I stayed in one of the units at the back of the property, described on the website as 'double room garden', on the Thursday before Easter weekend. The unit was clean and well-appointed. It had a living area (basic kitchenette with toaster, kettle, microwave and cutlery/crockery; sofa to watch tv; a small dining table and chairs), a bedroom area with a really comfy bed and a small en-suite bathroom with one of the best showers I've ever experienced. There was outdoor seating too, overlooking the campsites and out to a rural outlook beyond. The whole complex was super-quiet while I was there and the location of the unit (sheltered from SH1 by the reception building and road-front motel units) meant that there was no road noise at night. At $130 this was an absolute bargain. I've got to admit I was a bit nervous about some of the older reviews on Trip Advisor but I needn't have been: I'll definitely be back when I'm next in Kaikoura.
