This bed and breakfast was better than imagined. The rooms were clean, the showers had plenty of hot water and pressure (not always the norm in South America). The included breakfast was exceptional. A fruit plate, coffee, breads, fresh prepared juice, a different Ecuadorean breakfast, and eggs to order if desired. Also, the staff was welcoming, helpful and bilingual. The location was quiet yet within 2-4 blocks from parks, shopping, restaurants. If you’re ever in Cuenca I cannot recommend a better location to stay.

We had the most amazing time in Cuenca at this B&B. Sonia is the best host. She was so helpful with hints and recommandations for our stay. The hotel itself is breathtaking, it gives the impression to enter an oasis in the city. It is luminous, smells amazing (yes you read right) and the decor is extremely well though and classy, lots of antiquities, and warm. The cleanliness is impeccable and this was the only hotel during our 2 weeks trip that would clean our room and provide us with fresh towels everyday. Sonia is an elegant and adorable woman who makes us delicious and healthy breakfasts. We would come back FOR SURE and if there is availability, don't look further and choose this amazing B&B, you won't be disapointed.

We visit Cuenca a few times every year and this has become our go to hotel in El Centro. Cuenca has many little boutique hotels with historic architecture and personal service. Casa Montalvo is just a cut above the rest. Sonia‘s personal service is warm and welcoming and, even though this hotel is right in the heart of downtown, it is amazingly peaceful. And, the thing that really sets it apart is the little garden out back where you can sit and enjoy coffee or tea, read a book, or just contemplate life.

Casa Montalvo is a beautiful B&B, where you feel right at home. Sonia, the host, is a wonderful lady with exquisite taste. The home is a renovated colonial home. Each room is decorated with perfectly-preserved-antique furniture of the highest quality. The house is a retreat as well as a mini museum. It is difficult not to admire every piece of furniture and decor perfectly curated around the house. The rooms are comfortable and different parts of the home can be enjoyed by guests like the traditional colonial backyard and garden in the back of the house, which houses multiple flowers and fruit trees. The location of this B&B is very central and allows you to explore the city of Cuenca by foot or by requesting a taxi. Sonia offers a natural and delicious breakfast to jumpstart your day. When in Cuenca, we will certainly stay in this hotel again. It was simply wonderful!!

I stayed here for a couple of days. The room was small, but cosy and clean. Sonia is an exellent host - prepares simple but very nice breakfast and is very helpful with advice. The location is just fine, everything is within walking distance. If you're looking for a clean and cosy place to stay then I'd definitely recommend this place. I very much enjoyed it and would gladly return here if ever visiting Cuenca again.

No conocía de este hotel en Cuenca, y al ver los reviews me decidí por él. Es un hotel pequeño, lleno de detalles, el personal es fabuloso, y la ubicación es perfecta para caminar por el centro de Cuenca. Definitivamente me alojaré en Casa Montalvo la siguiente vez que visite Cuenca.
