I spent a night here with my parents just after Boxing Day. Driving in it feels like yo ugh are driving towards Milford sound with the orange bark on the trees and the tree canopy’s that meet, we stayed in Karearea cottage, comfortable, nice layout, overlooks farmland with sheep, very kiwi, very serene, nice little bbq to cook on, all eco products provided, as it is an eco destination no heated towel rails but there were electric blankets, a heat pump in the room and a heater in the bathroom. The only things we found to need improvement was that sofa in this unit has seen better days and unfortunately when you sit down you feel the spine of the sofa as the cushion is worn and the picture frames in the wall of the main bed are hung very low as are the fixed reading lights, as there is no headboard - if you choose to read in bed then your head is on the picture frame and the low fixed reading lights mean that heat and bright light are at your temples. There is no television however lots of board games are provided, there is reliable wifi so bring your laptop for movie night. We did not feel one night here was enough to properly explore and appreciate the grounds and walking tracks. We really liked how homely the units were whilst also being modern and clean. Our cottage had room to sleep 4. A main king bed then a small part wall had two single beds top to tail, a really clever configuration for people travelling together. We would definitely stay again.
