We booked in a hurry because we needed somewhere to stay for the night at short notice. The staff were very friendly and helpful over the phone which reassured us. We had prepaid the room and collected the key in advance as there was no 24-hour reception and we were arriving late at night. The stairs leading to the room, were dingy, dark and grubby. The room itself was very old-fashioned and needed updating and decorating, window catches were broken. It was just about a barely adequate stay for the night because we had no choice. There was no information about checkout times in the room only a fire notice on the door and a very basic breakfast menu with no vegetarian options, which would not have suited us. The room smelled smoky. Not a good experience.

Having my suspicions, when entering the bar/reception, I asked to see the room before committing. "You've already paid and it's too late to cancel. So, look if you like, but you're not having a refund," was the reply. The bar was empty, dishevelled, sticky and looked nothing like the pictures on the website. On a positive note the bed linen and towels were clean. The bathroom, though old and tatty was also clean. The room was awful. It smelled dirty and stale. The furniture was sparse, dilapidated and overdue a trip to the tip. The 1970s wallpaper was peeling and shoddily painted over with poor emulsion. There were damp patches on the ceiling. The carpet was dirty and sticky, with unidentifiable stains around the bed. The communal corridors, landing and stairs to the first floor were smelly, littered, and had bags of dirty laundry in the walkways. There was a half consumed can of strong lager on the table by our room door. After eating out in what appeared to be a nice enough village, we lay awake for an hour contemplating the smell. We got up at midnight and left, feeling fleeced, for a bleary eyed three hour drive home. An absolutely awful place.

I went in there but it looked derilict and dirty. But there was nothing around so after I had left I went back only to find some old man/ barman blocking the door while I told him what I wanted- which was coffee. They said they only sell beer . I wanted something hot so asked for the menu. It was only pizza. £17 omg) I doubted how fresh that could be in that place and as I am diabetic, ate the sandwich in my bag. It was very cold in there. He asked me to leave even though at that time my blood sugar had dropped and I was shaking. Nasty people to deal with, filthy derilict cold place. An old building that probably hasn’t been updated since 1910. Disgusting place , disgusting attitude . Soon his body will be rotting there under the floorboards along with his predecessors. I’m sure the sheets won’t be as clean as the one in the picture.

Very friendly and helpful staff, clean and comfortable rooms, delicious food and a convenient location all added up to a very pleasant stay. We appreciated the way Paul, Tania and their team went out of their way to make sure we were happy and comfortable with everything! Highly recommended!

We stayed one night (mother and daughter) It’s an old pub/building, so don’t expect luxury, especially for the great price! Extremely warm welcome from Tania and the Landlord, the resident dog is a bonus too. Room was warm, clean, comfortable. Food in pub downstairs good, especially the pizza.

Nice people, nice bar. Closed early very very few customers. Rooms are tired, poor condition, beds uncomfortable and bathroom of low standard. Breakfast £7.50 - consists of : half a tomato grilled, one small sausage, one small hash brown, one rasher of bacon, tablespoon of beans, some chopped mushrooms (small portion) , one egg. Slice of toast, with condiments, small pot of tea. No cereal, no fruit juices or fruit or any other choice. You would get more value in a truck stop for less. Overall, avoid at all cost. Owner hates the village, and can not wait to leave.

Went to the Cranleigh Hotel for Sunday lunch with friends and family as heard great things about the new chef and the food on offer. Was not disappointed one bit. My starter was the squid and was the best I have taste anywhere and my main the salmon was cooked to perfection. Crunchy skin with soft meaty salmon flesh with a good selection of vegetables and a lovely sauce. The others in the party had the Sunday roasts which were also impressive in size and taste with loads of meat and a good helping of vegetables and sauces. I wasn't able to take part in deserts as was so full from my two courses but the others enjoyed the sticky toffee pudding and like myself rate the meal equal to or if not better than any available in the area and definitely at a more affordable price. Would definitely recommend a visit especially in the week as they have a very extensive well price menu. Something unusual for this area.

We went for lunch here as heard under new management it has greatly improved had a nice curry and a panini and the service was friendly. The only thing we would say is make more cosy sears in the bar area as the restaurant refurbished but not the bar
