Nice clean modern room in the new extension, hotel a bit understaffed so had to wait at bar when reception was busy , food mediocre but as a base to explore Diss it was fine , double bed fantastic 111111122222

Lovely place, but when we booked over the phone,we were never told the restaurant would be close and only doing breakfast. We got told when we arrived. It was dirty and cobweb everywhere and no housekeeper over the weekend. The one staff was lovely and help us. I don’t know how it can be afour stars. Outside could do with a tidy up.

This review is like the master chef marking contestants in that it does include a "but....". Firstly, I would be amazed if comments about the staff were anything but "excellent","brilliant","amazing". At all times their willingness to go the extra mile was obvious and necessary as they were short staffed. Their cheerful demeanor shone through morning, noon and night. Parking should not be an issue. We had two rooms, one in the refurbished area and one upstairs. Both had very comfortable firm beds, the smaller had two very comfortable chairs besides the desk and accompanying chair. The other room would have benefited having an extra chair but toiletries and tea making facilities fine. Large walk in shower in both with plentiful hot water. The sound proofing was good, especially the windows, as a Discotheque for 130 people was held one night without impacting our sleep. The hotel is very accommodating and our exuberant two year old granddaughter was tolerated by both staff and guests alike. Breakfast is cooked to order and understandably takes time especially if staff shortage is still happening. Guests can stipulate which items and quantities. Usual range of cereals and lovely croissants and muffins along with white or brown bread. Location is excellent with a good children park 100 yards away alongside The Mere with the town centre beyond. Diss is a good place, compact but charming with an excellent riverside pub doing award winning meat pie and prices are reasonable. So what's the "but"? If staying overnight for B&B then relax. However, if using the voucher for the two night package I do strongly suggest you check whether the present chef issue is still there. Hopefully it will be but otherwise the package despite being very cheap is not good value.

The park hotel hosted a 80s,90s night which was a great idea, it attracted a lot of people which the bar couldn’t cope with 30 minutes wait for a drink and then when it did come nearly anything out of the tap beer was terrible and sent back, obviously no one’s is doing the cellar management and cleaning the beer lines which is such a shame if they are not careful somebody is gonna feel very sick the next day ! I was warned 2 weeks earlier watch the beer there as a friend popped in on a Friday dinner time for a pint and he told me it was undrinkable, I hope the management will take this on board as it could be a great place again…

We had the carvery, it was delicious, it could have been a bit hotter (hence dropping one star) but it tasted delicious. Probably one of the best I have ever had. All the staff were very friendly, the settings were also very nice

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights we had booked a superior double room. when we arrived we could not book in with the new self service check-in and needed help from a staff member. Our room was far from superior, the net curtains where brown stained, the windows could not be opened, there was only one pillow per person, the wallpaper was pealing off the walls in several places, the bathroom was very small, it was not safe to have a bath so we showed in the bath, anyone who is any taller than 5'2" would not be able to use the shower due to hight of ceiling. The room was not serviced on day 2, so no clean / dry towels, no made bed, or bin's emptied. On the first day I spoke to staff about the room and was told "it is the next room to be refurbished" The staff were lovely but there was not enough of them and they was run off their feet. the first morning the chef did not turn in so a replacement had to be found, and breakfast was good when we did get it. We have never completed a review before, but this was the. worsed room we have ever stayed in I am sorry to say. My advise would be don't let that room be used until it has been sorted out, and get more staff as they are run ragged bless them.

Booked an afternoon tea get away for my partners birthday. We traveled one hour from Great Yarmouth to get here and wish we hadn’t. It was embarrassing. First of all we arrive and staff could see us but just ignored us. They were chatting away, so we decided to do the self check in, after 5 minutes it didn’t work so just went and spoke to them in which they said “ahh we were just talking about where you were” Sat down to a table, no “how are you” or any small conversation. Once sat down a young girl came over and started chatting to us “guessing the chefs daughter” she was pulled away but then kept coming back (very unprofessional to have your children at work and interrupt whilst serving guess?) We got asked if we wanted drinks and it we just basic filter coffee. The chef then brought our afternoon tea over and when I say disappointed I mean disappointed! It prob cost under £3 to make! Cheap cakes from Lidl, 2 cheap scones and 6 tiny finger sandwiches! No pastries or tarts or anything home made! Was terrible, when you think of afternoon teas, you think homemade, fancy right? Nothing of the sort, we left pretty much all of it, coffee was undrinkable and we were just so annoyed. I was embarrassed I took my partner! Whilst there one other table walked in got given old menus, the young girl was going up to them too, they then got “new menus” ordered and was told Pretty much they could only have sandwiches, when they ordered the chef walked out 5 mins later (no chef whites or hat any of them items, clearly just wearing home clothes “ and told them there was no tuna for one of their sandwiches as it was off! What kind of chef says that? Absolutely terrible. I’d really like to know how the place is still running to be honest! The best thing about the places was the ceiling display of lights and nail/netting map picture on the wall! Will never go back or recommend,

This hotel is truly dreadful. From the time of our arrival, until we checked out 2 days later, we encountered nothing but problems. We booked a suite, which we felt was over priced for what it was. We expected the room to be in a quieter part of the hotel, as it was a suite. However, we were sorely disappointed. When booking, we did ask if the room was in a quiet area, and, we were told, yes it was. We did not know thst there was actually a room directly above us. We had 3 screaming children running up and down the room together with barking dogs. We withstood it for an hour, but, in the end, we went to reception to ask if we could move rooms, the noise was unbearable. Prior to our arrival, we received an e mail, offering us premier parking st the hotel for £3.00 per night and a discount on a 3 course dinner, st a cost of £18.00 per person per night, instead of £24.00. For us, that was a total of £72.00 for 2 nights. We were also asked to check in online, prior to our arrival, which we did. When we got yo the hotel, we could not see any parking space with reserved on it. We asked st reception, to be told that, they did not offer this service at thst hotel. We were asked to do a self service check in. It had only been installed that day, and, it wasn’t working. We stood in reception for more than 20 minutes, whilst a staff member phoned around to try and resolve the problem. We were checked in manually in the end. We could not have lunch, as the oven had broken down the night before, and was not due to be repaired u til the Friday ( 2 days on, from our arrival ) We were informed thst, due to having no Main oven, dinner would be limited. It was restricted to a burger or Scampi, or goats cheese tart. The second night, they had managed to partially repair the oven, so menu was a little better. Breakfast was ok, but, on the second day, we waited 40 minutes after ordering, and, when it came, there were items missing, as it turned out, it was because, they had run out and their delivery didn’t arrive. A member of staff had to go out to the supermarket to buy enough to be able to supply breakfast. By the time they bought it and cooked it, we had finished eating. The room thst we were moved to, did not have a wardrobe, or any other form of hanging rail, we had to leave our clothes in the suitcase.we had to make our own bed everyday, and, it was not cleaned, as they only do this, if your stay is 3 nights or more. There is much more, but, just writing this review is making me angry all over again. I would not recommend this hotel.
