Upon arrival the staff was very friendly and attentive, was able to do an early check in for the price of £15 which is great. However the woman with glasses did make a mistake of shouting my door number out loud (I work in hotels and you’re not supposed to do this you usually just have the room number on the card that’s holding the key card) so people in the corridor knew where was my room was, which made me a bit uneasy as a female solo traveller. When I entered the room there was a weird smell to it so I just turned the fan on and opened the window and it went. The bathroom sink was dirty and had dry used toothpaste sliding down the side and the right single bed had someone’s hair and a little brown spot on it. So I slept on the left. Beds are really comfortable, only problem rooms get really hot even with fan on and you can’t open window widely. Will stay again as it’s a cheap stay for one night. Easy commute, right outside Coventry pool meadow bus station.

We are here for my big day, the graduation ceremony in Coventry University for attaining my Masters in my home country, an associate with CU. The room is within proximity to my University, thanks for that and it makes the graduation process even easier as the gown and mortar hat was inside the Britannia Hotel. 🙏🏼 The one or things to comment about is the lack of air-conditioning machine provided to the guest rooms especially during this time, the summer. Others not much comment as the price of the room is priced economically for the common goods. Thank you Britannia

I'll start off with the positives. The location was ideal for anyone visiting Coventry, you're round the corner from the cathedrals and the city shopping area. The price is very good for a city hotel and the rooms were large and clean with the usual basics you'd expect from any hotel these days. The things that let the place down is the dated outside, it makes you fear the worse. The other issue is the numerous signs that tell you that abuse to staff won't be tolerated. That's a given but one sign behind reception is all that's needed, not on every floor and all over reception. It puts a downer on the place and gives it that rough image when it's in fact a really nice place to stay. The random need to check everyone's ID baffled me. They didn't make a record of it so there was no point really and didn't give of good vibe to the place. Overall, I'd stay there again because the negatives didn't ruin the actual experience of the place.

This hotel is part of a chain of which I had never heard of previously. Some write ups have been poor but I must speak as I find, and that is that the staff and well motivated, even if the hotel is a little run down. Built in the 70's, it has 70's architecture - Britain wasn't at its best then as far as design went. The reason for choosing the hotel was the location as i was visiting the Herbert Art Gallery and also the transport museum and Cathedral - all within walking distance. I believe the majority of guests are on coach tours. In fact, of you are a coach tour guest you get a special happy hour at the bar of two drinks for the price of one. Sadly, I didn't qualify. Notwithstanding, excellent food outside nearby. The buffet was limited. My room was very large with a balcony. The bed / mattress was very comfortable. One door was missing off the cupboard, but never mind. The bathroom was large and had a nice big bathtub. Good stay. I was even allowed to check in early, albeit for a fee. Staff were very friendly. Location was excellent and should I be visiting again I would certainly stay here.

Not a good experience. First room we were given had a bathroom but no bath or toilet, just sheets and paint where it should have been. Second had no cold water and a leak which soaked the bathroom floor from the shower. The bed was lumpy with springs coming through

Yes, it is very worn and dated but it does have a retro 70's charm and provides very good value. Reception was polite and professional but could have been more supportive. We had a issue as our hotel booking site had not paid the hotel. The receptionist ask us to phone them to solve the issue. At better hotels, the reception would have offered to do provide this service. A lack of training? The location is excellent being in the centre of the city, across from the bus station and the transport museum. The views of the ruins of the old in the background and new in the foreground among other ancient and contemporary buildings is wonderful from the rooms at the rear of the hotel are wonderful. The balcony that some of the rooms to the rear have would be a very pleasant place to relax in good weather. The beds are very large and reasonably comfortable with clean beading. The carpet of our room was new, and others were being replaced as we were there. The state of the decor was adequate and past ready for a make-over. However, for the price and location, it was acceptable. The breakfast, which was included, was a pleasant surprise. The buffet breakfast room had a was cosy feel, there was a good selection of cereals, preserved fruits and yogurt. The full English breakfast was very well prepared and of good quality ingredients. The tea and coffee were also of a good standard. Service was professional and efficient, clearly aiming to provide their clients with a very pleasant start to their day.
