Spent last night at the G and D with a great evening meal and breakfast. Visiting Devizes for a family re-union in The Bear Hotel and other members stayed at The Bear and The Castle but they would not return. Planning next years re-union which will be in the G and D. Thanks for your hospitality Chippy.

Cannot recommend this place enough . We visited just for drinks and snacks but the food smelled amazing . Staff were extremely Attentive . They even gave us a loft back to our canal boat when we had finished even with a very dirty dog we had with us . Come visit you won't regret it

This used to be our treasured place to eat, but not anymore. Menu now very expensive, cookery certainly does not match the price. Service indifferent didn't seem to care when we said we would not return. Chippy (the owner) sell up and move on old chap, you have obviously lost the love for this.

Lovely pub, with a good atmosphere, but I was left underwhelmed at some rather overpriced food. The food was tasty, but the dishes felt rather unfinished, which makes the premium price difficult to justify. For example the Prawns, at £28 for a main course consisted of around 8 prawns in a shallow bisque. Both the prawns and the bisque were delicious, but the dish was crying out for something to mop up said bisque, whether that be bread, chips, or a green salad. Instead one was left with a plate of shells sat in a nice sauce. Equally with the steak for the same price. A nicely cooked piece of steak on a plate of sauce, with some chips in a separate bowl. Again, it just felt to be missing something, some green vegetables, a side salad, something. A shame, because the food was tasty, and clearly expertly cooked, but the presentation needs more thought. The same was true of all the dishes our party had, with the exception of the fish and chips, which were excellent. All in all the food was good, the pub is nice, but more effort is needed to justify what is a very premium pricing strategy.

Fantastic room and food but the best part was the incredibly friendly service from Sydney & Chippy. I would thoroughly recommend this absolute gem of a country pub.

Such a beautiful pub B&B , I needed somewhere to stay whilst I was visiting my son after an operation. I used to live in a neighbouring village and had heard about the george and dragon's fabulous reputation in regards the restaurant's fresh fish. But not being a fish eater I had never been, but decided to stay here and I'm so pleased we did, such a friendly welcome by all the staff, and chippy bends over backwards to make you feel at home, the room was very comfortable! The bed was the best I've experienced in a B&B .we had a roll top bath in the room, lovely to relax in whilst reading a book. We did have a meal and my other half really enjoyed the fish dish he had, I enjoyed a cheese board and blueberry Eaton mess! I really cannot rate this place enough, it's just so quirky and homily and in a prime spot for visiting devizes, Chippenham, Calne and surrounding areas with beautiful countryside. Ohhh I nearly forgot to mention the delicious warm croissants for breakfast! Yum.

Our host really did make our brief stay enjoyable. The George and Dragon has a style of its own and if tradition mixed with modern comfort is what you are seeking then this pub and restaurant will not disappoint you. They work to earn their reputation. The staff are both pleasant and engaging. It may be a cliche but you really will be made to feel welcome. Watch out for misinformation about its location. It is in the village of Rowde outside of Devizes.
