I am American born retired university professor who has been married to a Chinese woman from Shanghai for twenty years. We have a house in a village next to Old Dali. Dali has a special meaning for me, because one of my favorite relatives was a pilot in the US Army Air Force who use to fly over Dali during WW II.
Xiaojian and I stayed in Yanxiuge guest house while our house was being cleaned. What is special about this guest house is it in the hills looking over the lake with views of the mountains and the amazing clouds behind it. All rooms have views of the lake and guests can see the mountains from a special garden and from the roof which has tables and chairs.
The a**osphere is very relaxed. Guests and staff are very friendly. The food is excellent, and special dinners can be organized for guests and their friends.
I give this guest house my highest recommendation. Many interesting Chinese stay here when they are in Dali.

Very friendly and helpful service, good wine selection, gorgeous view from the roof terrace over the Old Town. No elevator, difficult with heavy luggage, but staff Carrie’s it up for you.

Fantastic view over the whole of the ancient town and the lake. Very convenient for the ancient town. Very friendly staff and the service was excellent. I would recommend watching the sunrise over the lake, it was stunning.

The hotel is great, with a unique design and the rooms are still quite new. Our stay was very comfortable. Afternoon tea and sweet soup were also given on the day of check-in. Since we returned to the hotel too late, the waiter specially prepared afternoon tea for us and delivered it to the room.
The room can see Erhai Lake and the sunrise. The hotel's location is a 15-minute walk from the ancient city. It is highly recommended for people who don't like noisy places. The shower supplies in the room are excellent.
The overall service is very good and the waiters are friendly. The only drawback was that there were no tea bags or coffee in the room, so we ordered coffee for breakfast on both days. The waiter only replied that it was OK, but did not explain the fee or price of the coffee in advance. He asked us for money when checking out. It is recommended to communicate with guests in advance.
