Travel Adviser Warning! My complaint to Wyndham properties was not the usual issues of cleanliness, coffee pot not working, heat and air conditioning not working, etc. My complaint dealt with personal safety of my wife and I while staying at a Super 8 in Crawfordsville, Indiana, November 26, 2023. We noticed the window in our room on the ground floor was open. Upon trying to lock it, we found that it would not lock. Quite possible the window was left open by someone who would sneak in to the room to sleep and leave early AM. We went to the front desk to advise employee of the situation. We were not offered a new room. My wife asked to have a dowel rod or similar. She was taken into the maintenance room and noticed a toilet plunger that might work to secure window by placing in window track. Wife unscrewed handle from toilet plunger and brought it back to room where she found it was too short to secure window. I asked to speak to manager and was told that he was not available and would call me at 8 AM in the morning. Attempted to sleep, and of course, was not able to sleep due to being anxious, scared and fearful for our safety. Imagine going to sleep in a hotel on the ground floor with a window that will not lock. In the morning while placing some things in the car. I noticed the hotel was next to a "XXX Topless Club". Now, imagine being in a hotel on the ground floor with a window that will not lock in such a neighborhood! Shortly after 8:00 A.M. I went to office to speak to manager. I told the employee about the non locking window and was told that he would call me tomorrow, of course, the phone call never came. I contacted Windham and told them my issue. They seemed to understand my concern for safety for my wife and me. I told the employee that we had video and audio of the window not locking inside the room, as well as outside the room. The outside video shows the "XXX Topless Club" Ad on the side of the building, which is seen while scanning the property to show it was a super 8. I was told that someone would contact me in 2 days following up. We received an email with a complaint #. We sent the video and audio associated with our complaint to Wyndham. Nothing but crickets since our original call to Wyndham. Quite by accident while reconciling some accounts, I noticed a credit the amount paid for room. No one has called to speak to us about our issue and how they were going to handle it. Generally speaking, many reputable companies upon finding they were at fault by providing an inferior product, service, etc. will refund what the customer spent, and will offer some gesture to retain the customer's loyalty. In this instance a free night stay at a higher end hotel then the super 8 chain would have been appropriate to compensate for a frightful night. I have had an experience nothing like this one and was reimbursed for my stay and given a free night's stay at a similar brand. From personal experience, the Choice
