What a great couple of nights we have just had at the Wild Boar. The hotel is set a short way out of Bowness and ideally a car is required to access the surrounding areas. It is set in its own grounds and there are pleasant walks, short or long, depending on what you require. There is adequate parking around the hotel although it does sprawl over several small locations. We were given a room at the back of the hotel and we carried our luggage up several flights of stairs. The room was very pleasant with a large king size plus bed, the wardrobe hanging space was a bit strange. The bathroom had a bath with a shower overhead and was fine for our needs. We ate in the hotel on both nights and the food was fine to good. The fish and chips on the first night was slightly overcooked but all other meals were fine, no complaints at all on the second night. Breakfast on both mornings was outstanding, plentiful selection and big portions. The bar area is very cosy with large leather seats and roaring fires serving their own brewed beer and a fine selection of wines and spirits. However the one consistent and pleasing aspect was the service. Every member of staff, in every role was polite and professional and we had some good laughs with them. I would not hesitate to stay again. Thank you

Anyone that likes the flavour of wood and fire will be in heaven here. Everything is cooked over the grill or prepared in the smokehouse outside. Smoke being my favourite flavour - i was in heaven. The hotel was immaculate , bedrooms very clean and the bar / restaurant still in xmas decor. They brew their own ales so we went straight to the bar to get started on the beer. The menus are great , there`s so much to choose from. Unfortunately our first choices were sold out after the new year rush but that couldn`t be helped. What we chose was really tasty. Wine was very well priced and plenty to choose from in all price ranges. Service was slow but it was a few days into the new year and staff were thin on the ground due to xmas working rotas.....understood. Main question "would we return" ? - Absolutely , its a nice place to escape , the prices are good , the food extremely comforting and apparently the smoked afternoon savoury teas are to die for. Plus i must get a tour of the smokehouse next visit. Thanks to all.

I had the pleasure of having the Afternoon Tea at the Wild Boar Estate and it was amazing. The decor is superb and very welcoming, especially the lovely open cooking hearth, which was a delight to be warmed by while enjoying one of the fine ales available. The food was both delicious and creative and left the two of us having nothing but compliments for all the eats on offer. I can also recommend the little beer shots or beer bat as it's actually called, a nice sample of what's available, all of which are very enjoyable. We will definitely be returning.

We’ve just visited for the festive afternoon tea for the second year now, loved the first visit so made sure we came again while visiting from newcastle. The bar is so lovely and festive with fires going and tasteful Christmas decorations everywhere, friendly and attentive staff and the afternoon tea was plentiful and absolutely delicious. We couldn’t eat it all so brought some cakes home, fantastic value at £35 per person with a choice of alcoholic drinks. A place we will definitely be returning to again on our next visit.

There are plenty of reasons to choose The Wild Boar estate when there are many choices in the area. It's secluded, but you are in the bustling towns within minutes. The rooms are very comfortable and have character. Probably one of the best options and breakfasts I have ever had. Own little brewery and the alternative afternoon tea was excellent, albeit savoury biased. I don't mind paying a bit extra for excellence, and in truth the service was that, so no qualms about paying the service charge. So overall we had a great couple of nights, and would recommend the hotel. I did have one niggle,my wife ordered the scallops as a starter, which came with black pudding, at £16, I thought a bit steep, however a tad disappointed when just one scallop was served. Of course I raised the point after eating but really too late to make amends. The menu should read scallop if only one is served. A very minor point, that didn't spoil our break, but not good value on that point. The breakfast though, WOW.

Booked a room and also a table in the restaurant Arrived just before check in and found hotel busy so had to park at rear car park had to go up and down a few stairs to get to reception which wasn’t ideal as my wife is struggling with a bad knee but it was manageable. Greeted at reception by a member of staff who was really polite and helpful we were offered a whiskey or a sherry for free if we wanted one Found the room to be very spacious although slightly dated it was very clean , bed was very spacious and comfortable. We had a table booked at the restaurant a two hour slot that we booked online , restaurant is amazing set out is awesome staff and service really good the food was absolutely out of this world highly recommended
