The drive off of the cottage is absolutely lovely, however please note that you will lose service 5-10 mins away from the property. You can join the wifi when you arrive. Please note, that the only wifi available in Fort Valley is satellite, therefore it will be affected by any severe weather.You will have access to the full space except the shed which we use for storage. I cannot wait for you to explore this wonderful part of the world!While dogs are allowed at the property, the property is not fully enclosed therefore we do require them to be leashed. We also also ask that if a pet is left indoors by themselves, that they are kenneled in order to prevent any damage to the property while not under human supervision.Please also note that due to this being in a rural location the internet is extremely spotty especially at night. This is more of a remote stay and a perfect way for you to get away from the busy city and enjoy the peace and quiet of nature :)If you are coming during the winter, a 4WD is HIGHLY recommended. The road up to the house is stunning but also can feel windy for those who are not used to driving in the mountains, especially if conditions are icy. We always recommend that all guests PURCHASE TRIP INSURANCE in the event of a cancellation.GUEST RENTAL AGREEMENT, SECURITY HOLD (Which is not a security deposit), & ID VERIFICATION REQUIREDHi! We are your welcoming hosts and we look forward to hosting you. During snow, main roads and driveway are treated if snow is 4” or more. 4WD is recommended then.We are on a well, water is filtered and treated; however, we encourage you to bring your drinking water as tap water may occasionally have a light smell of minerals.Keep doors closed all the time to keep nature’s creatures out. Please also clean up crumbs, and do not leave any food outside. The house is surrounded by wildlife, do not tempt them by leaving food where it is accessible.This is a NO SMOKING, NO PARTY/EVENTS, and NO PETS in this mountain house. County ordinance imposes quiet time from 9pm to 6am. Escape to our comfortable and well appointed cottage in the mountains. This one bedroom one bath with additional loft is the perfect retreat. The spacious deck is ideal for sipping coffee in the morning, reading and napping in the afternoon and star gazing at night. The property sits on over 90 acres to explore and a hot tub to soak in after. There are beautiful hiking trails a few steps from the cottage and the famous Skyline Drive is just a 20 minute drive away. There are several beautiful wineries a few miles from the cottage. Enjoy the evenings by the fire pit (we have wood available for you). We also have a wood burning fire place for chilly nights and a gas grill for your convenience. The cottage has free wifi (Starlink!) and a smart TV. There are 2 towns close by for provisioning, shopping and meals out. We have a generator that will automatically turn on and power the entire cottage in case there is a power outage. Peace and quiet with all the comforts of home. Like us, you won’t want to leave. With 3 wooded acres, firepit, deck, books, games, toys, TV, and a work space, the cottage offers a peaceful respite and cheerful homebase to explore local attractions including skiing, hiking, caverns, golf, vineyards, and Shenandoah National Park. Dogs welcome. DETAILSJust 2 hours from Washington, D.C., our home offers comfortable furnishings and warm, cheerful décor. The small house is well designed, with multiple sleeping options (2 bedrooms, den, and living room) despite its intimate size of 700 square feet. You will have full private access to the entire property, including a spacious gravel parking area for multiple vehicles or an RV. Relax in the cozy living room and enjoy a family movie or game night. Prepare a meal in the fully equipped kitchen and share a picnic on the patio. Rest under the stars in the hammock or while roasting marshmallows around the firepit. Enjoy sunrise coffee on the deck with beautiful views and sounds of nature. Or stay snuggled in bed with plentiful pillows and covers, reading a favorite book in the warm lamp light. Children love to play or watch TV in the small den and explore the woods and yard. Remote workers enjoy the speedy internet, dedicated work space, and peace and quiet for focus.To one side of the property, you can see the driveway to our neighbor's cabin in the distance. To the other side, you can see a small A-frame. A few lights (or houses, in the winter), may be visible in the distance through the trees. It is a wonderfully tranquil and forested mountain community.Please note: - The cottage is on a gravel road at the top of the ridge. A front-wheel drive is recommended. During winter months, an all-wheel or 4-wheel drive is essential if conditions are at all icy or snowy.- Two steps lead to the front porch. Bedrooms and half bath are on the second floor, via a short but steep carpeted staircase with a firm handrail. A pullout couch bed and full bath are on the first floor.- Much of the property's 3 acres is on a steep wooded slope behind the house. There is still plenty of flat terrain on the ridgetop. You are also welcome to explore the slope if you don't mind the grade!- The cottage does not have a separate dining room. There are 2 bar stools and counter space in the kitchen, and 4 folding TV trays in the living room. The spacious sofa in the living room converts to a queen bed. Great for kids or small adults. Sound machine included.BATHROOM: Bathroom has all the necessities you need! Shampoos, conditioners, soaps, hairdryers.... you name it, it's here for you! There is an amazing spa like outdoor shower just off of the common area if you choose to be so much closer to nature and enjoy a peaceful shower outdoors! Yes, there is hot water! Outdoor shower is seasonal.GATHERING GROUNDS: At the common gathering area you will find an array of rocking chairs, comfy loveseat and chairs with cushions and pillows to rock the day away.The space is great for stargazing as there is no light pollution what so ever. YES!!!!!Thermostatically controlled heat and A/C Do you have amenities for children? (crib, high chair, etc.)No we do not have any items of those sorts for children. We are limited on storage space in the cottage and unfortunately at this time we do not offer items of that nature. If there is something specific you are looking for, please do not hesitate to ask. Can you swim in the pond? You can, but swim at your own risk however, we prefer you didn't. There are tree branches, limbs, etc., along with snapping turtles in the pond for its natural ecosystem. Is it safe for kids?Please note that while we have done our best to make the cottage safe for everyone, it may not be suitable for all young children. The property has a relaxing and peaceful pond just a short walk away from the cottage. The waters edge and forest has many entrances and exits. Please use your best judgement as parents.Is there hot water at the outside shower? Yes!!! How big is the space?approximately 1200 square feetIs there a grill?Yes. You will need to bring your own charcoal and lighter fluid. Pool: The pool is shared with the owner and you may see other guests as well during the hotter months. Please be respectful of others while using the pool.No jumpingNo splashing othersNo climbing on the sides of the pool. If seen, you will be asked to leave the pool area.No rough housing and abusing pool floats.If you put umbrellas up, put them down when you leave the pool area.No glass bottles. CLEAN YOUR TRASH WHEN YOU LEAVE THE POOL AREA. We do have an occasional storm in the warmer months. At times the electricity may blink or go out for a short amount of time. With this being said we have made provisions for outages to include drinking water and alternative toileting facilities. We generally DO NOT lose power, but please be advised that circumstances with nature are out of our control. We also do not refund if you show up for your booked stay and it rains.DISCLAIMER: Some bedding, décor, throw pillows, snacks, cold drink options, may differ from that in the photos as we launder and wash all linens between guests so those items are swapped out often and snacks we provide what is currently available in stock locally.
