The Rest and Be Thankful Inn

I wouldn’t mind the cheap dated room and poky bathroom cupboard and utterly shagged mattress except… Several rooms back onto noisy kitchen fan and a refrigeration unit which kicks in regularly all night, no good in summer when you need window open. And the toilet regurgitates number twos when next door flushes or has a shower. Plus side, room was clean, breakfast was fine and shower was good.

Just stopped for Sunday carvery , I advise you to book would imagine it’s always busy! Wonderful Sunday lunch , the meats were super and just melted as you ate them! Please just try this lovely pub .Exmoor has wonderful scenery with lovely places like Dunster, selworthy, Tarr steps to visit.

Although we had booked a King/Twin room months in advance, sadly we were informed upon our arrival that something had gone wrong with the booking system, which meant that the room was not available. The landlord offered us a Double and an adjacent Single room instead, which is obviously not a desirable option for a married couple on a romantic getaway. We therefore opted to both sleep in the double room, though we regretted our decision the next morning, as the bed was clearly too narrow for two people to sleep in comfortably. The landlord had offered to make up for this mishap with our dinner, though we ended up being merely treated to 2 glasses of sparkling wine, which seemed a bit too small a gesture for our inconvenience. On the bright side, staff very generally friendly and we liked the breakfast. But having seen the high review rating this Inn is getting, it did feel somewhat of a let-down, to be honest. Google lists the establishment as a 4-star hotel, which doesn't seem quite appropriate. E.g. bottled water in the room was sorely missing. The decor also seemed rather dated to us.

A lovely meal in a welcoming country pub/hotel. A good choice of food, well presented and served by pleasant staff. We were most satisfied with all aspects of our visit: the quality of the meal, the staff and the ambience of the premises.

Easy to find and good views of Dunkery from your room. Very friendly and polite staff. Good WIFI speeds in your room. Plenty of parking spaces. Very quiet and peaceful area (you will get a decent sleep!)

Eric looked after us like we were family when we stayed for 3 nights in June 2022. The beds & bedding are amazing & you will get a good night's sleep here, without a doubt. Another treat is the delicious breakfast with local, organic produce. You choose from a wide selection the night before & can pick your own combination of full English breakfast, fruit, cereals... all fresh and tasty and the perfect way to start your day before putting your hiking boots on and heading out onto Exmoor. Stayed here on our last night of our trip, felt welcomed, a great choice and plentiful food. Room was quiet and had a great nights sleep, the shower was a bit temperamental, but which hotel showers aren't when everyone is using them at once. Plenty of car parking, highly recommended, would definitely stay again when passing.

Easy to find with a large car park. The rooms are very quiet and comfortable and we had a good view of the surrounding moors. Kaz and her staff are very welcoming and friendly. The food is excellent and there is plenty to choose from on the menu.
