Portakal Hotel Dalyan

Stayed at this lovely family run hotel last week, and enjoyed it hugely. From the moment of my arrival, I was impressed by the friendly approach of all the staff, who genuinely wanted to make my stay stress free and memorable. I stayed in a clean and well serviced ground floor room with a little outside space, worth the small upgrade fee. As others have (almost) said, Ramazan in the bar is the undoubted star of the show. While he’s a professional bartender and cocktail mixer, he manages to combine this with a warm and engaging style, so that all who meet him soon regard him as a friend. A rare talent! Recommend you stay here – it’s in a great location, with a lovely garden on the riverside and very relaxing.

What a wonderful stay! We arrived around midnight to a friendly reception. All staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. Paid that bit more so we could have a ground floor room which has the terrace. First floor rooms don't. The hotel is only small, which we like. The hotel room is spacious, and there is plenty of storage (might want to bring a few hangers for the wardrobe). About 10 are provided. Safe hidden in the wardrobe, use is free. TV but we couldn't find any English speaking channels, not a big problem for us and a very comfy king-size bed. Air con was included in our overall cost. Kettle and cups provided, just need to bring your tea & coffee or purchase from the local shop along with milk. Fridge in the room. The bathroom was very clean gorgeous shower, and there was always hot water. And yes, people hairdryer is provided. Room attendant service every day. There are plenty of options for breakfast (buffet style). Lovely and clean pool. Short walk to the restaurant/bars & shops. Can highly recommend the Hotel.

Lovely compact little hotel, only 48 rooms. Rooms, pool, restaurant and bar all in one area. There is also a garden by the river with a hotch potch selection of seats, loungers etc. The pool is deep so not suitable for standing in, I am a poor swimmer so difficult for cooling off. Bar and snacks very good but not cheap so watch your bill. Breakfast is very good with a good variety of food and some changes every day. Rooms are lovely, reccomend ground floor Rooms. Room B12 is the best one. There is no plug in the wash basin so take a travel plug. Kettle and mugs in the room but no tea or coffee so bring your own. Hurrah, air con that works well, usually find it's freezing or off at other places we have stayed, even blows out warm air,(evenings were cool when we went). Staff were great and the boss lady walks around with a friendly hello to everyone. Immaculately clean.

We arrived quite late and were warmly welcomed by the friendly guy on reception. Shown to our room, we were very impressed with the quality of the design, fixtures and fittings. Beautiful glass mosaic lights, thick brocade curtains and everything squeaky clean. Two bottles of water in our room upon arrival and we had acquired extra milk sachets on the flight so a brew was quickly made to revive us. We paid to upgrade to a ground floor room with a terrace and we used this a lot so well worth the money for us. The upstairs rooms don't have balconies. We were lucky to get a corner room so it was nice and bright. Safe was handy too and no extra charges for this or the Aircon. The only thing we missed was an iron and they don't provide these, instead making a charge for an ironing service which we've never experienced before in our travels around the globe. The fridge was useful for storing milk and drinks. There is a rule about not bringing food or drink into the hotel, again another weird rule, but not rigidly enforced if you're tactful. We enjoyed breakfast sitting near the pool. Lots of choice and it varied a little each day. Excellent staff, attentive and friendly. The pool is quite small and there are plenty of sunbeds but very closely packed together. Luckily for us at this time of year it wasn't too hard to find solitude but could be an issue in the busier season. The bar prices are pretty high. For example 450 TL for a cocktail but some places in town only 300. Beer is cheaper. The gardens are cute and the hotel is next to the ferry over to Kaunos, the ancient city should not be missed. An easy walk from where the ferry docks. Ten mins walk to town and supermarkets en route. Got the bus to the turtle hospital which is easy to do and very interesting. Beautiful beach there too. We had late checkout but booked the shower room with reception, as the charge to keep your room is very expensive. Pleasantly surprised as there are two modern showers in there, with toiletries, a hairdryer and it's spacious and looks pretty new. We just kept hold of our room towels as none are provided in the shower room. I don't think it's worth paying to keep your room if you have a late flight. The shower room worked great for us! This hotel is a perfect base for your trip to the Dalyan River and although we never go back to a place as there's so much of the world to discover, if we did we'd stay here again.
