Whilst the stunning peaceful location and excellent breakfasts are great, what made our stay so enjoyable were the hosts - Andrew and Martin. They really made us welcome and ensured we had a most enjoyable stay . For anyone thinking of visiting Dartmouth area, I strongly advise avoiding the car parking nightmare in the town and enjoy the perfect countryside retreat less than 2 miles away . Thanks again to our hosts and we look forward to returning.

We booked into Downton Lodge, Dittisham, last minute after spending a dire night in a nearby B&B. That's a whole different review!!! I was ready to cut a long weekend short but so glad I didn't. We were warmly welcomed by Karen and shown to our gorgeous room and even offered delicious, freshly baked chocolate cake. There was a communal area with seating, fridge stocked with fresh milk, lots of local information (including reviews of local restaurants), computer and books. After a night in a very comfortable bed, we were treated to a gorgeous, home cooked breakfast. You have to try their homemade crab apple jelly on toast. Delicious! You will be hard pushed to find a better B&B and I can’t recommend Downton Lodge highly enough. Karen and Ian were wonderful, friendly and hospital hosts and I’m very jealous of their stunning Art Noveau inspired home :-) We will be back. Dittisham is a beautiful part of Devon and well worth visiting. If you come to this area must sees are Coleton Fishacre (National Trust house and grounds), and the Agatha Christie House. For food/refreshments we would recommend the local pub The Ferry Boat Inn next to the harbour in Dittisham. Be warned though you need to be fit to get back up the hill!! :-))

This place is s little heaven on earth, from the warm & inviting greeting on arriving from Martin, the information & our question he answered, definitely a seasoned host. The property is outstanding if you like, interesting, homely, quaint, gorgeous, room was a generous size, plenty of storage space, plus our empty luggage fitted under the bed. The bed, so comfortable slept really well, the feeling, the decor, the view, the cleanliness, the trinkets, all superb. Tea & coffee is on a shared landing outside the bedrooms, again so homely so inviting, an amazing idea executed to perfection. Don't do evening meal currently, breakfast perfect, full choice whatever you want, all freshly prepared by Andrew our second host, (with a little help from Martin), views over the garden & beyond beautiful. nothing is too much trouble for these guys, chatty, entertaining, informative without being to forward, outstanding hosts. Beautiful property too, in the rain or sunshine. Plenty of places around abouts to see, eat, stroll, visit, some of the roads around a little challenging, found reverse gear quite useful on a couple of occasions, plenty of passing places though. An ideal B &B in an idea location. Never said this about a B&B before, we will be coming back, usually have never repeat stayed in a B&B before, this place is the exception. Thank you so so much Martin & Andrew for being the icing on the end of our holiday tour.

We were given a very warm welcome and shown to an amazing room. The whole house is very atmospheric and very comfortable. We stayed for 2 nights, had full English breakfast one morning and continental the next and both were delicious. Will definitely return.

Our room was clean and comfortable and we had a small balcony from where we could sit and enjoy the view across fields to the mouth of the Dart. The breakfast was tailored to what we wanted and was delicious. You will need a car but there is plenty of parking. The hosts were lovely and very helpful with local knowledge. So glad we stayed here, it's a little gem.

Outstanding Self Catering barn conversion. This was our second visit to Downton Lodge. We previously stayed in the B&B which was fantastic with gorgeous breakfasts. The barn conversion is a home from home, with everything decorated furnished and cleaned to an extremely high standard. I slept so well and enjoyed every moment. Beautiful location so convenient for the ferry to Greenway. Dartmouth is gorgeous; what is not to like. Huge thanks Andrew and Martin.
